'21 GA OT Amarius Mims (Georgia commit)

Wouldn't surprise me if Smart put him up to stringing our staff along. He's known to pull petty antics like that for big recruits to build up commitment drama.

Even more of a reason I hope Pruitt mops the field with that SOB tomorrow.

He hasn't committed yet.

We knew it would be a very tough pull from his home state.

If it is UGA we will continue to recruit hard, you never know.

So stop all the defeatist &^%$%^$
why are you acting like it's your first day around here?

I’d say it’s been impressive that he has made it into the field with line and depth we currently have..he has looked good too when in
There were a lot of guys rotating in due to lack of offseason/guys not being in game shape. I like how he's looked so far don't get me wrong, but at this point I wouldn't classify him as an elite OL signing.

Issue is on the outside as we aren't in on any elite OT's to plug and play after Wanya and Darnell are gone.

We need a true LT type in the this class to develop behind them next year.
I'm not arguing we dont need him, just saying that people writing off this past Oline class when they wont see the field for 1 or 2 years is absurd. The fact that Spraggins broke through already likely means he will be special.

I agree with this point. The OL we signed last cycle were talented but raw guys that need to be developed. The fact that Spraggins is in the two-deep with what coming into the season was already going to be a strength says something.

I think you're still missing his point. No one that we recruited on the offensive line in the 2020 class is an offensive tackle. That is the issue. Spraggins, Mays, and Robinson may all turn out to be fine players, but none of them play tackle. In the 2021 class, we have Gooch, Parker, and Smith. There are questions whether the first two have the quickness to play tackle and whether the third is any good, or not. There was even talk that if we landed Mims, that Smith might not be a take.

Not landing Mims will sting, for certain, and landing a true, elite OT (or 3) will have to priority #1 for 2022.

Between now and February I'm willing to bet we take 2, maybe 3. Tons of names pop up on the radar after the early signing day, also some guys may slim down and change positions. Sure the staff has a plan

This year is pretty unique, unfortunately. I'll get you won't see a ton of names pop up. Lots of schools aren't playing high school football, and there were no camps to pull evaluations from over the summer. This year, more than any, you need someone on staff that is very good at projecting talent, and unfortunately, OL may be the toughest position to project. I appreciate your optimism, but I also understand the concerns of other with regard to our current OL (tackle specifically) situation for future seasons beyond 2021.

that's fine. but we're two months out on ESD and 4 months out on NSD.

and we've still put our best foot forward with Mims....we're in it, til we're not.

as for the concern on the O line...i think we've done well the past two cycles, and we've got a couple in this one...and even if we don't get Mims, i can't see us not addressing that position.

i'll be curious to see what happens in the transfer market too....you never know what gems may pop up...you also never know what currently committed guys wind up flipping. if we have a season anywhere near what we hope to have, that could change things in our favor as well.

long story short...it's not over by a long shot....if we're sitting here they day after NSD w/out addressing OT, then i'll start to bite my nails. until then..................

Agree. That was Jamals come out party. Dude was the best running back in football as a freshman. I honestly prop up the Vols running backs admit it! But wow, dude could have been an NFL back sophomore year. Was my fav time ever watching the Vols, besides 1998

The decision not to start Jamal early in the season (especially against Florida) cost Manning a Heisman and cost Tennessee a shot at the 1997 NC.
