Is one of the determining reasons, for the conclusion that you do not want Fulmer back, that he might surpass Neyland's win total?

He had two losings seasons in a row, and then "retired."

my fault...I skimmed over the post and the dates and didnt realize he left out the yrs btw...thought he had all them and automatically put the losing seasons together as that coach....but I still say that Fulmer will not get it done...there is a reason no one has hired him...I would love to see him as our AD....he is Orange thru and thru and would have our best interests as a football team

sure, our stadium is named after neyland let some of his records stand in history of the program. phil doesn't deserve to beat neyland's record unless he wins at minimum 2 more national titles and 2 sec titles.

Did he miss on Tajh Boyd? I don't think so. Boyd committed to Fulmer. Wonder how that has worked out for Clemson. C'mon...Seriously?

I believe Tajh Boyd was asked to look elsewhere by Kiff. He felt Boyd wasn't a great fit in a pro-style offense. I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure this was the case.

An article on Volquest this morning talks about the search being back to square one and has a picture of Bo Pelini from Nebraska. I sure hope Dave Hart isn't that desperate.

I would love PF to come back for a couple of years. Keep Chaney and go get chavis. Just two years and he wouldn't turn us down like everyone else is.

In today's age, Fulmer would be nothing better than a JC coach. No one would clamor to play for him from a recruiting stand point. He was getting out-coached BADLY in his last years. He would get murdered in present times.

I disagree I think his offense sucked in 2008. If I remember correctly Chavis had our defense in the top 5 that year. He needed a good offensive coordinator. IF he could bring Chief and keep Graham and Chaney then im all for it. .... If Fedor turns us down

I talked to Bobby Scott last night. He is very unhappy with the state of our program and how things are being handled. I had never really given much thought to the Fulmer talk until he brought it up in our conversation. He has not/was not ever a big Fulmer pusher, so, him saying that got my attention. He said Fulmer would take the job, he loves the university, he would recruit well, and he has fire in him after the last 4 years. Bobby said we should give him a 3-4 year deal and money to get a quality staff and let him right the program and go out a hero.
Not sure I argue with him at this point.

The fans didn't "_quickly" turn against Fulmer; we were bad, or close to it, for several years. He was coach for 17 years--burned out.
If not Petrino, Davis or fedora--and they are all problematic, hire the Chief: He brings a lot more to the table than some little-known coach, which is what we're looking at now.

Ask your wife or mother how they would feel about Petrino coming into her living room and guaranteeing her that he would take care of her son and teach him to become a proper young man over the next 3-5 years. That is the problem I see with Petrino's future. He will/should have a tough time recruiting because their will be zero trust in him.

We fans got him fired.. We can be the ones that bring him back! LETS DO THIS!! Let's be apart of that Tennessee magic! Lets get our coach back!!!!!!!!!

He got himself fired. UT does not need Fulmer back as coach?

I would imagine the haters on Fulmer are under the age of 19 and 8 years old when Fulmer was at his best. I can understand their hesitation. Let me ask you this, do any of you believe in second chances fuel a fire and drive? I'm not advocating for Phil but I have to think he has a drive inside of him now and a LOVE for TN that nobody else out there has. Plus he has the ability to gather a superstar staff. Just saying, think about things before you bash the guy.

Hart cannot continue his coaching search debacle. Bring back someone that loves this University, this football program and that is a proven winner. Phil Fulmer is the best option left and would probably have an assistant coaching staff made up of Jay Graham, Tee Martin, Dan Brooks, Steve Caldwell and possibly John Chavis. Let Chaney stay as OC. Hart could get Fulmer for $ 2 to $3 M a year which would allow him to pay Chavis what it would take to get him back. Our "glory" days were when Fulmer and many of the coaches listed were running this program. There is no reason they cannot get us back there again. If anyone thinks Fedora or any of the other coaches still on the board would do a better job , you're kidding yourself. Just Do It!!

He got lazy and complacent on and off the field and turned this program into the embarrassment it is today.

He made lousy hires in Clawson and Sanders. He recruited guys that had the populace of Knoxville frightened for their well-being.

He was SOOOO loyal to this University that was nothing but "bricks and mortar" to him that he ensured a 6 million dollar parachute and an 8 win is enough contract so he could solidify his legacy and pass Neyland without having to put the work in to actually earn it.

Fulmer got himself fired and he will always need this program more than the program will ever need him.

You're name tells me all I need to know....

I would say Fulmer wouldn't make the same bad hire as he did in '08. I don't think he should have been let go in the first place but if there is a better hire out there then I say get them.
