Fulmer Replacement

I don't know if tey are overrated or not, but their preseason hype definitely seems to be coming out of nowhere.
Outside of the upset of SC in '03, name the last time Cal beat a good team. Off topic, if anyone likes boxing, Arturo Gatti and Carlos Baldomir are waging a war on HBO right now.

They don't play a whole lot of good teams because of their conference schedule. They have some good young WRs, Lynch is a stud at RB(as is his backup). I also think they have a stud at CB and another at DT. If we can shut Lynch down and put some points on the board(cue Arian Foster), then I think we can win.

The beating Texas Tech laid on them in the Holiday Bowl two years ago, coupled with their crying about being excluded from the BCS, told me all I need to know about their program. They're a wannabe. Nothing more, nothing less.

Reminds me of 2003 Tennessee. Could've been in the BCS, played the no respect card, then got slapped by Clemson.

Cal will be good in 2006, probably 10 wins or so.

Does that mean that teams like Clemson and Maryland aren't wannabes? Or are we the wannabe?
Maryland is certainly a wannabe. Clemson hasn't really been good in 15 years. We were a half from playing for the National Championship in '01. We've won a National Championship within the last 10 years. We are where teams like Maryland, Clemson, and Cal hope to get someday.

If we are in such a good position, playing for NCs(or being close), then why all the hate for the coach that is leading the team?

Being better than Maryland, Clemson, and Cal isn't what I consider good position.

UT could potentially play 5 top ten teams next season in Cal, FL, LSU, GA, and maybe Ark. if they do make a run for the west. That could really hurt Fulmer's chances of finishing better then 8-5.

Cal will not be a Top 10 team at the end of the season.

Of the first 4 you mentioned, 3 are in Neyland. That makes me a little more optimistic. The schedule is still quite brutal.

I'm waiting to see how good Arkansas is really going to be. I keep hearing how improved they could potentially be, but they were REALLY bad last year.

And if UGA ends up in the top 10 with the QB problems they are having, Mark Richt is a genius.

Ask LSU how bad Arkansas was at the end of the year. They barely survived against the Hogs.

4 of Arkansas's losses were by 4 points or less, so, kind of deceiving.

And agreed 100% on the Richt point.

They have 20 returning starters and the no. 1 or 2 recruited QB in Mustain next season. I know Nutt has got a lot of criticism of late, but I think he's an underated coach. I don't think he's had this kind of an athlete to work with at QB. I think they will be good, and upset either LSU or Auburn.

They will lose at least 3 games.

@ Tennessee, @ USC I think are most likely.

They have Oregon at home, Arizona State at home

They have more talent than WASU and Arizona, which are their toughest remaining road games. UCLA will be down down down in 2006.

Who do you see as their 3rd (and even 4th) loss? I'm not arguing, just interested.

Arizona will be the most improved team in a major conference. They will do no better than a split with Oregon and Arizona State. I could easily see them losing 4 or 5 games.

Jeez, we see their team in different lights. :) I agree about Arizona, they will break some hearts this year in the PAC 10. Oregon lost a lot in terms of skill positions (Clemens, Whitehead, Williams). They do have the 2nd best coach in their conference, though.

Cal has owned ASU the last times they've played.

I can also see your side, because they average almost 2 home losses the last 4 seasons. Should be interesting to see how they do.

Do you feel Lynch and Forsett are overrated? Such a potent rushing attack seems quite dangerous.

Lynch is very, very good. I haven't seen Forsett enough to form a strong opinion.

Its been a while since arizona had a quality football team. i met some long suffering arizona fans when I lived out there. I don't know if there are enough athletes to develop a top notch football program in AZ. All the Cal players tend to stay in state and play for USC or UCLA and Arizona State recruits pretty heavily in Phoenix. New Mexico is a football wasteland. Its going to be hard to bring players out of state to Tucson in my opinion.

Agreed with that. 1998 was a dream season for them, but I see this team shaping up very well. Mike Stoops has all the tools to be successful, and they have 17 starters returning. They have begun to make noise on the recruiting trail and keeping in-state talent away from ASU (as much as they can). Arizona could win 7 games this year, which for them is very very good (as you know).
