Heupel boat raced SC and Mizzou with a transfer QB, a JUCO RB, a WR that Jeremy Pruitt added on the last day, and 4/5 OL either playing out of Position or injured. If you're like me and think that the 2 most important group positions are OL and DL then KY had ALREADY passed us this year and we still beat them on the road. I think that JH knows that this staff isnt necessarily world beaters on the trail but it certainly beats Felton Shelton and that meathead Neidermayer coaching LBs that cant play.
I agree with this, but to the previous poster’s point…I'd rather that coach be developing top talent vs KY level recruiting classes.
I have more faith that A will happen. But I also thought that our strong season would lead more players here. That doesn't seem to be the case.I agree with this, but to the previous poster’s point…
What do you have more faith in, Heupel recruiting picking up as players see the development / on-field product get better, or a Butch type getting better on-field results with talent?
Recruits want to win games and get drafted. We’ve sucked at both of those for a while. If Heupel can do that, the recruits will come. Stoops has done exactly this at KY.
With the new era of NIL, wonder how much of not getting the "big recruits" is on the staff vs. the 'money' people? If someone flashes 6 digits $$$ in front of a 18yr old kids, school, coaches, & culture no longer become the main hurdle for these athletes. What can you do for me know becomes the new norm.
My opinion anyway.
I think two bad classes in a row plus losing portal players have badly impacted our roster. I think Ky, SC, and Mizzou are catching up with us in talent and we are getting further behind the top teams in the SEC. They can begin to change that in ‘23, but it’s naive to not see what’s happening here as a warning sign
But now kids will be able to "flaunt" the money and what they got. I know it has always been done in the past but now is a totally different element. I could easily be wrong and probably am, but I think this changes the entire dynamic of how recruiting will be done going forward for the "5*" recruits. A HS kid can come in and be a millionaire by the time they leave college and openly brag about it, it's not about coaching or development anymore. Who has the deepest pockets and best resources. This is nothing new. Condredge flew to Knoxville from Alabama but drove himself to campus in his new car. We've always played the game.... we're just getting beat at it right now.
We had a lot more working against us than we did working for us. The NCAA cloud, being behind on NIL, a first-year staff used to recruiting at a lower tier so they have very little relationship with higher tier recruits, our history the past 10-15 years... There is a lot that needs fixing. Too much to really overcome this cycle. Hopefully we see improvement next cycle. All Heupel can really do is continue to succeed on the field. Our money guys need to catch up and compete on NIL, and DW needs to push to get the NCAA issues all squared away. If these things happen and we continue to struggle in recruiting, then we might have cause for concern. Right now, we just roll with the punches.I have more faith that A will happen. But I also thought that our strong season would lead more players here. That doesn't seem to be the case.
Neither them nor their Daddy has seen UGA win a NC.
