Fulmer to ETSU?

Mike Smith played linebacker at ETSU he was never head coach.

Sonny Smith was coach at ETSU for 2 years and really didn't do anything great. 30-23.

Your right sorry for the Mike Smith info, I had HCs on the brain. As to Sonny I thought he did a great job really elevated the program from where it was. Auburn must have thought so also to hire him. He did a good job at AU for many years.

That's how it started with Bill Curry @ Ga. St. I believe he was originally hired or volunteered only to lead the committee set up by the university to explore the pros/cons of starting a football program. But I remember when it happened and everyone knew that Curry would be the logical choice to lead the team if it was ultimately decided that they would start one.

As an aside, I don't think Bill Curry ever for one second thought that becoming the coach of Ga. St. would somehow tarnish his reputation/career. Quite the opposite -- I think it shows that he LOVES THE GAME OF FOOTBALL above all else. I think it shows he wanted to do something outside the box. I think at some point these guys make enough money that for them to take a job like Ga St., in Bill Curry's case, or ETSU, in Fulmer's case, shows that they simply love the game and want to be a part of it. If this actually happens (and seeing is believing so I'm not holding my breath), folks who question Fulmer's motives need to get a life. I think the game of college football is much better with Fulmer in it and if he wants one last hoorah @ 62 years of age and is willing to build a football team that will really make a difference to this small community, then I say more power to him. :good!:

I like your train of thought. However, I feel Fulmer's ego is too big to take a lower teir job like building an FCS team from scratch.

Don't get me wrong, I was/am a Fulmer supporter. I would love for him to come build ETSU. Personally I think it would add to his legacy, not necessarily in Ws and Ls because that will be a tough. If he were able to get it rolling and somewhat competitive would be a major accomplishment. I just don't see him doing more than helping with the fundraising aspect.

PF's ego almost certainly is smaller now, post-U.T. If he wants to get 200 wins or close to it and stay in this end of the state, which he apparently likes, ETSU would seem to be a fit. Since he already is in the HOF, the wins and losses wouldn't matter much and helping start/build a program would generate a lot of respect for him, even among those (except the most hardened) who wanted him to be replaced at UT for various reasons.

He killed one program with his laziness, might as well murder this one before it ever gets going

Evidently, Phil has no sense of who he is or his accomplishments. Won a NC, has a top 10 SEC coaching record, and is a HOF member. "Helping" ETSU would be fine; but not in a HC capacity. Why demean an outstanding legacy? As each UT coaching hire fizzles, Phil looks better & better. I would not mess with that. Additionally, Phil's assistants were prominent in his successes.

The first part of this statement is often used with the second part and they have nothing to do with each other. I don't care if we go through 10 more coaches, CPF's tenure here will be his and his alone. He stands as the 2nd greatest coach at UT until someone passes him. However, he is the past. Get over it. I think a program like ETSU would be a great fit for CPF. He can coach, the stakes are not as high, he can develop players instead of having to have them compete day one, etc. etc. There is a lot of upside to his returning to truly build a PROGRAM from the ground up. Who knows, he may even be HC and AD.

Phil should be set financially...in this situation he can come and do what he loves without the pressure

All the fans fault! Frickin fans!!! If it weren't for those d**n fans, Phil would still be coach and we would be winning national titles!

it sure as hell would be a f___load better than the sh1t we just experienced in the past 4 years. I'd take a bad Phil over LK and DD. If you dont agree with that then you've only proven your stupidity. Idiot.

Ridgewood >>>>> Firehouse

If you are ever in Ringgold, Georgia you should stop in at Bailey's BBQ on Hwy 41. I've had Firehouse and Ridgewood, but Bailey's beats them all. It is not a big chain. It is only one family owned restaurant, but it well worth a try. I usually get the BBQ pork plate with ranch fries, cole slaw, couple of rolls, and baked beans. They have many different combos. Try it and you'll like it.

We don't need to recruit against Fulmer too..

I've grown up watching and cheering for the Vols, but I'm also an ETSU alum. Based on some of the responses in this thread, it almost seems like some Vol fans are actually afraid that Fulmer might go there and be successful...fear of eating crow perhaps?

Seriously? The world is full of good football coaches that got chewed up and spit out by the SEC. What CPF does or doesn't do at a place like ETSU is irrelevant as far as "crow" goes.

Why don't they bring back the Tu-La-Fe? There is just not enough drunken debauchery in JC anymore.
