'19 GA CB Warren Burrell (Tennessee signee)

I decided to do a little research. So, Pruitt was at UGA in 2014 and 2015, so I presume he had influence in those recruiting classes on defense. They signed six defensive backs in those two classes that were 3 stars or less. At least one was a 2 star. A couple of them did transfer. One was Dominick Sanders, who had a very good career. One was Deandre Baker, who is a senior, and was on SEC 2nd team defense. One was Jarvis Wilson, who has appeared in 39 games, but mainly on special teams. One was Jonathan Abram, who played as a true freshman, transferred when Pruitt left, and now starts for Mississippi State.

They took some 3 star LB’s and DL as well, but I didn’t take the time to look those up. So, you aren’t going to hit 100%, but at UGA, it appears Pruitt hit on several 3 starsthat have been major contributors. You have to remember that there are only so many 4 star players in the state of Georgia, Florida, etc. The services will just slot a certain number. So, there are plenty of 3 stars who will contribute. Just have to find those.

Yes, I really should redo the first paragraph to my term paper. But if I do, I'll have the rewrite the whole thing and that's a lot of extra work.

That is the kind of snarky metaphor I've been trying to think of but failed. Thanks. It is pretty perfect.

Anybody know what time he's supposed to be committing tomorrow? I apologize if that's been asked before, there's too much to scroll through that has nothing to do with Burrell that I wasn't sure if it had been said already.

On potential alone, I would have to say 2018, but that is also taking into account they guys Pruitt got in his first class.

2013 also takes into account the guys that Butch got in his first class.

Okay, if the 2018 roster is better, then the team that Butch inherited is worse than the team that Pruitt is inheriting. He has better players than Butch did.

This isn’t basketball. Also, we aren’t worse off than we were when Butch took over. That’s fake news

Fake news does not mean what you think it means. It does not mean that you have a different opinion. It means something is false. Once again, people are having difficulty distinguishing fact from opinion. I like a lot of your posts, but you have some of the hottest takes (i.e. off the cuff with little analysis) on here.

Coaching is coaching no matter the sport. A good coach will identify and develop talent. And from a perception point we are. 5 years deeper into the abyss of mediocrity, all those players that came here and weren’t developed, butch’s dumb sayings, etc.

look Warren and DJ Turner were both offered by Bama during this past season....ive watched him play for 3 years now and can count on 1 hand where he was beaT in coverage. He has everything you want in a corner in fact he looks to have gained some good weight and plays with that swagger you see in lockdown corners.

And he seems to form opinions without watching a lot of these guys play. I don’t know how someone watches Clemons and Harrison and doesn’t see that they have tremendous upside

To say that Butch's 2013 team is better than the 2018 team is not opinion, it is fake news.

Which would you take? 2013 or 2018 roster?

Oh good. We can get this started early and get it out of the way before tomorrow. Here is basically everything that will be said for the next few pages.

"this seems like a reach only a 3 star" ,
"I trust the coaches over sites",
"the same thing was said about butch and dooley",
"what about Sutton",
"they can't all be diamonds in the rough",
"he'll get bumped",
"they never get bumped",
"yer such a negavol",
"I don't do blind faith after the last coach", etc.

One thing you almost definitely will not hear:

"I hope I am wrong."

Okay, if the 2018 roster is better, then the situation that Pruitt is walking into is better. He has better players than Butch did.

That is not taking into account the absolute and undeniable brokeness of the whole program. That was the worst team and worst UT football program I've ever seen, on the field and in the office...period. It is going to take a lot more work to fix.

Ask me after the season. It is your opinion. One that many people may or may not share. I agree with McGill that last season was the worst one we have ever had. We have questions about talent at multiple positions, with QB and DL, two of the most critical, being among them.

Does not have any bearing on what will happen on the field. You want to talk lack of development? Okay, Dooley didn't develop those guys either.

Fact is the same. 2018 team is better than the 2013 team. I don't even remember how we got onto this discussion, but Butch had a crappy roster and he recruited very well for that 2014 class. yes, he had some legacy players, but Pruitt and staff has far more contacts in the south than Butch did. If Butch could recruit top 10 then I see no reason why Pruitt can't.

You must not remember that 2013 roster.

But there are a couple of extra considerations...

1 - Did he have the ultimate say on who to extend offers at Georgia, Bama or FSU? Answer is probably not.

2 - What 3-stars did he REALLY, REALLY want that were passed on or his evaluation was overriden? This is the $64,000 question and very few people are going to know the true answer...him, Richt, Jimbo and Saban. For all we know, he may have predicted a lot of home runs but ended up watching these kids ball out at other schools.

I might very well be wrong, but for him to be jumping on some of these kids months before signing day indicates to me he likes what he sees and doesn't want to let them get away.

I know, I know...this sounds like blind optimism. But I find it extremely hard to believe that he went after some of the super talents he did last year at the 11th hour yet is now taking whomever he can with months to spare. This would make no sense to me.

Another thing that's harder to research is what were they rated when he offered them. It's very possible that a good amount of guys he recruited at those schools were under the radar and low rated when he offered them and the services caught on and bumped them when they saw the offer or commitment. There is a running joke about the bama bump the last few years for a reason. The sites tend to bump their recruits more often than other schools. I don't know how to go back and find data on that but I bet a lot of guys they took weren't 4 stars when they first evaluated them.

You said they were “curious takes”. I took that as meaning you didn’t think they were good players

How would I know if they are a good player? All I've seen are highlight videos. I think you can read the rest of my posts and see that I have confidence in Pruitt's ability to evaluate and develop talent. Eventually tho, we're going to have to recruit at an elite level if we want to win championships. It may take time, as I have said, so that Pruitt can show progress on the field, but eventually if we want to compete with UGA and Bama we'll have to recruit with them.

Stats, coaching evals, offers, highlights, etc. there are a number of ways to tell if someone has the ability to be a good player or not. If you trust Pruitt so much why do you care what a player is rated? You think he’s taking kids that he thinks won’t help us win?

I get that everyone here wants a top 5 class but that’s jumping the gun. We hit rock bottom last year and this staff is going to have to prove to recruits, high school coaches, and parents that they can be trusted unlike the past few coaching staffs. That will 100% take time.

Butch dug us further into a hole than many realize. We’ve become the premier laughing stock of college football thanks to him. Pruitt is doing just fine. Ask rick Barnes about recruiting and coaching three stars. Good coaches find players they like and help them reach their potential. Pruitt knows what traits elite athletes have. I will trust him all day over any recruiting service.

You gotta go through a length list before you reach us as a “laughing stock”...much less THE. Start with Kansas and give it a few hours.

I’ve said top 10. Don’t expect top 5. I think Pruitt would rather have other guys than some we have committed. But I also believe he thinks they can help us in case he doesn’t land those other guys.

No we’re without a doubt the biggest meme on r/CFB which has 450k college football fans. Texas is probably second. Florida is catching up with all the arrests
