I want to see this staff land highly rated defenders. I’m less concerned about the ratings of offensive recruits because I think Heupel’s system/fit matters more on that side. He’ll take 3*s (and some 2*s, see: Tillman, Cedric) and mold them into highly productive players on the offensive side of the ball. But you gotta have athletes on defense.

yeah we need more quality linebackers and defensive backs though. It's clear garners gonna get and develop the d-line but we're gonna need help on the back end

I agree.

Hopefully we see some elite OL, interior DL, LBs, and secondary guys this cycle.

Like you, not worried about offensive skill guys...though the more the merrier. But defensive talent is absolutely required. There's no defensive scheme to-date that can overcome lack of talent.

To a point I agree with that last statement. I think it is far more rare for scheme to overcome talent on defense but over the years we’ve had a few coaches pull it off.

I thought Monte’s defense over performed their talent level. Same with Wilcox. And as bad as it was at times, an argument could be made for Banks

I agree we do need all the elite D talent we can get so we can score 60 to 70 points a game through the 3rd quarter. A good defense not an elite one for us is the same as a elite one because of our offense. I don't think we have even begin to see what this football team can do. GO VOLS
