Fulmer Picking Up Steam/Schools looking at Fulmer?(merged)

I hope he takes the job so we can move all the Fulmer threads to the Around the NCAA forum :crossfingers:

Fulmer going to the no huddle spread? Come on. Malzahn wouldn't have worked for Fulmer either. Money was never an issue in Malzahn being ignored.

I'm looking at in hindsight
Fumer got a coach (Clawful) who took us to the absolute depths of offensive outputs
While passing on a OC in Malhzon, that's now undeafted and has Auburn as one of the top teams in the country

A young coach is still a big gamble though, especially when your paying $2 or 3 million a year.

At this point Minnesota is desperate. They can't afford to get a nobody and fail again. I think they want a coach that has some degree of recognition. Fulmer is still probably a long shot for the job.

Agree. A young potential up and comer is a high risk with potential for high reward whereas a Fulmer/Tuberville type coach is low risk with most likely average reward but slim chance of high reward.

I was only pointing out one reason why Kiffin and Dooley were able to be considered by big time programs such as TN and USC rather than having to build a program at a school such as MN.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Malzahn wasn't really a hot commodity when Fulmer hired Clawson. He was just a recent High School head coach who had been given a job as a package deal for a top QB recruit at the time, correct?

I believe his offense at TU had just led the nation in offense.

Who was the OC who AR hired in order to get the QB recruit which later transferred to USC? Wasn't that MalZahn? Was that before his TU stint?

Yes and yes.

OK, I wasn't sure of the timing when he was at AR. That's why I led my post with, "Correct me if I'm wrong." If he was at TU when Fulmer hired Clawson, then Fulmer definately missed on MalZahn versus Clawson. It may have been best for MalZahn that he missed though.

If Fulmer actually somehow gets this job, guess who he would be coaching against in his first game?

None other than Lane Kiffin. That would definitely be a fun one to watch.

I guess everyone knows who you would be going for.
FIGHT ON SGM!!:victory:

This is why no one respects your opinions. The mere idea of someone claiming that in 2007 that UT was a better team than Florida ruins any credibility whatsoever.

You don't lose to teams 59-20 if you are better than them.

Are you saying USCe is better than Alabama this year?

I highlight a sentence from above to suggest it is actually another group's opinions which are lightly regarded....

VegasVol has been proven right as rain on the vast majority of his posts. The other side - not so much. 1979 SEC Champs and such.

Didn't realize SC beat bama by 39 points and hung 59 on them.

UT lost to two .500 teams pretty convincingly. We put up 13 points against a horrible UF defense. We needed voodoo to beat our last three opponents all of whom are the historic doormats of the SEC. We just weren't all that good. The luck caught up with us the next season.

Mitch Mustain. There were other highly rated players as well from Springdale HS.

Nutt promised that Malzahn could run the offense.

He reneged and said that they needed to run the ball all the time and that Mustain and the Springdale boys (including a stud WR) needed to keep their mouths shut and stop complaining.

They were promised in recruiting that they would have PT as freshmen. Not the opportunity to compete for PT, but PT.

They complained to Frank Broyles who is an Arkansas legend and was working as AD, and it turned into a civil war in the AD.

Very sad situation. Would have been avoided if lies were avoided.

Hung 35 on them and beat them by two touchdowns.

According to GoF logic, when we lost to the NC Auburn Tigers in 2004 by 10, and were tied in second half it was an Epic Beatdown.

Alabama lost by two TDs to a team that lost to KY. Saban's career is OVER.

Saban lost by two TDs with the #1 team in the nation to a team whom KY beat. He finally ran out of luck.

It's over, Rock! Saban is FINISHED.*

* according to GoF nonsense.

there were 3 NFL running backs on that team and Malzahn had to be forced to run the ball instead of letting a freshman QB sling it? Maybe he's not the genius he's made out to be

Let me know when he takes a top 5 team and loses to Memphis.

Yeah, that's it. He's still controlling his destiny for the SEC Championship and has a pretty good chance to play for the BCS Championship. And even if this were a poor season, that would be fine. He just had a monster one.

But the late season pastings we put on AL, KY, SC and Vandy prove it all out. We were clearly the better team. Embarrassing drubbings happen to the better team all the time.

That is why there was such a controversy.

On the Broyles/Malzahn side there was a group who said that the run game could open up great things in the passing game.

On the Nutt side they said he is the HC and it is his call and he should not be hampered by what he told some high school coach and their whining players to get them to Fayetteville. There was a ton of resentment against their parents for going to Broyles and that Broyles (whose brand took a hit with some in Arkansas the way Andy Griffith has with the Obamacare commercials) took the meetings.

It was a team with stud NFL RBs, but they did not need the RB to play QB to run effectively.

I think ole Gus has proven that it is his ability and not anything else that leads to effective offenses.

He has several different styles based on personnel.

He's on the way down, obviously. He basically took the #1 team in the nation and lost to South Carolina (who lost to KY). South Carolina has no history. It took them 100 years to win a bowl game. They are the bottom, and Spurrier, as we know, is washed up.

That's certainly in the same ballpark.

Oh, and Malzahn happens to be a running coach. His numbers bear that out.
