I just can’t see CJH doing anything like that. He knows what he wants and plans to get the best players he can.Not gonna lie, and this may be the NegaVol coming out in me, but I hope we aren’t trying to string together several commits to keep up with Florida this last week. Probably wrong, this one just felt a little forced. Like we called and said “hey, we are ready to take you, are you in?” and he jumped at the chance.
You can criticize the recruiting strategy without being so snarky though. If you’d rather have the staff prioritize someone else then fine, that’s fair. You don’t have to backhand the player himself. He might be really good. These guys aren’t OVR ratings on a spreadsheet, they’re people. They also have families that read this occasionally, and I know you don’t care about that, it’s just a bit cringe to slam a kid who probably worked his tail off for this.Exceptions don’t invalidate arguments. Or at least, you’d be foolish to rely on them.
But I digress…. Maybe when I act like a two star poster, I’m the kind of two star poster with Vandy in my top 3 and I really want to be a Vol!
Fair?
It's funny anyway because Vandy and Arkansas had two of the best LBs in the SEC last year. Not quite, but you just invalidated your gripe.
Tillman had 4 offers from UNLV, Weber State, Hawaii, and Tennessee. So to act like you're acting over Burns picking the Vols over Arky and Vandy (ignoring dozens of other P5 offers) is dumb.
The kid wants to be a Vol. Who the hell cares as long as he balls out.
He's been one of the top LBs on our board for a long time. This has nothing to do with what anyone else was doing and more to do with three kids at that position that they evaluated as being takes, if they wanted to commit. We really only had 4 ILBs that have heavily been discussed in recruiting for us this year. Sammy Brown committed to Clemson and we have a really good chance to land the other three. The premise that we would only take two came from AP and crew. Not gonna lie, and this may be the NegaVol coming out in me, but I hope we aren’t trying to string together several commits to keep up with Florida this last week. FWIW Andrew Ivins of 247 said Burns had commitable offers from UF, USCw, Meatchicken, Auburn, OU, etc. Either way, we should not crap on a kid's commitment. Has this staff not done enough in the past several months to warrant some trust in who they pursue for the roster?
How many teams wanted Cedric Tillman?
Almost as many teams that wanted Kurott Garland, Brandon Davis, Jerrod Means, Kenny Solomon, Sean Brown etc etc etc.
Everyone brings up Tillman like it’s checkmate whenever a lower ranked kid with meh offers commits. Conveniently ignoring the countless examples of similarly ranked/offered kids who busted out.
It’s amazing how one gif has all the cheerleaders grabbing their pitchforks. Happens every time.
Burns might be great. He’s a Vol so I’ll root for him. But he said his final three were Tennessee, Arkansas, and Vamdy. You’re lying to yourself if you’re trying to convince people you wouldn’t trade him for a kid that UGA/Clemson/Alabama/OSU etc were heavily pursuing.
Sorry. I put my orange tinted glasses on and now realize what a big boy battle it was to steal this kid from the grips of Vandy and Arkansas! Just have to hope Mizzou don’t enter the fray!

Why is it such a big deal to question the pick up? I don’t know enough about him to have an opinion but it’s ok if you have an opinion.
Oct 8, 2022: He made the move to stand up and play a more traditional linebacker role in 2022 at a new high school. He now plays outside linebacker with speed and the ability to play the middle linebacker spot as well. Burns measured at 6-foot-1, 217 pounds with an 80-inch wingspan at multiple college camps in the summer.
Burns has exploded with good film and strong measurables...The college coaches have raved about the fast-rising linebacker. They’ve given him a lofty comparison. “They’ve been saying they like the way I play as a linebacker,” Burns told On3. “They like my explosiveness. They said they can use me at middle linebacker, outside linebacker and all those positions. I’m getting compared to Quay Walker, a bigger version of Nakobe Dean and Roquan Smith.”
2024 LB Jordan Burns likened to 'Nakobe Dean, Quay Walker'
That’s a southern Mississippi kind of take. Not gonna lie, and this may be the NegaVol coming out in me, but I hope we aren’t trying to string together several commits to keep up with Florida this last week.
