'17 GA DT Aubrey Solomon (NCAA IS A FAIR ORGANIZATION)

Imo the college experience is about stories like Marcus Tatum much more so than stories about Justin Fields. I think sticking things out is one of the lessons to be learned from athletics

But to be more specific free agency would erode the team atmosphere in most lockerooms. “Handlers” and coaches would be involved in year round recruiting off other colleges rosters which is bad for everyone including the product we see of play on Saturdays in the fall
Thanks for answering and I 100% disagree with you and feel as though you are making an argument against the far side of the spectrum that doesnt really represent how changing the rules on transfers would bring. There should be some structure that prevents a free for all, but the way it is now is not right IMO and it puts all the power with the Universities and the former head coaches to be able to control an individual that they really shouldnt have the control of. Give each player a one time transfer free from all the ******** that the NCAA forces on it currently. Also your assertion that free agency erodes the team atmosphere is a stretch at best, every single professional sport has a free agency of some sort and "team atmospheres" haven't all of a sudden died due to it. The transfer limitiations that the NCAA forces on student athletes is nothing more than them asserting their self perceived right to control student athletes and at the same time masking that with some ******** that they do these things with the student athlete in mind.

Good post and I agree with a lot of it.

I completely agree the rules now don’t work. I’m more for opening it up all the way than I am for what we have now.

I do like the thought of a one time “free” transfer.

The reference to professional athletes I don’t agree with though. Much different level of maturity and agents handle those kinds of things anyway.

We could get into a room and find a better solution that we have now I feel confident

Harbaugh also publicly supports 1 free transfer. Behind the scenes tho👀

You misunderstood my post. I’m not saying you can’t have a 25 hard cap. Still keep that for incoming recruits out of high school.

However, if a school has a guy transfer from their program they should be able to fill that hole with a transfer of their own without a penalty.

On top of that an athlete should get one transfer with immediate eligibility after their first season. If they transfer a second time they should have to sit on the sidelines for a year.

That doesn’t effect the 25.
No, I get what you're saying. The 25 includes all signees. You're saying signing spots can be given back. I think this idea was brought up somewhere else on here.

My issue with that is you're now taking 30, 35 kids whatever and cycling some kids out. It's going to INCREASE transfers imo. The more spots you open up (call it whatever you want), the more flexibility there is to push kids out (ie Saban will shed 5-10 non-performers and take the best transfers he can get). I think it just leads to more funny business from coaches and, without GPA minimums, leads to fewer kids graduating. Would be a madhouse imo.

So a one time eligibility waiver to any school? Might get nutty is all I'm saying when rivals are playing immediately for rivals next season idk. All of a sudden your rivals' #1 classes don't seem so bad 😂

Doesn't matter if they are rivals or not IMO, has nothing to do with the very basis of why I think these players should have to freedom to move to another program at a certain time during the year (like a transfer window) and get like one during their college career. The fact that a former coach or University can prevent a player from playing at another institution the next year just supports the idea that they are owned property. If players were given a 4 year scholarship and agreement (dont think this is the case) then I could support the idea that they are contractually obligated to that University, but it isnt a 4 year agreement and the University can pull it if say the player gets injured or something. All JMO

No they can't pull it for injury. Very specific cases where they can actually pull.

And yes scholarships in P5 conferences (not sure if G5 ever passed similar legislation) now have guaranteed multiyear scholarships. I forget exactly when this was passed, I want to say around 2015.

I know that the ban on multiyear scholarships were lifted, but didnt know they passed guaranteed multiyear scholarships.

It’s complicated but it’s never been legal to take $ from a player for poor play. Players have always been able to appeal if a coach does that but to my knowledge never have gone thru with it. Coaches are always going to claim missed classes, poor attitudes..... ect if an appeal ever happened

Wonder if all this public heat coming out suddenly on Michigan will help push them to cooperate. Knowing harbaugh probably not but perhaps his AD caves

Could be wrong, but it seemed like Harbaugh not cooperating only slow downed and ultimately caused the first attempt to be denied. I wouldn't think his lack of compliance would affect the appeal. Can anybody confirm this?

It is affecting the appeal. It's probably why Solomon will be sitting out this year.

Don't know why the people making the decisions would put a lot of weight in Harbaugh's lack of cooperation on the appeal. If he wasn't going to cooperate with the first attempt he definitely was going to on the second try. There have to be ways to get AS cleared without getting Harbaugh's cooperation or there wouldn't be any reason for UT to file an appeal.

The previous schools opinion is written into the rules. It's one of the biggest factors. It shouldn't be but it is.
