Fulmer is still the best name.

I know this, if we had kept Fulmer it wouldn't have been any worse than it has been in the last 4 years. Plus, we wouldn't have had the Kiffin and Dooley trainwrecks. And we would have kept some degree of stability, obviously now we have none. Hindsight is 20/20 I guess, I respect him and would support him again.

And if we had kept Fulmer he would have been fired by now anyway.

Kansas and UK are not able to compete for titles no matter who coaches them. Fulmer has said he wanted to coach somewhere the team could compete for titles.

Numerous jobs where he could have done so opened up since he was fired. Yet no interest in him came from those schools.

Could Fulmer have taken another HC somewhere if he just wanted to coach? I think he could have without a doubt. Like alot of coaches, he has a list of things he would want in a job. He was also making a large monthly sum from UT booting him out. It's not like he needed to find work. I would love that home run hire just as much as the next guy. Is that guy on the board? With the current coaches names being mentioned, I just don't see it. Don't get me wrong I would support anyone Hart hires. Part of me thinks with where we are today, a 4-5 year deal with Fulmer(seeing that home run is not likely with where we are) where he could get us back to at least winning 8-10 games a year sets us back up to be appealing to the next guy. Once again, if Gundy, Patterson, Petersen, or Pelini want the job, I think they would be better hires. I just don't know that we are that attractive right now. Sometimes choosing to stop the bleeding is the best decision you can make.

I believe UT is such a good job that there is someone other than the ones being mentioned who really wants to come to UT. We need someone with some fire to excite the fanbase, but also he needs to be an x and o guy especially on defense to compete in the SEC.

I'm gone for today. I'm going to watch Gus Malzahn and the AR State Redwolves play for the Sun Belt title against MTSU. Should be a great game. Hey, how about Malzahn? he is not a defense guy, but it might be exciting.

I think most remember what happened in that time frame. What most don't remember is the two year stretch General Neyland had in 1947 and 1948. In 47' he went 5-5 overall and 2-3 in conference play. In 48' he went 4-4-2 overall and 2-3-1 in conference play. Two years after that he went on to win back to back NCs.

I cared for Andy Kozar in his last days and we talked a lot of football, which wasn't that far after the Fulmer firing. Although he liked and supported Kiffin, he referred to those dark years under Neyland. He said the fans were actually protesting on Gay St. And wanted a new coach, LOL. I swear he said that. Then he went on to say how he would have never gotten to experience playing on a NC team had the power people listen to the spoiled fans. He was adament that he was behind Kiffin and felt he was a fabulous young coach. However, he should have never coached at UT because we should have shown Fulmer the loyalty he had shown us. But I'm sure Kozar wouldn't know....

being sentimental is great but it's just not reality. I was at most of the games Fulmer coached in the 90's and would love to have returned to those days (well, except for the UF performances). It wasn't going to happen. Recruiting and coaching were both falling off. It was also becoming evident that the coaching in the SEC was being upgraded and UT was being left behind (look at 07 bama for evidence).

The follow-up hires may not have gotten it done but that shouldn't cloud the fact that his performance warranted being replaced. Of course they were also working out of a large hole left by Fulmer

I'm 37 years old and the only time I have EVER called in on the radio was the Sunday morning after they fired Fulmer, I was so mad at how they did him, every program goes through rebuilding years at times and that's a fact, even 98 no one had a any idea that we would be in the title hunt after losing manning the year before, how many coaches with the amount of years he coach can compare to his?

I think Malzahn is a good football coach and the players seem to buy into what he does. I would like to see a little bit more from him. Alot of people forget just a few years ago he was coaching in HS. He has done very well so far. His team at Arkansas State was loaded with talent as they took alot of the "problem kids" this year.

Like I said earlier, you don't know that. If you do, that means you have a crystal ball. That makes you the biggest Negavol of all time to let us fall this far knowing everything.

I would interview Fulmer whether I intended to hire him or not. He really took this program to the top in the 90's. He could offer some insight on the direction to go in terms of uniting the fans and boosters again.

He probably could offer some insight since he did a great job of dividing them.

If I hear that stupid crap again, I am going to puke. He lost to Wyoming, because he just got fired by the University that he gave money, blood, and sweat too...so guess what he would not have lost if he was not fired. Can we just recognize that? Both Vandy and UK were better then UK that year...at TN easily beat them. Should have just fired Clawson.

Who is your choice?

Is Fulmer really a worse name than Strong, Fedora, Golden, or Jones? If we get to that level, PLEASE just re-hire Fulmer. We could probably bring back Chavis and help solidify the Defense. There is no gurantee that the lower-tier names would be able to assemble as good as staff as Fulmer could with Chavis.

Fulmer
Chaney
Chavis
Pittman
Graham
Hinshaw?
Tee Martin

Would be a nice base for a coaching staff.

Let's be honest--we as a fanbase got greedy and wanted Fulmer gone too quickly. Now we are reaping the fruits of that hasty decision. I have no doubt that if Fulmer was not fired before Wyoming that we win that game and wind up going to a bowl game for a possible winning season, setting up for the next year. Instead, because of our lack of patience and sense of entitlement, we are now scraping by and just hoping to beat teams like Vandy and Kentucky. I'll admit I was wrong in wanting Fulmer gone. It's time to make amends and give the man a chance to go out on top rather than being shamefully fired mid-season like he was.

I have a lot of motivation too but I don't think I could out coach Saban.

At this point people are looking for a guaranteed win.

Who is your choice?

No one is guaranteed wins in any sport. They fired Fulmer because he didn't win the SEC championship or a NC.

That's why he was fired period.

2001 1st in the east
2003 tied for 1st in east
2004 1st in the east
2007 1st in the east

He made it to the show but didn't win.

So who is your guy that is going to win it all.

Maybe that's why not many successful coaches want the job. Not only do you have to have a great winning record but you have to win the big game too.

Fulmer 152-52

But the worst part to me is now everyone just wants to be competitive(from several former players and many of the fans). Heck we are so far down now 8-4, 9-3, 10-2
is acceptable. Fulmer gave you that, but it wasn't good enough.

He won our Conference division title 4 times in his last 8 years.

I would love to watch my Vols play today in the SEC championship game. Win or lose I just wish they were there. you were almost Guaranteed it with Fulmer.

Fulmer was fired because he got lazy. Plain and simple. When he lost cutcliffe, and sanders didnt work out, he should have went out and got the best OC in the country. But instead he hired dave clawson and that was his downfall. Sanders was a bad pick and clawson was awful. I think fulmer just got lazy. He wasnt recruiting as well either.
But if we cant get gruden, and we can get some great assistants, fulmer might not be a bad option.
He at least gives his all for TN and loves tn. More than i can say for hart.

I'm not sure this may not be a bad idea.He loves the university the program and I think he has been away long enough to bring a fire and drive back to the team, fans.
