"Cam Sutton was a 3 star"

.....who had his best season as a freshman and was only marginally above average his remaining seasons at Tennessee. There’s a reason why Bama wins titles.....recruit and sign the most talented players in the country and coach em up better than most everybody else. Deal doesnt seem to work optimally unless you fulfill both parts of the equation.....coaching up good players won’t do it imo. We need much more physically talented players than we’ve had here in awhile save a handful of guys like Barnett and Kamara and now Smith. In short, we’ve gotta win recruiting battles with Bama, UGA, Auburn, Ohio State and Clemson to get our share of the same players they’re going after.

We won't consistently until we can prove we can coach up players and win. Well get a couple here and there (thank you Trey Smith) but we're not fishing in the same ponds right now.

I get that, but according to Pruitt himself, we better be going after the same exact players that UGA and Bama are going after.

He said same "exact"?

But on this kid. What don't you like about a 250 lb kid who has a 39" vertical and a 4.6 40 (if accurate) and those weight lifting numbers?

If he's playing out of position for the good of his team then that could be the primary thing keeping his rating low. Or... he could be a dud. Either way, the measurables are there and I kind of like that he's willing to sacrifice his recruiting publicity to help his team.

Not much I disagree with except for timing. I'm gonna let recruits see him coach at least 1 game first.

That's kind of the rub. If we lose to a good WVA team, the season starts out on a sour note. All of the sudden we have to beat a really good SEC team to clean the stain or prospects won't believe in what the staff is selling. Next thing you know we have back to back 20ish ranked classes and this staff is in a hole that they will never dig themselves out of.

If this kid played in a bigger town or for a bigger school he’d easily be a 4*. But because he’s from a small, South Georgia town with little exposure and playing out of position he hasn’t been properly rated.

I believe the first step is just showing good football, win or lose.
He's been telling all the recruits that we're not going to be very good this year.
They understand what they're actually watching for.

They beat WVa and we’ll hear about how much WVa sucks and this proves nothing.

That was literally what Chad Simmons was saying.

Expect even more bump after August.

I guess. I think this generation, much moreso than past ones, is wrapped up in the idea of the super team. These are the kids that watched what Lebron did in Miami and have watched NFL stars take less money to go get rings with the Patriots. I think that this staff has a very, very small window within which to convince top prospects that they are capable of winning championships and if they don't show something in year 1 they will just become another lost voice in the crowd to all but the most orange-blooded of in-state kids and legacies.

We also can’t compare Butch’s “diamonds” and Pruitt’s “diamonds”

Butch and his band of Big East misfits couldn’t identify an SEC talent if it smacked them in the head.

Pruitt and his goons have been recruiting SEC athletes for decades.

BVS is still strong. Sad how many people feel like they have to justify or defend this commit because of his ranking.

Torn on what to think. I understand the belief that Pruitt and staff are great evaluators and can find diamonds in the rough, but until he shows that, here at UT, people will question. Is it a good pick up? I hope so. I hope in a couple of years we can look back at this and this young man is a star on our roster. Still, it's a time will tell situation. We all want to win. Some are ready to jump all in and proclaim anything Pruitt does as greatness, and some remember the recent past and are withholding judgement. I desperately hope Pruitt is the answer UT needs. It'll be interesting to see who we land down the stretch, and where we end up in the recruiting rankings.
