'24 GA LB Jordan Burns (Tennessee)

Remember when most of us were beating our chests over Top Five recruiting classes under Butch and not winning anything significant?

How soon do they forget.
Yep. Maybe another part of why I soured on the recruiting sites. I think throughout UT's years of misery the recruiting sites said the Vols were pulling in top 25 talent every year. I realize several other SEC teams did as well... but UT started losing to UK and Vandy and teams like them. Some of it was coaching and development but A LOT of those players were just overrated.

I don't really care about "winning" in the recruiting rankings any more. I just want coaches who can evaluate talent and potential, develop it, and win games. I think Heupel has checked those last two boxes big time. But we are just not going to start seeing his recruits on the field in large numbers.

IMHO, Jones intentionally tried to get UT commits bumped by the recruiting sites. In a way it makes sense. If you appear to be recruiting well then that changes the image of the program and maybe helps you pull even more talent. Didn't work for him because he still couldn't coach or evaluate talent worth a dime... but I get what he was hoping for.

😂 So now we’re excited about a win in recruiting over Vandy?
No. I'm personally excited about a kid that UT's staff evaluated and took this early in the process whose video looks pretty good. I kind of doubted some of the reports of his speed but unless the 4A players he's up against in GA are just slow... he's fast.... and he's violent.

And why would you doubt that Lea knows talent? The fact that a lot of kids do NOT want to go to Vandy... doesn't mean that Lea doesn't know talent.

I thought arguing over dumb .ass **** was the American way.
Maybe. We are rich enough and privileged enough to argue over things others think are silly... which would include issues that some find very serious in the social and political realm.

I wasn’t trying to be a jerk, y’all. I’m happy for the kid and happy to have him. Timing just felt weird to me.
Timing is the reason for the commitment. We were willing to take him, even if we get Singleton and Spillman, coming out of the official visit so he was able to announce the commitment. He wanted to come here and we liked him enough to take him

What the crap?!? Composite 4*, with 25+ offers including 9 from SEC teams. Coaches clearly didn't see this as a reach, or they wouldn't have taken him this early. And we're mad because he listed Vandy as a finalist?!? You know it's a pretty good education there, right? I kinda like that. Suggests he thought the education was more important than NIL deals and Chargers. Maybe he's less of a mercenary.

Not all offers are committable. You don’t have Arkansas and Vandy in your top three if some of these schools are willing to take you.

I’ll climb back into my misery bunker now.

None of them obviously. He wants to bash the kid for no good reason at all... except that some of the recruiting sites have him as a 3*... so far.
Oh okay. I’m bashing the kid bc I’m speaking the truth. How many of these other elite players have Vandy and Arkansas in their top three?

Fwiw I’m fine with the commitment I just think it’s early given the other talent we’re in on at the position.
