I agree with both of those but the fact is they may be actually following the rules and on the side of truth

We all know why fields and the Ohio state qb left was about playing time. Many here have ridiculed their cases which very possibly is the same as siding with Michigan in this case
Michigan doesn’t own this kid. He’s no their property. If he wants to leave to play football somewhere else he should be able to do that.

Imo Georgia and Ohio state shouldn’t have supported those kids because they clearly left for playing time which isn’t allowed with a waiver
Of course it's in the best interest of the university for transfer to have to sit a year. Which is why they should have no say. At the moment they do, so the only recourse for transfers not all getting immediate eligibility is to take it to social media where both the university and NCAA will be held accountable in a court of Tweets.

The issue though is the family is saying Michigan lied about playing time being the reason because they knew it would squash the waiver. The family claims that was never the reason and never said it was.

That's the issue-- the discrepancy between a) what both parents claim they said on a conference call with Harbaugh and b) Michigan submitting documentation alleging a different reason and providing notes from a Michigan assistant AD who wasn't even on the call. And the parents said they submitted supporting documentation from a physician. And the new school is within the NCAA's 100-mile radius-- in fact, the closest school to the player's support system.

So secondhand notes from a guy who would have had no reason to document the call vs. documentation of a health or mental health issue that a licensed physician is willing to attest to in writing? You go, Michigan, die on that hill.

Like i said until the family tells us what the reason is how do we know they are being forthright?
They said they provided doctor's records. Not sure what more you deserve to know. If you just don't think people should be allowed to transfer without sitting a year, that's fine.

So you are in favor of free agency without sitting out. I can respect that but that isn’t the current rules we are playing by

Bruin just enjoys the devil's advocate role. let'm fizzle out..

imagine taking Harbaugh's side, ever

I’m not taking his side

We don’t have enough info to know who’s side to choose. The family isn’t telling us the reason for the waiver request to move back closer to home. If we knew that we could choose sides

No, the current rules are nobody knows what the current rules are because they can currently change at any moment and are not followed equally for all players or schools anyway.

This is my last post on this until we have more info.

My stance is free agency is bad for college football.

Imo The only reason a player should get a waiver is in extreme circumstances where a family member is deathly ill.

However if the ncaa is going to make it easier than that I am for open free fall free agency. At this point this kid discussed here could have gone to a shrink and got written documents saying he was depressed and needed to more back home after tell
Michigan he was leaving for a better on field opportunity.

Imo it’s just too easy to work the system that isn’t consistent anyway so either make it very very specific and difficult to get a waiver or make it free and open to everyone

They don't have to tell us. They told the NCAA. We have no right to that. Do you think every family of kids that leaves Michigan are lying or is it more likely Michigan is? Based on the stories from these families and other coaches involved and Harbaugh's comments, it sounds to me like Michigan is just classifying all of them as leaving for playing time so the waivers get denied.

These are college kids. Regular students can transfer schools whenever they want. Players should be able to as well. If they like where they are then they won’t leave.

Free agency is fine so long as the NCAA stops micromanaging scholarship count in the dumbest way imagineable

The specifics of detailed truth are not even what is important (that is even if UM is being truthful). All that matters in this type of situation is optics
UM administration/coaches that are choosing to make this stand are complete idiots. There is absolutely no way they "win" in this scenario. Lose-lose situation. Spite? Pettiness? Morality? Doesn't even matter why.

I could understand if they were blocking transfers of former 5 star players to a conference rival, but they just blocked a kid from going to GT, a school in a different conference that they will VERY likely not play this year, or any time during the kid's career for that matter.

The only info we need to know is that this kid wants to play for the Vawls...in my book that deserves a decision for immediate eligibility.

If the kid went to Bammer or UGa or UF, then have him sit a year. Or 10.

Easiest way to fix the transfer problem is that you get that scholarship and counter back for that season and all transfers have to be conducted before the start of a season. That way the school who lost a player can recruit another player and it would have to be a transfer not a kid right out of HS.

Then put the limit that you only get one transfer that you can be immediately eligible for anything after that one transfer and you have to sit a year. Baring extenuating circumstances.
