Fulmer to ETSU?

Why does every thread that mentions Fulmer bring out the haters? I think posting things about the man's weight says more about the poster than it does Coach Fulmer. And he is a Vol legend - what have YOU done?

Iv'e not said a damn thing about his weight. And further more I didnt say I hated him. And what has my family done? For starters my family is the holders of 8 sets of season tickets and try to manage a donation each year. We watched Tenn. football go from the highest point to the lowest point with him as coach. He won a NC and then was just along for the paycheck. Now look what a shape that the football program is in. We are expecting our coach and staff to turn things around and I believe he will. Yes I was born in Tenn and always lived here. Am I totally off base? Don't think so!!!. Hell yeah I care.

He is best friends with the old coach at ETSU. The players in the area are getting better every year I think he would be the best one for pull of the job. IMO

or they can just hire the Falcons head coach. lol

Phil Fulmer "GAVE HIS ALL FOR TENNESSEE" and I will root for him in whatever he decides to do with the rest of his life. He has always been a CLASS ACT and we would have been better off not to let him go. I am 100% behind Coach Jones and also 100% behind Coach Fulmer!! Only Tennessee coach thatwas better for Tennessee was THE GENERAL. And I guarantee the General would be proud of Coach Fulmer also!! GO BIG ORANGE!!!

I would like it if fulmer would come coach our offensive line and be in on recruiting. That will never happen tho. So I say he should go coach ETSU and I hope he does with a lot of success! ! He did a lot for UT even after 98. So people should stop hating on him! Time just caught up to him. It happens to every coach..

No..we had to have a young, brash, coach. How did that work out again? When you hit 50, the perception is all skills are gone.

Evidently, Phil has no sense of who he is or his accomplishments. Won a NC, has a top 10 SEC coaching record, and is a HOF member. "Helping" ETSU would be fine; but not in a HC capacity. Why demean an outstanding legacy? As each UT coaching hire fizzles, Phil looks better & better. I would not mess with that. Additionally, Phil's assistants were prominent in his successes.

I must have missed the part in the article where he has to give his national championship ring back and resign from the HOF if he takes a lower-level job.

Did you miss that last 4 years of UT football? The lowest point has been WITHOUT him as a coach, not with him.

Listen, im just saying that the man gave up and didn't keep plugging along to continue to try to stay the best. Fulmer was with out a doubt one of the best coaches at UT ever. Iv'e not missed the last four years of football thank you, im just saying that when UT was on top why did the program start a downward spiral. Phil is no doubt a good person and I wish him the best at what ever he pursues. Im going to let this go now and hope you all don't hate me. Im sorry. Likes please!!

Gave up?? I year removed from playing in the SECG. He had a couple bad years and we were so unforgiving, that we forgot 152-52 NC etc. and hired pretty boy. But hey, he was young.

Come on VF, enough of that ageist mantra. Pretty boy has come and gone, the world keeps on turning and everyone gets a year older, even PF in his retirement.

an interesting side note, Dr. Noland, the new ETSU president, was one vote away from becoming the UT president

He could not have been any worse than our dear old Bugger-Picker! He would probably have gotten a better Athletic Director than our "Roll Tide" Dave Hart.

President Noland has stated that they would build a new stadium that they will not be in the mini-dome

How would/will they build a multi-million dollar stadium? Where are the "DEEP" pockets that it would take to finance it? If Stanton was able to "nuke" the program so easily without much negative feedback or even strong protests, what does that say about the concern, loyalty, and support for a future program? It is strongly suggestive that the future for ETSU FB would be like the past, ie., it would sink, but next time with a "large" debt overhang. Even "lowly" Austin Peay has a FB program, so If Noland is going to seriously pursue ETSU FB 2.0, PF would give the school some instant credibility, and it would be a good, appropriate, "niche" for him, beyond the glare and pressure of the "big time." But, PF isn't getting any younger and ETSU would have to act very soon if they are serious about reinstating football and if they might be interested in PF. And, to gauge if PF would be seriously interested, any more than making a few phone calls or contacts on ETSU's behalf.

I would think they would start back in.the dome, as bad as it is, unless boosters are willing to put out a lot of money. You are talking a bunch.of money to build a new stadium.

Instead of that stupid "Mini-Dome," they should make a deal to play home games at Science Hill.

Yeah, yeah, Fulmer was fat and lazy and the worst coach UT ever had. I've never heard that line before. So if you buy a ticket, you get to run down a good man and great coach. But knock yourself out - you can't change what happened in '98, try as you might.

Hey SR, I did not start it. More crappy posts about time passing him by and that is b.s.

They can not change it, but according to the anti-Fulmer crowd, it was luck. Everything he accomplished was luck, it had nothing to do with the fact he is a great coach.

Haha, the "right opportunity/team committed to winning" for Fulmer went from Notre Dame, to South Florida, to Kentucky, to East Tennessee State. And people still think he's turning jobs down?

Literally no one on this board except for you cares about age. Nick Saban is 61 and we'd all take him in a second.
