'17 GA ATH DeAngelo Gibbs

To each their own. I prefer local announcers. They're much more informed about the teams, and if they're any good, their excitement makes a broadcast better IMO.

Big difference between "local" announcers and "homer" announcers IMHO.

For example, John Ward was obviously a "local" announcer but he was professional and fair-minded and I don't think I ever heard him refer to the Vols as "we", and I respected him for that, although it was beyond clear who he was working for/wanting to win.

Otoh, there's former Georgia announcer Larry Munson....he was the biggest "homer" announcer I've ever heard and I thought he was unprofessional and just God-awful. Constantly said "we" and "us".....not the way to do it. Jmo.

I love local announcers. You can be local and not be a homer.

I actually enjoyed listening to Munson. He was a homer and he and everyone else knew it. He was funny and crazy in a way that made college football fun. You can tell Mike Keith is a homer and very professional. Munson's style was his style and it was good for what it was. Just my opinion.

I've said this before on here...but his hobnail boot call makes me want to dig up his corpse and punch him in the face. One of the absolute most unprofessional, obnoxious calls of all time.

Sure, Munson was a homer and the Georgia people loved him; but the knife cuts both ways. Give the Dawgs some crap and see if they like it.

I was driving in the Northeast one time and listened to the first half of a Georgia game. It was the only game I could find on the radio! I knew it was Georgia when I heard Munson. But I never found out who they were playing. All he said was we and they.

I got you brother, your opinion, we all got em. I just thought he was horrible....every bit as bad as Johnny Most of the Celtics.

Agree with you about Keith. And he grew up under the influence of Ward, which is what I prefer. Talented, professional, fair.

Possibly. But Gibbs looked more excited during the final OV weekend than Warrior.

I'll be shocked if he isnt a vol.

I agree smart is recruiting on another level so it still makes me a little uncomfortable. Love see dawgs win 7 or 8 games and knock down hype train

Only because you're on the other side of it. If John Ward had offered up a similar quote following Florida's missed FG to tie in 98, we'd be teaching kids to memorize it in schools alongside the preamble to the Constitution and Gettysburg Address.

I hate hearing that quote replayed too, but only because I'm reminded of how we blew that game after being spotted a 14-pt lead in what was otherwise an awesome season.

They still teach the preamble I thought that was supposed to be un-American or something like that

Well, I'm 30ish years removed from 4th grade, or whenever it was taught. If they don't still teach it, they should...'Murica.

Lol the antenna is broken on my junky work car. I pick up one station between my house and Chattanooga. I listened for about a minute. As i said, insufferable.

I will accept my punishment

You already did.

I didn't like ANY of Munson's play by play. The hobnail boot call was but one of a career full of ish calls. You'd never, ever hear John Ward make a classless, backwater, half-drunk fan comment like that while calling a game. Too much professionalism, too much class. Munson was awful IMO.

The problem with Munson wasn't that he was a homer. The problem with Munson was that he was awful at describing what was going on. "AH RIGHT, HERE'S THE SNAP. WE THROW IT DOWNFIELD... AND WE GOT IT!!" And then that's it. Barely any down and distance. No description of formations. Only occasional mention of players' names. Etc. I could get in the car, turn on a Georgia game, drive for 10 minutes, get out of the car and still not know what the score was. I liked Larry Munson as a sports personality but he was terrible at play by play.
