Fulmer is still the best name.

it probably won't happen,if the big names they go after say no,there is a chance, but the people involved in his firing, will not hire him and admit they made a mistake

WHAT THE H*** IS THIS???? IS THE WHOLE damn FULMER FAMILY ON HERE? NO damn WAY IN H*** ARE WE GOING TO ALLOW THAT FB BACK AT UT!!EXCEPT TO F`IN CHEER!!!!HE is why we are so aweful now! He couldn`t coach his azz out of a wet paper sack!! We had an NFL-talent team from recruiting. I`ll give him that. But the SEC was preschool compared to what it is now. He cannot compete with the SEC elite coaches. He made that evident. That`s why he was fired. We WILL NOT ALLOW IT!! NAY! NEIN! H*** NO!!!

OP was the same person who said Dooley needs more time and he would not be fired this year.

Fulmer recruits were around for more than just Kiffin's year. And they did jack all.

If you think UT wasn't headed downhill before Phil left, you're as delusional as the Dooley supporters.

Yeah, and they were coached by Dooley.

UT clearly had a bad year (made worse by Hambone) when Fulmer was fired. But that year would have been better than any year under Dooley without Hambone. UT had a better recruiting class lined up before Kiffin's arrival with a better college QB on it. Kiffin ran off a plethora of talent already wearing orange including an NFL QB.

Kiffin put the program in the dumpster and pissed kerosene on it. Not Phil.

Time to man up and admit you were wrong.

Now, bring on Gruden.

Maybe he would work for free, considering he was paid for years after he was fired. Hey, I'm in!

Fulmer is IN folks... AD Hart knows that his firing was a FAILURE on the former AD part.

He gave hints today in his presser..

1) Successful HC experience is a must for the new HC
2) No headhunting firm
3) Need for stability in the AD, HC, and UT Leadership
4) People already in mind.. and he gave the smokescreen answer "We may have to wait till the season is over to talk to some guys."

Derek Dooley Fired: Phil Fulmer Is Tennessee's Best Move over Jon Gruden | Bleacher Report

Its a REAL possibility folks...
Then get ready for the biggest division in the UT fan base that you have ever seen. Think that the fanbase was divided over Dooley? just wait....

This is getting ridiculous. There is no way in h*** we are going to allow Fulmer,.Kiffin,Smart,Petrino,Leavitt, etc, etc coach UT next season! No WAY!! We have an outstanding AD in Hart. I have 100%confidence in him. We WILL GET GRUDEN!!! GO VOLS!

Unless you're stalking him and reporting that he's coming home from the grocery store, you're completely wrong.

Or he could suck like 2008.

What makes you think this? You have no proof. I have history. He never had back to back bad years. Anytime he had a down yeAr he responded with 9+ win seasons. Quit acting like you all know 2000% he would suck. Because you don't. And saying he is responsible is beyond retarded. It's been 4 years and two coaches couldn't fix the problem. If KIFFIN and Dooley aren't blaming Phil for their shortcomings, why should you?

What makes you think this could possibly be true?

Once again, no one knows this will happen and no one knows it won't happen. To answer the question, look at the main thing an AD would look at:Coaching Record and tendencies. He never had back to back down years. Every 3 years we were in the conference championship. Take away those two 5 win seasons, when's the last time he finished a season with 6/7 wins? I'm discounting the losing seasons, but history shows he never allowed a team to have back to back losing years. On the other side, he did get lazy and complacent and it showed. Now, I go back to my main point. No one knows for sure what he could do after a 4 year break. Bill Snyder is making the case for every pro Phil guy. That's hard for the anti Phil's to put up with. I love Phil. He was my coach growing up so much. I thought I was so lucky to literally have the same coach from birth to high school graduation. He is a true Vol Patriot. As much as I would love to see him come back and "Snyder" Tennessee, I have to be objective.

What makes you think after being gone 4 years that Fulmer suddenly will be able to start hanging with Saban and Spurrier again?

And I have no proof? Only if you're blind. The program was already on a decline, in case you forgot 2005. YOU have no proof Fulmer would have done a whole lot better had he been given 2009.

Stop acting like he's not a big contributor to this mess. Just because some idiot hired 2 stupid coaches after he let go Fulmer doesn't mean Fulmer didn't need to go.

If the level of competition in the B12 matched the SEC, you might have a point.

And the fact you actually use a phrase like "Vol Patriot" shows it's a very good thing you have nothing to do with the decision.

He has everything we need to get the program back to being competitive and implementing a coaching search, and subsequent transition, upon his retirement.

He ran the program in the ground before, why would he be the savior now? He was never anything but a good recruiter. He couldn't out coach the good coaches and never developed talent very well. When he stopped recruiting the program went to crap. His years without Cutt weren't very good either. Fulmer would not turn this program back around. He would get owned by Saban, Miles, Spurrier, just as before, Sumlin, maybe Mushchamp, whoever Arkansas hires, and probably even James Franklin.

Well think of it from a business point for a second. If you're offering a coach a millions $$$$ you want his 100% loyalty to your institution. Now most in media and most of the rest of the country thought the CPF firing was a terrible mistake. Given that add in how unstable our program has been since his termination. Add those two factors hiring Fulmer anywhere would be a gamble. Would any school want to put themselves into a Kiffen type situation? His name always pop's up when we need a coach. Is it realistic that would coach her again? Probably not, but his name does always come up.

Then again he does run a business and has done some tv commentary. Maybe they just can't get together on staff and/ or $$$$. Kidda like Gruden just hasn't gotten the right offer yet. Just a thought.:zeitung_lesen:

I agree that when you look at it a certain way .... it could seem logical. It won't happen. He hasn't gotten a job anywere though. What does that say? Is his buyout over? If he was hired and it wasn't, hey at least we could get rid of one buyout! Woo hoo!

No one knows what will happen, especially me. The one thing I am afraid of is I am going to hear about a coach that we do not know about getting ready to have a press conference.

I will say that there is a good article on here about what the coach at Baylor has done with Houston and Baylor. Worth a look!

I agree with you 100%. I am not sure why some people choose to not remember how bad it was in the end of Fulmer's era.

For players in 2012-13, I don't think he can pull the kind of recruits we need early on. He was a great recruiter after winning a lot of games, but most recruits today would not be blown away by him like some of the other big name coaches.

What happened after 2005? 9-4 and 10-4. Thanks for backing up the point I made earlier: Fulmer always rebounded nicely in the win column after a down year.

I'm not advocating hiring him back. Just stating a case. Yes it's easier to get to the top in the Big 12. My point is that a coach who stepped out of the game for a while comes back and instantly turns out a top 10 team makes the case for Pro Phil guys. And if you are gonna hate on me for calling Phil a Vol Patriot then you truly could care less of Vol tradition and Pride. This guy gave his entire life to the Vols and is continually trashed on and blamed for the last 4 years. You must be a young guy

which included absolute stompings by our biggest rivals. And that bama team in 2007 wasn't even close to the level it is now. Fulmer competed in an SEC where he needed to beat one team to win it all. Whole different animal now
