Fulmer Discussion (Merged)

There is no real point. That record against Zook hasn't prevented Richt from winning two SEC titles in the last 4 years. Exactly when was the last time the the Big Orange Buddah clutched a trophy?

Sorry hat, but this gets old. Maybe someone will come along here in the next hour and get into the same ole argument for the 1000th time on this board. I'm not interested in it.

If you think Richt being 1-3 against Zook isn't relevant, then so be it. I don't really care that much..

I think you're just grumpy because Miami and Oklahoma lost this weekend.:p
It wasn't much fun. I'm trying to remember the last time all three lost on the same Saturday. I can't say I'm that sad about the 'Canes. That's a great cautionary tale as to what happens when you let a coach hang on too long.

Unless Illinois is somehow hidden on UGA's schedule, I can't think of anything less relevant Zook's record v. Richt.

Richt has to win a National title this year or he'll fall behind Fulmer's pace of winning one in his 6th year.
Ah yes, the last line of defense for the defenders of TCHFCATUTK. Great job he's done following up that National Championship with all those SEC titles and BCS appearances.

Glad to see everybody in midseason form.
Contrary to popular belief, I still think UT can have a very good season. A split of the UGA and LSU games would get us to 10 wins. I obviously overrated Arkansas. Alabama is also mediocre at best. Even I would be OK with 10-2.

Of the two, UGA looks more vulnerable. They have struggled more than us on offense. Special teams and defense has been a big key to their points.

If we learn to tackle on special teams, we have a good shot at them.

I'm not sure what UGA has got. They really haven't been tested yet. They did beat SC handily, but I don't think there's any way SC could have giftwrapped that one any better; giving up a safety and failing to score twice from inside the UGA 3 yard line.

People are salivating over Matt Stafford, but he is what he is . . . a true freshman QB about to be thrown to the wolves in the SEC. I think he has the ability to make a lot of plays right now, but he also is the same guy who threw 3 picks against SC and got away with it.

I would be willing to be satisfied with 9-3 this year. I would be surprised if we get to 10-2. I think this is a tough place since we don't have a great in-state recruiting base year in and year out. We do as well or better than any other school in the country with that problem yet I am not willing to concede that we should be happy without conference championships.

I saw some of their stats against UAB and they weren't that impressive. While they were up by about 20 points, they had about 100 passing and 70 or so running. Didn't see the final tally but not exactly David Green style numbers.

i agree that Fulmer has been disappointing some of the last few years. But this year the team is playing much better.

10-2 or even 11-1 is not out of the question. Florida and LSU are the hardest games on the schedule. UT could very well finish 10-2 this year and I wouldn't rule out beating LSU. I haven't been impressed with anyone else on the schedule, Bama, SC, Arkansas, etc. GA hasn't even settled on a QB.

I think they ended up around 125 passing and 170 rushing. They basically outlasted UAB.

That's the thing about UGA . . . IMO they have the ability and depth to line up in the I and run it all day long, but Richt seems to be married to the FSU style offense.

This is completely random, but as I watch MNF, I can't help but wish we had a John Henderson or a Deon Grant on our team this year.

We'll see how Stafford turns out. Until I see Richt maintain his early pace, I'm not ready to crown him as the great coach. He had 4 years of David Green followed by a year of Shockley who played quite a bit prior to starting. We had Peyton for 4 years followed by Tee.

The right QB makes a huge difference in taking the next step to the top of the conference.

Which was Fulmer's fault? The ridiculous no call on the late hit out of bounds early in the game, the ridiculous spot at the end, or the roughing the passer against Mapu that took 7 points off the board?

Announcers and apparently officials are dazzled by Meyer's girlish looks.
Please don't insinuate that the refs cause us to lose the game. Please

Both of the losses to Meyer were so close they could have went either way. Neither team dominated the other.

So if you dont get dominated but lose that is ok?????? OMG

Fulmer said last night that he spoke with Cut before the second half and it was made clear that they needed to eat up as much clock as possible and that the run needed to be established. Fulmer pulled a Majors.... "Go into a shell and try to sit on a lead".

To all the Fulmerites what I want to know is when is a loss or a losing season the Head Coaches fault?

Truman used to say that the buck stops here!!!!

I continue to hear about execution, questionable play calling, no answer for Tebo, etc....... Is Fulmer responsible for any of this? If so which parts?

He recruited the players on his team with assistance from his staff.... He hired Atkins....... He hired Cut...... He retained Chavis.

I think tha tChavey is a good d coordinator and the defense held Fla to 21 points which is pretty good.

The offensive skill positions have looked somewhat better but not great. The oline has not been impressed.

If other teams (FLa or LSU or Auburn) have more talent, then there are problems with recruiting.....So where does the blame go ultimately????????

This is not so much a comment on Fulmer as it is on the concept of a "good loss" that seems to be percolating around the board. Close losses are still losses. The Vol nation does not need to turn into a bunch of Vandy clones who can only talk about how close we played 'em and hope to knock off a good team once every decade or so. UT football is better than that and its fans (that goes for everyone) should expect more. Hopefully, the Vols will not have to worry about any more losses. Personally, I think this team is capable of handling UGA if they can get a lead and play to win the entire 4 quarters. LSU will be tougher but not impossible. No more near misses.

Go VOLS!

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum and have enjoyed keeping up with the comments since the Fla game. I appreciate the opportunity to chime in.

This was probably the most disappointing loss for me since the LSU comeback in the SEC Champ game a few years ago. Game could have and should have been in hand. We are obviously not good at playing with a lead and need go get more of a killer instinct. I went to the game and told my brother in the 3rd qtr that we needed to break their will with one more score and obviously we didn't do it.

I learned that our O line needs a lot of work. I thought Ainge did well considering he was running for his life a good bit of the time. We have to find a running game. When was the last time a team dominated in this league that couldn't pound the football on the ground? WRs look pretty good to me, but they aren't going to be effective unless we have a RB who can move the ball on the ground (and an O-line to get it done). I hope the O-line is running and doing a lot of drills at practice this week!

I have faith in the coaches and would like to wait until the end of the year before we jump the gun. Cut should get his guys in over the next couple of years. But I certainly don't want to be left behind in terms of talent, which I feel like may be happening over the last few years--to UGA, Fla, LSU, Auburn.

I look forward to conversing on this forum in the future. In the meantime, cheers.

So true. So true. We're winners. We win. We have reputations to with up hold.

Fulmer's job status is fine. We lost by 1 at home to a Top 5 team. We were driving for the game winning score and the O-Line didn't pick up a blitz and it killed the drive. That is in no way Fulmer's fault. If we wouldn't have lost 14 yds. on first down, we would more than likely won the ball game and no one would be talking about this. Ask any slightly educated person and they will tell you Fulmer isn't going anywhere.
