GA Tech recruiting rankings

Motivation and a unique offense with a very good QB go a long way in college football.

They also lost to a 7 loss UNC team. Who can explain this?

GT turned the ball over a lot,UNC got a huge lead and GT fell short in coming back.

A highly effective offensive scheme, and lots and lots and lots of cheap-@$$ cut blocking.

Reminds me of that year Wake Forest went 10-2 or so. Ton of 5yr Srs and upperclassmen. Not to say GT is traditionally as week as WF btw.

I remember a 9-3 GT team coached by Chan Gailey with Calvin Johnson losing to that WF team 9-6 in the 2006 ACCCG. I messed most of that game because i was on a date.

I think they play a disciplined style of ball where they do what they do very efficiently. Keep the ball and grind it out.

It's especially tough to plan for the option in a week when you don't see it much anymore/have to plan for it, as a coach these days.

I'm guessing their guys are also a bit smarter than average? I know theyre athletes, but I'd imagine GTech requiring decent academics to enter anyway

A guy that lives here in Murphy was Paul's roommate in college. He said he's a heck of a good guy.

Didn't play college football. Got a degree PE I believe from Western Carolina

Missouri is in a similar boat with GaTech wrt recruiting:
2009= 34
2010= 22
2011= 57
2012= 31
2013= 43
2014= 39
And we all know who won the SEC east the last two years.

Now it's the Vols turn to start kicking butt.

Paul Johnson gets more out of less talent than any coach around! In an option offense you don't need as many highly ranked linemen,running backs,quarterbacks or recievers. The fly in the ointment is defenses aren't great a lot of the time.

Surprised Vanderbilt hasn't thought of trying it. They'll never have the athletes that the rest of the SEC gets so they have to try to bridge the gap through scheme. They'll have to can Doofus Mason first, though.

Vandy did that under Gerry Dinardo but it didn't help them.

All rivals rankings. That is the team that just went 2-0 vs SEC this season. Probably would have won the East. Who can explain this?

If you look at the teams that beat LSU, & blew out Ole Missy, & Missed Out St. they all had those athletic dual threat Qb's. They are just so hard to defend especially on 3rd down. All 4 of the teams in playoff's have those athletic mobile Qb's. :good!::eek:k::clapping:

Happy New Year Volnation!!!!!!

One thing is their head coach has been there for a while. He has got players in to GT that fits his system.

Don't forget that Paul Johnson saved his job this year. GT fans wanted to run him out of town on a rail and really doubted what he was accomplishing most of the year. They are happy now of course.

The conclusion Paul Johnson (and Mullen, and Pinkel, and Cutcliffe) should lead us to draw is that if you give a good coach time, they will be successful.

But alas there are certain loud elements of our fanbase that never understand this.

You're not suggesting that Paul Johnson refused to fire his preferred coaches to suit know-it-all fans...did it his way and won , and those fans are now pounding sand?...Are you? :huh:

They are much better this year because they now have a QB who exceptional for his system; a ver fast-quick runner who can also accurately throw the ball, both long and short. Their defense is also better than in the past. They have a very good team this year and I expect they will for the next two-three years.

But, but ... I thought you had to throw the ball 50 times a game in this "modern era" of football.

Final scores 59-57 :lame:

I'm tickled to see the success of GT. I love the option offense and was a huge fan of Fisher Deberry at Air Force.

This takes me back to earlier times when the game was more of a team effort and you didn't need the superstar QB and WR getting all the attention.

Smash mouth football, great defenses and a sound kicking game have won many championships over the years. Paul Johnson is proving it's still doable and the media is loving it

And yet there they were in the Orange Bowl tonight absolutely taking it to an SEC team that was ranked #1 at one point this year.....hmmm.

They deserve credit. Tech has a way though of looking great and then wetting the bed against somebody like NC State or BC.

What anybody with any sense knows. It's impossible to rate thousands of high school kids who play different levels of competition. If the pros often get it wrong with unlimited access, how do these charlatans get it right? They don't....
