'17 GA ATH DeAngelo Gibbs

It's probably going to be a Tennessee-UGA battle to the end. Nigel is his cousin but his best friend is Breon Dixon who is a 2017 UGA commit. Dixon, Gibbs, Jamyest Williams and Tony Gray; all transferred to Grayson HS so they could play together. All four are UGA targets.

Thanks for the info.

I keep hearing this kid is ours to lose.

Unless Nigel has a bad experience during his first year for some reason. Which, I can't see happening. I think he's the most talented true frosh we're gonna have on the roster.

But anyway, regarding the UT-UGA recruiting battle...

We need a satellite camp in Atlanta. I admire Butch for not wanting to take himself away from the program, but the region is too important for our recruiting to ignore.

With an impressive in-state class for 2017, I think it's pretty darn important to lock these kids up, because I expect the Dawgs to improve over the next couple of years, and the amount of talent we poach out of GA to decrease.

That's not necessarily a death knell for our program if we dominate the mid-state and continue to show strong in the Charlotte and Hampton Roads/VA Beach areas.

We are having a Satellite camp in Atlanta. It will be at Georgia State in mid June.

Thanks for the info.

Your welcome. I live in the Grayson school district and my daughter attends Grayson HS. I'll be going to a lot of games this year, including the first game against IMG, which is a home game for Grayson. Really weird how all these players decided to transfer to Grayson for their senior year. Owen Pappoe also plays for Grayson, as does Chase Brice. Chase is committed to Clemson. It's going to be a pretty loaded HS team. It will be interesting to see if IMG can throw against them with Jamyest and Gibbs in coverage. Both those kids are potential shut down corners at the HS level.

All four are UT targets as well.

Did you spell your own school wrong?

Interesting news about UGA picking up steam here.

Meanwhile, LSU gaining momentum with Stevens.

No knock on your collegiate affiliation or your daughter's school, but it just stinks to high heaven to me. It seems like the GHSA picks and chooses which transfer eligibility and hardship waivers they allow, and it comes off as though Grayson is rarely told no. Same with Tucker, Norcross, Archer, Newton Co., Buford, and some of the other high-powered metro-Atlanta programs.

Im sure Mickey Conn runs a clean program. The GHSA, in my experience, has been capricious and arbitrary.

I actually don't mind hearing that about Stevens. Better that he remain torn and let the season play out because it seems that an early commitment for him would not bode well for us.

He said he's announcing July 19 and shutting it down

Dude already committed and decommitted once, why not wait until NSD. Eh hopefully LSU, UGA, and UT give him so much to think about that he can't declare then and has to wait. It really sounds to me like our only chance at landing Stevens is for us to live up to the hype on the field and have LSU and UGA maybe stumble a bit.

I don't think we get him.

Conn left to join his buddy Dabo at Clemson. Dabo hired him as an off field assistant. Georgia added a Class 7 (AAAAAAA) for 2016 and a bunch of schools got reclassified, and or moved into different Regions. Don't think that played much of a role in these transfers, but who knows. Parents move for lots of reasons, including for football. If the parents move into the district, which I believe is the case with these transfers, I'm not sure the GHSA can keep the kids from playing at the new school.

Buford is a City School and therefore are allowed to enroll kids from different districts. Part of the redistricting that took place was to reclassify some of the City schools that had a competitive advantage over County schools who are basically limited to players in their district...or at least county. Buford got bumped up to Class AAAAA.
