Fulmer Picking Up Steam/Schools looking at Fulmer?(merged)

I hear Fulmer is building up steam to be the new coach at FLORIDA after the Urban Legend resigns again this year

Who gets the hit for the 2007?

Monterio Hardesty. If he really had wanted in the football game then he would have let Fulmer know it. Instead his sulking on the sideline caused the team to quit and John Chavis to never understand that DJ Hall was going to line up in the slot and run a 10-15 yard hitch.

How dare you think Phil fulmer deserves any blame for that loss.

And geniuses like kptvol kept telling us we would be dramatically "improved" and that winning SEC titles would be just around the corner once Fulmer was gone. Still waiting....

No. Most realized it would take awhile to repair the wreckage. Both Kiffin and Dooley said so from get-go, as well.

But yeah, way to be impatient after a year and a half. It's not like the last guy got ten years.

It's been nearly 2 years, and we're looking at another 2 more. You can't say that most expected to be where we are.

I'd say winning the SEC within 4 years of firing Phil would be a pretty great success. It'll probably take a bit longer. Everyone should have known this year would be brutal. It would have been this way with Phil, Lane, or Derek.

Although I am glad Fulmer is gone from UT, I have no disrespect for him whatsoever. I for one wish him well in whatever jobs he pursues other than UT coach.

I read the thread title and thought Fulmer was rolling down a hill....

I dont understand all the Fulmer hate. Yes we had some bad seasons at a place where that is unacceptable, but he loved and gave all for this university not to mention a national championship. A school like Minnesota is not getting a Bob Stoops or a Jon Gruden. They arent even getting a Derrick Dooley. They would be damn lucky to get a Phil Fulmer, and quite frankly I think he could make a big difference there. Best of luck to him.

He failed horrifically with a much easier rebuilding job at UT. He'd commit suicide after a year at Minnesota.

even halfway respectable program would be to put together a really strong staff and then stay totally out of the way--be a figurehead. But he wouldn't put together a crack staff, and he wouldn't stay out of the way. These veteran guys get old, burn out and lose it. Look at fsu under bowden the last several years--not very good. Fulmer isn't very sharp either.

I hope Minnesota is stupid enough to hire him to finally exterminate the possibility of him becoming UT's AD. Sadly, they aren't that retarded.

I wouldn't wish that on anyone, except Alabama or Florida. It would be good to get him as far away from TN as possible; let him go up north way away from us. Anyone would be stupid to hire him, and as currents events display, no one is that stupid.

I know there are some that think former coach Fulmer wouldn't succeed anywhere, but for those think he has some life left in him...

How do you think he would do at the University of South Florida? Wouldn't have to travel to recruit and he'd be in the Big East. I think he'd do well there (ducks and runs for cover :) )

I know the job is taken, just saying what if it weren't?

What makes you think he could recruit with the Big 3 in that state?

Just an over abundance of talent in that state. Even the left overs are enough to field a pretty strong and competitive team(for Big East that is). Although then it comes down to coaching...

But there's more than just Miami, FSU, and Florida competing for those prospects. Also, based on his last few classes he evaluates talent about as well as Larry King evaluates potential wives.

Oh I know, and believe me, I feel that his eye for talent is not that keen. I just think that he could convince those instate kids that wanted to stay close to home to go and play for him.

He expressed interest in their opening. They did not reciprocate.

With most of those coming during one of Alabama's worst runs in the modern era.

Did you consider that it was because of Fulmer that teams like Bama and Georgia had those bad runs in the 90's. Fulmer beat an undefeated Bama team in 96, an SEC champion Bama team in 99 (pretty soundly) and consistently recruited top prospects away from the Tide. I'm not defending his record against the Tide with Saban and 07-08 was pitiful but I think he beat up on some good Gene Stalling Bama teams which is something Major was unable to do and for that I think Tennessee fans should be greatful.
