I think it's a mistake and I think it's also going to cost them when a final decision is made.

I can't for the life of me figure out why they wouldn't want bigger LB's if they are intent on running this 4-2-5 they've come up with. They continue to recruit like they are running a traditional 4-3, with how they want to convert all these LB's with any size whatsoever to DE and all these Safeties to LB.

Converting smaller safeties to LB when you only put 2 out there is a recipe for disaster in this league. You need 2 big, physical LB's who can play in the box.

i have to believe the 4-3 is where he's headed back to.

personnel right now is a little iffy on doing that effectively at LB, but it's a little better than it was, #'s wise, last year.

i do agree on the recruiting trend though. i would expect us to be going after more true OLB's....

I agree, it probably will cost UT. I think UT has to have at least one big enforcer LB in the game at all times. Hopefully, Bituli can be that kid for the next couple of years.

I think it's strange that UT is still recruiting Peters as LB, which I like, but he is slower than Jibunor and taller. Seems to me like Peters would be the more ideal kid to move to DE. But what do I know ?

I agree with you on Peters being a better fit at DE long-term and Jibunor being better at LB.

ok, so with Emerson now in the fold, at DE, does that free us up to recruit Jibunor as an OLB????

surely that has to help clear some things up right?

wat?

one weighs 300lbs and one weighs 200lbs. Why would one depend on the other?

there's a lot of chatter about this guy being recruited as DE , not OLB....the position iirc he would rather play, and is being recruited for at some of our competitors.

now having Emerson in the fold, does that open up some options on the roster to fit Jibunor at a position of need, and a position he would maybe rather play--OLB?

if Auburn is leading because they're recruiting him as an OLB, and we aren't, now having Emerson in the fold, does that free it up to also recruit him as an OLB, and tip the scales back in our favor?

I don't pretend to know football better than anyone else here, but this is relevant:

“Coach (Phillip) Fulmer recruited safeties and played them at linebacker, and then linebackers to play at defensive end,” Thompson said. “Me, Al and Eric, we were all safeties in high school. The thought was to get more speed out there because we were playing Florida and they were spreading the field.”

I would be OK with safties playing linebacker if we could get more Wilsons, Westmorelands, and Thompsons.

I don't know. Emerson was supposedly a silent commit since OCD and Jibunor was there, too. So, I would think UT could have started recruiting him then for OLB. Maybe, if we get Gerald this week, that might help. I just don't get it tho, Jibunar looks like a star at LB, big, fast and explosive to the ball. Plus, LB may be our biggest need, left in this class. Why not recruit this kid at the position he wants to play and potentially could be the LB, UT hasn't had sice A.J. Johnson had to leave. Unless, UT is shifting their philosophy on what kind of LBs they want. Imo, I put the full court press on this kid and tell him, he can play LB and hell, even some TE.

not sure about the TE thing, but i agree 100% on the LB angle....we need 'em and don't have enough of 'em.

Yeah, I was kidding about the TE thing. But, he did play WR for his high school team, also. If u check out his highlights on "hudl", they show a couple of his plays at WR, he is fast and a pretty damn good WR. His speed would be wasted at DE, imo. He is a sideline to sideline LB that brings a big stick. I really, really, really hope UT can get this kid

well i don't like putting our eggs in a single basket, and it's July so i don't want to overreact...but....there's not a lot of activity on our part (that i can see anyway...) saying we're in on multiple high quality LB's....

so yeah, if we could get him, surely he's a take at OLB....especially now with how the DL is shaping up elsewhere......

I agree with your sentiment but speed is never wasted at de.

Jibunior reminds of me a lot like Darrell Taylor in high school. I could see him becoming a DE in the future .

Do you think he could be used in a Hybrid role. Play OLB and then move in to DE in certain situations depending on the situation

Yes, that's exactly what I could picture him doing in the future. His speed and explosiveness would fit very well for that position.

That's what I was thinking too. Can you picture him coming of the edge with out putting his hand down. That speed would be down right scary

i would say he would following Curt Maggitt's footsteps not DTs. DT has been DE since day one. CM would play standing up and wrecked fools

Most LBs that Fulmer converted were first and foremost RBs in HS including Wilson. That's a fact.

Wilson also played some QB as well as a DB. His size and speed was just mind blowing and that mean streak, was just made for lb at the next level
