What makes you think that if Fulmer was fired that we won't just move Chavis or Cut to HC and replace the coordinator instead of trying to bring in a Davis, Gruden, Petrino(loaded contract), Rodriguez(loaded contract), or Tedford(distance)?
1. Jon Gruden will leave the NFL to come coach at UT at exactly the same time Johnny Majors is named AD.(hvwarrior58 @ Jul 22 said:You may have already answered this question hat, but I'm too lazy to check. I don't think I've ever said UT would pursue any of those guys. Would they? Probably at least a couple of them. I can't think of any circumstance where I would want Mini-Fulmer or Chavis to be the head coach. There are probably 50 coaches I would interview before I would talk to either of them.(hvwarrior58 @ Jul 22 said:That works for me. That leads me to my next question. Since you think MH would pursue these coaches, what makes you think that any of them would come to UT? Petrino and Rodriguez have contracts that are huge, Tedford would have to move across the country and has a good contract, Gruden has the pension. What if Davis isn't comfortable here or doesn't feel like getting back into the NCAA? We would be stuck with 2 options: A)being in an NC State situation, interviewing any coach that happens to be in east Tennessee and going into our plan C type coaches or B)being stuck with Chavis or Cut as the HC. Would you rather have one of our coordinators as our HC?

That was a case of Skip Bertman going with his gut. LSU had plenty of people interested. TCHFCATUTK isn't the most popular guys with his peers. I don't think his dismissal would scare anyone off. A good portion of coaches think if TCHFCATUTK can win here, anyone can.(kptvol @ Jul 22 said:I thought the same of LSU, but I wouldn't be too thrilled if we ended up with Les Miles. Also, firing the winningest head coach might not make us super-popular with prospective coaches, either.
I have no problem with that. If UT has a successful season, there's no reason to discuss TCHFCATUTK's job status.(hvwarrior58 @ Jul 22 said:Either way, I want a coach that can win a national title. Outside of a handful(most of which I don't see giving us more than a passing glance) I don't see many available that have proven that they can do that. We have a coach already that has shown that. Maybe his best days are past, or maybe he was just in a trough. We will see this year. Then I will make my decision.
If our standards have fallen to the point where 8 wins in a 12 game regular season is considered good, the program is broken beyond repair.(hvwarrior58 @ Jul 22 said:But a "successful season" is different to each person. Some see that, after last year, an 8 win year is good. Some say 9 and others say 10 with our talent.
I'll stick with something I've said many times. If we can't beat Cal, we're going to lose 5 or 6 games. They are overrated to an epic degree.(hvwarrior58 @ Jul 22 said:We have plenty of games that we could lose. LSU, UF, Cal, UGA, USC(Spurrier), Bama and Arky are tossups. A split of the first 4 would be nice and we should beat 2 of the last 3, but it won't be easy. We just have to win the other 5, which won't be easy. Air Force's offense isn't one that you play against much. Marshall will be coming after an emotional UF game. Memphis likes to play us tough. Kentucky has some good players and has given us fits in the past few years. Vandy shown last year that it can be done. That would give us 9 wins and a chance at a 10th, maybe 11th.
