'19 GA CB Warren Burrell (Tennessee signee)

But there are a couple of extra considerations...

1 - Did he have the ultimate say on who to extend offers at Georgia, Bama or FSU? Answer is probably not.

2 - What 3-stars did he REALLY, REALLY want that were passed on or his evaluation was overriden? This is the $64,000 question and very few people are going to know the true answer...him, Richt, Jimbo and Saban. For all we know, he may have predicted a lot of home runs but ended up watching these kids ball out at other schools.

I might very well be wrong, but for him to be jumping on some of these kids months before signing day indicates to me he likes what he sees and doesn't want to let them get away.

I know, I know...this sounds like blind optimism. But I find it extremely hard to believe that he went after some of the super talents he did last year at the 11th hour yet is now taking whomever he can with months to spare. This would make no sense to me.

Also hard to look back to see who he offered early that ended up being bumped because you can only see final rating when going back. Heck we saw several dudes just this last class that he got on late then 247 bumped them to 4 stars lol pruitt bump

I agree. I think this is what he’ll have to do. Hopefully he’ll get some top dudes like Crouch, Wright and Bogle this year tho to speed up that process

Landing those three would be huge, but they all seem so iffy to me. I have heard too many big fish tales in my time, I was a lot more solid in my optimism on Wright and Bogle till the last few days, but I really haven't been about Crouch...I really hope we get them all. Lord knows we need them badly.

I agree..I don't think he is reaching at all...I think he taking guys he wants

4-8...worst team in UT history. Yeah that is a bigger hole, and is a quantifiable fact

It is one win worse than Dooley went sure, but the roster is not worse off, not even close. Go look at the team Butch put on the field in year one. This team is far more talented than Butch's first team and literally anyone who evaluates talent for a living would agree with that statement.

Also there isn't a bunch of the off field stuff that Dooley left either. This team that we're going to field this year would beat the brakes off of that 2013 team. We went 4-8 last year because of all of the coaching drama, not because the team was a 4-8 team.

2013 team had enough talent to beat the best team in South Carolina history.

With Flute Boy coaching it.

Butch inherited one of the best O-lines in UT history. Multiple NFL starters.

With an awful running back, an awful QB, awful receivers except for North, awful defense outside of AJ, walk ons playing in the secondary. Auburn ran for 4,000 miles against us in Butch's first year because we didn't have the personnel.

Meanwhile Pruitt has 2 five stars on his OL, Callaway and Jennings at receiver, loaded at RB, 2 four star QB's, Shy Tuttle, Kyle Phillips, Kongbo, Taylor, Warrior, Abernathy, TK, Alontae Taylor, Bituli, DK, JJ Peterson, Ignont, Shamburger etc. etc. All of these guys are more talented than the guys Butch had on that first roster with the exception of Butch's OL. Trey Smith better than any of them tho.

4-8..with defense and offense both being among the absolute worst in all of D1 football. Those are quantifiable facts, unlike your supposition about the heretofore unicorn like "talent" on this team.

There may be enough unreached talent there to establish a winning program, but it is a fact that that "team" was the worst in UT football history.

It is a good point. I’m not saying Pruitt’s doing a bad job. He’s doing fine. But eventually he’ll have to do even better if we’re going to win championships. Only point I’m making. He does have an uphill battle right now with recent history, but we’re not asking too much for a top 10 class. I’m sure he would agree

I can agree with this and I think we will finish top 8-12 unless we completely suck this season

Yes we had awful coaching. But you can't compare this roster to what Butch Jones inherited. That's a joke.

Honestly, if you had to pick right now, which team would you rather have, the 2018 Vols or the 2013 vols? If you say 2013 you're crazy.

Butch Jones did it following Dooley. Pruitt is better than Butch Jones. It isn’t too much to ask to finish top 10, which is what I said, 5-10

Butch was fortunate that there were a bunch of legacy kids in those first couple of classes, and he was apparently guaranteeing everyone he recruited they would start Day One. Not to mention he signed like 35 kids his first couple of classes. If you rerank those classes after so many left the program early, those 2 really good classes were not nearly so good.

Right now all Pruitt has to sell is his reputation and his staff's reputation, and that UT was once upon a time a power. What recruits see today is an SEC bottom feeder who hired Pruitt to make the program a power again. If recruits are interested in UT it is because of Pruitt and his staff and not because UT used to be a power, or has the biggest recruiting budget in the SEC.

I think this class will be a solid top 12 class, maybe 3rd or 4th in the SEC, and 2nd in the East behind UGA.

Another 3-star huh? I'm all for trusting your own evaluations but this will be our 10th 3-star.

Oh good. We can get this started early and get it out of the way before tomorrow. Here is basically everything that will be said for the next few pages.

"this seems like a reach only a 3 star" ,
"I trust the coaches over sites",
"the same thing was said about butch and dooley",
"what about Sutton",
"they can't all be diamonds in the rough",
"he'll get bumped",
"they never get bumped",
"yer such a negavol",
"I don't do blind faith after the last coach", etc.

I think it is the worst because they have done zero to prove me wrong, that is not crazy, that is fact.

But how about we just say both squads sucked. One thing you are not taking into account in this equation is the fallout from the search debacle. I would have to be sold hard about UTs viabilty as a stable program after that embarrasing crapstorm if I was not a UT fan before I would be ok with sending my kid there.

Which roster would you take, 2013 or 2018?
