Johnny has forgiven Phil.....he holds no ill will over the stabbing. And actually would like to get in touch with him again.

I agree that they were both Tennessee coaches and should be recognized for the good they did. The problem for me is the accusations of back stabbing and there is nothing to prove that it happened. It's just sour grapes on Majors part, IMO. Everyone has their opinions of what happened or didn't. It's all opinions and shouldn't be expressed as truths. I think Majors sealed his own doom with his actions prior to and at the time.

I guess my problem with it is the Fulmer fans who are so bitter about how CPF was fired when Majors firing was MUCH MUCH more controversial when looking at the 2 situations objectively.

Johnny lost 3 games. Monumental games I admit, but still only 3 games. The '92 team finished 9-3.

1989 11-1
1990 9-2-2
1991 9-3
1992 5-3 (4 games by CPF)

2 SEC Championships 89, 90

0-4 vs Bama
2-0-1 vs Auburn
1-1 vs Florida (92 game by CPF)
2-1 in Bowls (93 HOF Bowl by CPF)

Compare that record to CPF last 4 yrs

2005 5-6
2006 9-3
2007 10-4
2008 5-7

Sec east champs 2007

1-3 vs Bama
0-4 vs Florida
2-2 vs UGA
1-2 vs LSU

Phil had the chance to make the hire to establish his future after Cut left, but instead chose Dave Clawson.

He strayed from what made him successful - all of his previous coordinators were promoted from within - he should have known better IMO.

Regardless it is easy to see that in hindsight Hamilton made the wrong choice. And we are still suffering the result of that bad decision, but for the first time in a long time I am genuinely optimistic & excited about the future of Tennessee Football.

Go Vols! Go Butch!

With Majors and Fulmer back at UT visiting....things are looking up. Proud that Butch sees the need for this and former players visiting. All in time....we will be back. Go Vols!

I absolutely think this was a great day for the Vols. Butch just keeps laying a solid foundation to build on.

Love that Phil said Butch had bought in to the tradition of Tennessee. Glad to have Phil back around.

Thought this was a funny misspelling. I copied this quote from the article. The quote came from Phil.

"I had the opportunity to speak to the kids and tried to reiterate a little bit of that and what they represent, the great payers and things that have been here that been so really special to this place."

If u don't love Phillip Fulmer u don't love UT. That man is for sure 100% all Vol. Really glad to see Butch and Fulmer have a relationship. GO VOLS!

You can love the man and his accomplishments and still believe he was no longer the right man for the job as coach. It's not an either/or situation. The reason we are where we are now is the blunderings of Mike Hamilton. Fulmer had stagnated as a coach and was no longer the man to take us to the top. Maybe he could have kept going with winning seasons, big maybe, but we still would have been a runner-up team. I want to find us a coach who can make us champions, and not settle for always being an also-ran. If you don't love championships, you don't bleed orange.

If Hammy had pulled the trigger 3 years earlier, maybe UT wouldn't have lost so much of its luster and appeal to draw better candidates. As things turned out, we settled for Kiffin, then Dooley. If Hammy had known how to negotiate contracts, we wouldn't have been stuck with so many costly buyouts, then maybe the AD would have had some money. Hamilton is the single worst thing that has ever happenned to UT football.

Interestingly, Lane tried to build a relationship with Phil, but he never allowed it to happen. Obviously, Phil aint too high on the boy wonder.
Lane brought Johnny to practice as well. Looks like he was trying to do the same with both.

Also interesting is the fact that some of the players in that room were committed to play for Phil I think. Jacques, Cory Miller?, Walls? I bet that was pretty cool after all those guys have been through.

Great to see Butch getting it done. I expect improvement as this year progresses. We struck gold with this guy IMO.

Finally, the New Era is official. Let there be no doubt about that. CBJ may never pull off a championship but he's already accomplished a major achievement, something we needed, and something that will help us reach our goals.

Bravo CBJ and CPF! Like the mythical phoenix we are now free and unfettered to rise from the ashes, born completely anew, the ashes of our destruction respectfully scattered to the four winds. No forgetting where we from, or disrespect, just forward movement.

Feels great! :hi::salute: :toast:

Misleading title, I thought he was comin back to coach....

Got excited for a second, I'm ready to win the east every 1 out of 2 years again.

Oh well, I guess ill just have to deal with 5-7 seasons some more.
Sounds like a Debbie downer. I bet you're the kind of person that if you were to win the lottery, you'd cry, b####, and moan about having to pay taxes on it.
