'19 GA LB Jamie Pettway (Missouri signee)

I don't think Pruitt worries much about what the other schools are doing. Does he want the player on the team? If yes, is the interest mutual? Does he want the recruit more than other players who might commit? CJP will develop options, but I get the impression that he will compete for the players he wants. jmho

I’m just wondering what the hesitation is on taking this guy. Is it speed? He looks like a SEC lb to me

Pruitt taking lower rated guys doesn’t bother me. He knows what the best of the best look like and play like. So if he really wants a guy, I trust him.

Pruitt likes larger LB's and this kid at 238 already, looks like he could add another 6-8lbs with that frame and not miss a step.

seems like just needed the Kane Patterson domino to fall and open a spot. He looks good to me too. Physical player that just looks for people to smash

Being that his family is on staff, I'd be willing to bet we don't accept his commitment until we know for certain we don't have a shot at whomever we have higher on the board.

Would be too an awkward situation to have to give him a "git shirt."

I don't put much stock in these random Twitter comments/posts, but FWIW:

Here, Pettway looked decent in the 1 on 1 run drills at the Orlando Camp.

His speed was surprising for a big kid in coverage against a little, fleet-footed Slot WR, but he was burned a couple of times by the big TE. He appeared lost, even:

Possibly. Pettway definitely wants to be a Vol from everything we've heard and seen. The big topic has been whether they want him at this point in the recruitment process

Well, coverage skills are something that almost every high school LB needs to work on. Even if he is only a 2 down LB, I still want him. He's the kinda LB that RBs don't want to continuously get hit by, especially in the 4th quarter

Not the fastest guy out there, but it looks like he has good instincts and first step. Can lower his shoulder and deliver a blow.

He looks like he might be the kind of LB that it hurts just to bump in to. With his size and speed attacking downhill, he could be a force.

My takes on that film. He could easily gain 20 pounds, upper body is smaller than lower, so he would lose no speed and probably gain some.

Really impressed with his film, more than I thought I would be. Long arms, good frame, physical, did much better in coverage than I thought he would. Let’s face it, if ILB’s have to cover slots 1-on-1 then the defense is in trouble. But now when he had them inside the cones, he broke down and made the plays and didn’t fall for all the shake and baking. That’s what you want. I don’t see where Patterson is any better than this kid.

He covered the Slot/RB well, it was the big TE he had problems with. I am guessing that he underestimated his speed. But he's still a young'un yet and fighting off blocks, tackling RBs and sacking QBs is what we need from him anyway.
