Paying recruits is not illegal. it is an NCAA "rule" violation... and the NCAA has no subpoena powers to compel anybody to produce any evidence...Using Agents that get involved with families...that appears to be the route these days.
Auburn nobody does it better...You get on probation trying to "compete" in that game wiith them...
Umm...pretty sure it is illegal. Just refer to the recent FBI investigation and wiretaps involving NCAA basketball coaches and assistants discussing payments with recruits.
A few of these assistants were indicted on federal charges.
I'm sure this scared off the discussion of money changing hands some. There are still other ways to "pay" recruits and their families.

Actually, you bring up an excellent point which is why are Feds even worried about this..The NCAA has pushed the envelope to get third parties indicted for "inducing" prospects to make themselves ineligible....But not claiming any culpability on the part of the prospect...Such being a fraud charge....
But you can be sure that no NCAA institution is going to seek to have its Athletic Association or boosters prosecuted for meddling in their programs.
Yeah don't get upset with the person sharing the information rather give little value to the said information as it is always shaky at best.
