'24 GA ATH Kamron Mikell (Colorado commit)

The more we check around on Kam Mikell, the more we continue to hear that his desire to play offense is much more important than he alluded to early in the process. This certainly is a plus for Tennessee. He has yet to make a final decision on his official date as the potential of coming in for the weekend of South Carolina game remains strong.

Some uga people dont think he will be in uga’s class if he waits to November to commit
They won’t have room. UGA is at like 25 public commits and who knows how many silent commits. That’s why they tried to pressure Chris Cole to commit or he might lose his spot. When you’re located in the most talent rich state per capita and the 2 time defending champion you can get away with those type of recruiting moves. But we may be able to get Mikell and Cole because of lord bowlcuts actions.

Plus Mikell isn't going to GA unless they let him play offense. Kirby would tell him he could then change it once he got on campus. Hopefully he realizes he will play WR and WR only at TN.

This kid is scheduled to take at least 4 OVs this fall to schools not named UGA. I doubt he ends up there.

Exactly. Just saying if GA had established he could play WR at GA early on, he's most likely would be a Dawg by now. Luckily they haven't!
He's not a huge priority for UGA. I'm sure they really like his potential athletically, but just like with Mike Matthews' recruitment, Kirby likes putting his best athletes on defense. That is his championship recipe. Stifling defense with an offense that focuses on the run game and throwing to the TE.

Respectfully disagree. He’s a major priority for them, it’s just they want him on defense. Their pitch will be “come play for natties, Kirby Smart thinks you’re a future NFL CB.” If he comes around to that, he’s likely going there. If we can convince him he’s a future NFL WR - which he wants to hear - he’s likely coming here.

He has doubled down recently on wanting to play WR. We were initially recruiting him as a DB because of the WRs on our board, but switched gears when he said he wanted to play WR. Georgia has 3WRs committed, but two of them are 5'9 and 5'10 respectively. The resistance by Kirby to switch gears and just recruit him as an athlete tells me that he's not a major priority, unless you think it's pure arrogance on their part. They also have 2 CBs committed that are much more highly regarded than him.

From UGA 247 three days ago:

“Of the 2024 prospects remaining, here's the list of priorities for Georgia, in no particular order: LJ McCray, Aydin Breland, Kam Mikell, Chris Cole, flipping KJ Bolden, flipping a 5-star receiver (i.e. Mike Matthews, Jeremiah Smith, Cameron Coleman), and finding a late-riser at safety.”

Seems to me he’s absolutely a major target for them, and at the same time they do not consider him a WR. Pretty easy to see what an incredibly ELITE talent he is when the best offensive and defensive head coaches IN THE GAME covet him on their respective side of the ball.

That's info from a recruiting site. The same site (24/7) that over the last two years have claimed certain players were a major priority for us, but actual insiders(not talking heads) let us know that we cooled on those prospects, for one reason or another, long before they committed elsewhere. There's a difference between still actively recruiting someone and that person being a major priority. Would they take his commitment today? yes. Do they value him enough to wait and still take him in late November? Probably not.

Guess we'll see, and certainly hope not!

The instate angle is conventional thought. But, the big three of GA, AL and OHSt recruit nationally.

That’s bc they can get anyone from anywhere…. We are trying to recruit nationally as well but not as successfully…. That’s why instate recruiting is more important for us.

I don’t know how Georgia has enough room. Currently, they have 26 commitments. Here are the # of players they’ve signed over the past 4 years:

2023: 30
2022: 30
2021: 20
2020: 25

They’ve had several players leave early for the draft but that’s still a big number.
They could/should lose a lot to the draft this year numbers-wise. Milton, Bowers, Mims, Van Pran, Truss, Ratledge maybe, McConkey, RaRa/Lovett could if they have a good year, Stackhouse, Brinson, JDJ, Smael, Lassiter, Bullard, Tykee

Statesboro wide receiver Kam Mikell is working to move up his official visit to Tennessee. It’s looking like right now that he will bump things up to the South Carolina weekend. He is also planning to visit Colorado and Texas A&M during September and October. He reiterated to us this week that playing wide receiver is most important to him.
