Fulmer is still the best name.

No but you can't guarantee he'll turn it around either. You say history, yeah he never had back to back down years but he was starting a trend of every 2-3 years it was bad and that certainly bucked his previous history where he never had a "down" year.

That's where we differ; I think it would be a huge mistake to go backwards, and I saw the trend that Fulmer was going to keep going down. Would he have been better than Dooley? Yes, but I still think he would still be gone by now anyway had we not canned him in 2008. People are knee jerking a bit because Dooley has been such a disaster, but Fulmer would have been judged in a different circumstance.

Nice post. I'm not arguing anything. It's just hard for me to to think Fulmer woulda let all hell break loose. To many people it sounds like 08 was only a start for back to back to back losing seasons. In 16/17 years he fudged up on one hire and it cost him his job. I just don't see how we could have been this bad with him 4 years later. I mean in the last 4 years we have what, 23 wins? That's not even 6 average. You think Fulmer would have averaged 6 wins or less since 08. It may just be me but he never got that "sh!t is about to hit the fan, start working on a solution" talk from Hamilton. Instead it was here's the pink slip. I for one wish he wouldn't have been fired. In 08, that is. I truly believe he should have gotten 09 to be his fate decider. Not because of KIFFIN, but because he had a lot invested in the school and so did we. He should have gotten 09 to be his UT Career season.

Do you all think Bama should of brought back Gene Stallings after Shula left?

No. But firing him was the reason they had Mike Dubose, Dennis Franchoine, Mike Price, and Mike Shula, and Joe Kines... before they got Saban.

Plus Gene was 73 years old at the time.

But thank-you so much for your contribution to this thread.

Glad my loyalty is with a university and not with a coach. I bet some Penn State fans are wishing they could go back in time to get rid of you know who.

He has everything we need to get the program back to being competitive and implementing a coaching search, and subsequent transition, upon his retirement.

I agree....there are 6 million ways he could help fund the new coach search.

So now Fulmer is a pedophile child rapist too?

I bet your loyalty is to yourself more than anything else.

My point, dumb ass, is that had you been a PSU fan, your stupid butt would have been out defending a guy that covered up for a child molester. And since you can't read very well, my loyalty is with the university, not the head coach. Hope ya join back on the live chat again Saturday night big boy. We got more fun for ya. :)

I know what your point was idiot, I spelled it out for everyone to read. You compared a Tennessee legend hall of famer to a child shower rapist. You have NO LOYALTY whatsoever to Tennessee. You are an Alabama troll.

So take your stupid unicorn pooping rainbow analogies back to your Alabama meth lab.

No. No he is not. Ever. In any world. Ever.

Wow, you have the worst "like" to "post" average I have ever seen. I can see why. Because we are talking about this world, Tennessee football. Go buy another deck of pikachu cards. Maybe you can find a real 50HP coach in there.

We hired Phil Fulmer. Do you think people would go crazy or would it be accepted with some kind of decency?

Not goin happen, as much as I liked him the game has passed him by. He was a good guy, good recruiter, bled orange, but much of his sucess was built upon down years for other SEC teams.

i cant say it enough ! NEVER SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIRED !!!. the fans got lazy , the fans expectations were unrealistic . ( thanks coach fulmer ). he got us to a point where 5an 7 an 8 an 4 was not accepted (thanks coach fulmer). now we wish we were 8 an 4 . (thanks mike hamilton). some of you either are not old enough to remember or choose to be stubborn. This is the S.E.C. fulmer or any other coach will not win every year . its a cyclical thing but keep what was working . just imagine the staff he would put together plus the passion he would into it . to prove it was not time to let him go . unless gruden comes ? i want fulmer and the staff he could put together . his recruiting was almost always in the top 10 an top 5. tennessee is not fla ga texas lsu usc ala. those schools do not have to leave their state to recruit . fulmer got players from everywhere ..wake up and give this man credit .

Seriously, I was first in line on the train to get Phillip Fulmer out as the Vols coach...looking back on it, we had it pretty damn good! I would do anything for one of those bad Fulmer years to come back, it would feel like a successful season. We couldn't handle 8-9 wins as our "down years"...We had a guy who LOVED the program and WON. Now we are in search of both. It sure is a sad state and I'm just as guilty as most of you are about packing his bags for him. I know none of you want him back, but I think most of you might want to realize your greatest moments as a Vols fan all included him at the helm. Go ahead and bash away, but we already had the coach we're looking for and we all couldn't wait to get rid of him.

As much as we love Fulmer, he's the one who started the downward spiral for UT.
