Fulmer Replacement

im not happy with the teams performance in recent years, but why are we attacking a coach who brought us a real nc. it has been 8 years yes i know, but ncs dont grow on trees. there are 100 some odd other schools trying to win to.
lets give him a break and let it unfold as it will, instead of guessing who is next and so on.
and if he does step down or get fired, u can take this to the bank. we will hire a ut alum. always will.
that is all i would want coaching this team. not some guy who has had stops at miami or the nfl. i want someone to take pride in this team and the university.
Good post CBC.

I feel that Cut will be next.It will be UT's way of paying him back for Ole Miss.

I say bring in Manning to coach O and Al Wilson to coach D under him.

By that logic, we need to fire Bruce Pearl and hire Tyrone Beaman. That's right, Pat Summit isn't a UT grad either. Send her packing and bring in Kelly Jolley.

I'm pretty sure he is talking about the football team hiring alumni.
OK. Name the UT alums currently qualified to run a top 20 program.

Really? What degrees from UT did Dickey and Battle hold?

That would be brilliant logic. A guy does such a good job at a second tier SEC schools that he's given a pink slip, so we should make him our head coach.

That's the kind of logic that resulted in Oklahoma hiring John Blake and Alabama hiring Mike Dubose. Given how well those choices worked out, I agree with you. We shouldn't look at competence, we should simply ask to see a candidate's diploma.

However it did work out well for UF. :devilsmoke:

Didn't say it was a good plan just what I saw happening.

I understand what you were saying. I wasn't attributing that ridiculous idea to you.

4 or 5 bowl games..but I was referring to Spurrier
I figured you were, given UF football didn't really exist until he arrived.

well, it's worked out pretty well for us too...at least up until recently...

as for who or why a person would be hired to replace CPF.....if he is fired, i truly don't think where the next guy went to school will have anything to do with it...MH has already set a precedent with BP that he will hire the best candidate, not necssarily the best UT Alum candidte....if they guy has ties to UT, great, if not, fine, bottom line is that should not and will not have any bearing on who may replace CPF....

Maybe but taking a shot w/ CBP and the bball team is different than "taking a shot" w/ the fball coach. Even if BP failed it really would not have shocked, or even bothered, many Vol fans. (we have to thank Dickey for that feeling) MH really had nothing to lose and everything to gain.

and you don't think the same will be true if we suck so bad this season that it forces him to fire CPF?

the only difference is the expectation level of the bball and fball teams. If we suck so bad again this season, that it requires mh to fire cpf, at that point, there isn't anything to lose...

And by taking a shot, you are correct given where BP came from. I doubt there would be as many questions surrounding the football coach replacement. That guy will probably be very well known, with a hefty resume that should at least give everyone some confidence that we have a coach that has already proven his worth and expectations would be that he would be able to fix things around here.

No I don't think it's even in the same ballpark. Like it or not, UT fball has always been bigger than bball. Taking a shot on bball and fball are 2 completely different ideas. There will always be something to lose w/ fball (and now bball). UT's history dictates that. Filling 100,000 seats should be harder than 25,000.

i say replace him with hatvol, volinarizona as the o.c.
cant lose with those geniuses.
I'll take that as a no regarding my question about how many UT grads are qualified to be the head coach at a Top 20 program.
