Fulmer is still the best name.

wow, i am amazed at the naivete of people in the world. al golden? fulmer? cutcliffe? tennessee needs someone who can win the cupcake games by 50, win 66% of the 50-50 games, and compete with the big boys and maybe knock one off...ASAP....while putting butts in the bleachers. this program is on the verge of death. the home schedule next year is pathetic, and the road schedule is brutal. golden fulmer or cutcliffe will not excite a fan base, and those guys simply will not beat teams with a winning record....

while vandy just whipped us, i will never forget that vandy beat us here in 2005.

Actually from top to bottom, the Big XII is very strong this year. Granted, their teams are not as talented and would not win head to head matchups against SEC schools, but there isn't the dropoff from top to bottom that there is in our conference. Kansas is the only real dud this year, while in terms of the league, we have Kentucky, Auburn, Arky, Mizzou, and sadly us.

The rest of the Big XII is pretty evenly matched, which makes Snyder's job all the more impressive.

Yeah, and they were coached by Dooley.

UT clearly had a bad year (made worse by Hambone) when Fulmer was fired. But that year would have been better than any year under Dooley without Hambone. UT had a better recruiting class lined up before Kiffin's arrival with a better college QB on it. Kiffin ran off a plethora of talent already wearing orange including an NFL QB.

Kiffin put the program in the dumpster and pissed kerosene on it. Not Phil.

Time to man up and admit you were wrong.

Now, bring on Gruden.

No, because he had trash recruits to work with for his first two years. Hence why we had so many true freshmen and sophomores starting. Do you not remember that?

Highest number in the SEC.

Keep the worthless pumpkin away.

I'm not advocating hiring him back. Just stating a case. Yes it's easier to get to the top in the Big 12. My point is that a coach who stepped out of the game for a while comes back and instantly turns out a top 10 team makes the case for Pro Phil guys. And if you are gonna hate on me for calling Phil a Vol Patriot then you truly could care less of Vol tradition and Pride. This guy gave his entire life to the Vols and is continually trashed on and blamed for the last 4 years. You must be a young guy

There's the True Fan card.

KSU didn't "instantly" turn into a Top 10 team either, his first 2 years back were 6-6 and 7-6.

If the staff looked somthing like this I could go for it.

Hc. Fulmer
Oc. Kippy Brown
Wr. Tee Martin (Head coach in waiting)
RB. Jay Graham
DC. John chavis.
Lb. Kevin Steel (Dc in waiting)
DL. Chuck Smith
OL. Sam Pitman
DB. someone

I agree with you 100%. I am not sure why some people choose to not remember how bad it was in the end of Fulmer's era.

I am not sure why some people choose to only to remember the bad and not the good he did for the program. There are 2 sides to this. Now not saying bring CPF back, but he gave us a NC in 98' and when was the one before that 51'. So I can see how we were contending for a NC every year. At what point did you all get so spoiled Fulmer era!!!!

Fulmer is the best name....As the closest coach to look like a pumpkin in Orange.

Don't need him as a retread at UT

He has everything we need to get the program back to being competitive and implementing a coaching search, and subsequent transition, upon his retirement.

We don't have enough room on campus for extra VOL Rocks.....If we get Fulmer back, we'd need at least 3 rocks to paint instead of one.:salute:

Why hasn't he coached since he left Tennessee? Didn't he say he wasn't finished yet?

Fulmer quote

"Somebody that's committed to winning championships and being the best that they can be, with a chance to compete in a conference that's nationally recognized. I'm not going to go walk into a door somewhere that you have no chance to be successful."

Sounds a lot like what Gruden says and to add to it neither Gruden or Fulmer have coached since 2008.

I don't believe Gruden will coach in college and none of the other names are that exciting. Maybe he realizes that he got lazy and will have that fire again.

God help you good sir.

Fellow Vol Fans: I posted this once.. I will post it again.
The one thing that I shoud have added is this will only work if Fulmer is truly... In his words.."Fired Up, Focused, and Prepared"......

IMHO- I think the best thing that Dave Hart could do for the program and this fan base is to consider bringing Fulmer back.. Stability is what we need....And WINS are what we need to bring this divided fan base back together for VolNation.

1. Hire Fulmer back immediately with these caviats.

2. Give him only a 3 year contract and set his salary at 2Mil per year. 3yrs only and not one day more...

2. Throw the checkbook at the Greatest Assistant Coaches in America.

3. Instruct Fulmer to mold the next Head Coach i.e learning the traditions - then mentor these assistants with the thought process of "The Best Assistant Becomes The Next Head Coach in Year 4". And make this PUBLIC.. So that there are no misunderstandings.

Please note: I am not a Fulmerite- let's get that out of the way. I just love our football program... I love Tennessee win or lose.

Say what you want, Fulmer became complacent. We all know that. 4 years off and if he is re-energized, who in their right mind in Tennessee would disagree with this. No One.. I mean No One.. since General Neyland, NO ONE has been more successful coaching our Volunteer Football Team. No One!!.. If there has been... Show me the facts... If not.. Then let's give the man the chance... If Neyland were alive today, would anybody turn him down? I know Phil is not Neyland, but he IS the second best coach in Volunteer Football history...

Renegade:

Was is not Fulmer that recruited the Dual Threat QB named Taj Boyd?

Was it not Kiffin that said no thank you?

Did Taj Boyd not go to Clemson?

Wonder how that is working out for the Sweeney Team.

Check your facts...

The definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over again and expect different results...Hiring Fulmer would be insanity!

Not one other major college or pro program in the country has seen fit to believe CPF has anything left in the tank to hire him. He left the UT program in horrible shape, did not do it on purpose, he just did not have it any longer. If you want to drive the program into further obscurity and cellar dwelling in the SEC East, of course by all means bring him back.

I preach it everday to my staff..

Insanity? Really?

Would you have been happy if we went 8-4 or 7-5 this year? Of course you would have been?

Insanity, is not doing the right thing for the University Football Program and let us right this wrong....

Sometimes, honest to God I think winning the NC was the worst thing to ever happen to our program. Because now everyone expects it.. EVERY YEAR!!... This is truly an Irrational comment on your part. IMO
