Fulmer to ETSU?

Don't think so. I was for Phil leaving in 2008. I thought he should have left earlier.
I this this is a great situation for Phil and ETSU.
He would be a rock star. He can still coach and he can raise money.

It would be a great opportunity for the kids with their level of talent to play for a NC and HOF coach. Phil would knock it out of the park recruiting there.

I am ready to buy me an ETSU cap and some tickets.

I can't believe what i'm reading here. Why the hell would anybody in their right mind want Fulmer to help ETSU get a football program started. As I recall Fulmers lazy self was the one that pretty much started UT's downfall after winning a NC. After that what did he do????. Absotuley nothing.

1.) name recognition
2.) solid recruiter
3.) knows the area and lives in the area
4.) excellent fundraiser
5.) HOF HC, would be successful at FCS level
6.) I don't understand all the hate for Phil..he's not at UT anymore so why do people feel the need to continue to bash him?

an interesting side note, Dr. Noland, the new ETSU president, was one vote away from becoming the UT president

Another side note, Mike Smith HC of the Falcons was once the HC at ETSU.

Sony Smith who brought Auburn BB to prominence later HC at ETSU had some good teams under him

In 1969 ETSU won the Grantland Rice Bowl beating the Terry Bradshaw lead team.

There is some tradition to tap into

Sounds like some kinda six degrees of Kevin Bacon thing here.

I would think they would start back in.the dome, as bad as it is, unless boosters are willing to put out a lot of money. You are talking a bunch.of money to build a new stadium.

ETSU has been shelling out some money for athletic facilities the last 5 years or so. The golf center is one of the best in the country. They've built a new soccer, softball, and baseball stadiums in that time frame as well.

I never cared much about ETSU football when it was played in the Dome. If they build an outdoor stadium I may attend some games (as long as they don't interfere with TN games).

I doubt Fulmer would come to coach though.

PS. You're better than Krispy Kreme jokes, Gramps.

I love Fulmer, love what he did for the VOLS. Didn't want him fired. I wish him well. I don't know why anyone would argue unless they fear that if he goes there, he might start winning. Might prove them wrong?

I disagree....this is a perfect situation for him...he gets to stay in the area, he would go down a legend at both UT and ETSU, and he wouldn't be under any pressure. With the talent he can recruit at a FCS school, he would get them winning early on.

Time will tell.

I feel that Fulmer's arrogance would preclude him from seriously considering ETSU as head coach.

That's about the level he is suited for without Cutcliffe or Chavis though.

I know Mike Smith played at ETSU. Hadn't heard he was the coach at some point.

Mike Smith played linebacker at ETSU he was never head coach.

Sonny Smith was coach at ETSU for 2 years and really didn't do anything great. 30-23.

I am not sure Fulmer would ever coach at ETSU but I could see him doing for ETSU what Vince Dooley is doing for Kennesaw State in getting their football program off the ground.
Lend his name to the effort, raise money, offer advice etc.
They are both legends in thier states with lots of connections.

Why does every thread that mentions Fulmer bring out the haters? I think posting things about the man's weight says more about the poster than it does Coach Fulmer. And he is a Vol legend - what have YOU done?

ETSU may work for Phil. There is a Krispy Kreme not far from the campus.

Phil and Krispy Kreme? Do the two have a connection to one another? Hmm. I don't think I've EVER heard ANYONE EVER mention Phil and Krispy Kreme in the same sentence. Mind blown.
