'17 GA ATH DeAngelo Gibbs

Two guys don't make a class. You are 100% correct. My only purpose was that I really was hoping to land both Gibbs and Higgins. And as I said, we very well could still land Gibbs it's a long way off. Lots can change. Just a bad momentum streak at the moment.

This is why the season needs to get here. We need to be able to show these recruits that our product is working. September 1st cannot come soon enough.
I keep hearing that, but that is entirely dependant on exactly which one or two guys you are talking about, and how good the class is around them. How many less games would we have won in the 90s without PM or Al Wilson? Guys like that make a real good class into great classes. Therefore it becomes the difference between having good teams and great teams. I agree with the saying to this point, no two players can elevate a below average class to an elite class.

Landing elite players can lead to others buying in. If the best of the best isn't jumping onboard, others step back and ask themselves why. Of course having Higgins and Gibbs onboard would be making an enormous difference.

Higgins was a strong want, because we hoped he would be the Pied Piper for in-state and elite recruits. Gibbs is a better player for our system. I think we'll be in Gibbs' ear until NSD, and once the season starts, we'll be showing not telling.

If TN is still in his ear, I can guarantee he is 100% Vol....he's an EE

IMO 9 wins should have been enough to sell top recruits on the improvement. UT went from being embarrassed in blow outs under Dooley to being right there to win at the end vs some of the best in the country. IMO it's sellable. It's clear progress. Now why is our staff struggling to sell it? Schools not picked to contend for SEC and or a national title are whooping us recruiting wise. It's a problem.

Its the way we lost 3 of our 4 games last year that is the issue.

Time to start selling signature wins, SEC championships, and NFL draft picks.

That's what the elite recruits are looking at now.

The success of this season will impact this recruiting class big time.

Once again, I just can't imagine that's a tough sell. If as a coach I lost in OT or by a point I can absolutely sell the crap out of that to a recruit. "You could have been the difference in us getting that point or two". "You would have made that play to win it".

If UT wasn't being picked by EVERYONE to get over the hump this year I might feel differently. I'm not a salesman, but I could sell the crap out of the improvement in the program and the season ahead. Why it's a current struggle is a problem IMO.

I personally don't think Gibbs is as good a prospect as the recruiting services but it's a bad look for Butch if we lose him.

He's a guy who looked all Vol in February.

If we lose him, it would mean there's a really potent argument being made against Butch that is very effective right now with recruits.

Gibbs is the best player in Georgia. Who exactly do you have rated higher? He looked all Vol because he is all Vol. Nigel sealed the deal for us. All this chatter about UGA is just that, chatter. And if we do lose him, which we won't, it perhaps points to a new regime with recruiting momentum @UGA---kinda like we had in 2014. But that doesn't mean we don't beat their a$$es this year and next, which will only help in sealing the deal for players like Gibbs in the first place.

I've always had Gibbs at the top of my 2017 must get list. Kid is a gamer. I felt great about our chances, until recently.

Tennessee had set up a spot to take Gibbs cousin Reed as a transfer from Tulsa. This would have absolutely sealed the deal for us to get Gibbs. For some reason Gibbs himself stepped in, stopped the UT thing, and had Reed introduced to the UGA staff. Reed ended up going to UGA instead of Tennessee. I'd love for that to be easily explained away. IMO, it can't be.

I understand Reed is his cousin, but in no way has he been as close to him growing up as he has to Nigel. Everything that I have read indicates that Gibbs and Nigel see each other as brothers. Is it possible that Gibbs introduced him to UGA because he thought he would have more of an opportunity to succeed? Just spitballing here.

That just doesn't make sense to me. If all 3 could have played together and UT was ready to make it happen, encouraging him to go to a bitter rival makes no sense.
