I have no doubt that they put a higher grade on Means than 247/rivals, and I trust their grading more than I would 247/rivals, but to say that he had no clue what Means was ranked low on 247/rivals before yesterday is nonsense. They knew. Why lie? Just come and say 247/rivals are wrong, and that they grade the kid way higher.

But patience is lost on VN most of the time. Higher rated Josh Malone was a mediocre at best WR until his last season when he blossomed and was drafted. He has the physical attributes. Under-rated guys tend to work harder and with a position coach like CDJ he will probably do really good things. VN negas will then be all, yeah, i knew that would happen. ;)

the only good news is that this kid has camped here, so they've seen him live and in person, and done their own evaluation.

the at least know what they're getting.

but he is a back up plan.

People see Bama and their 5 stars.
But what about West Virginia and their 2 and 3 stars?
I'm pretty sure they kicked the crap out of us just as bad....
Can say the same for Mizzou.

They're legitimately excited about this kid. The staff is. This is a staff that's been around Julio Jones Amari Cooper Kelvin Benjamin Anthony Miller, etc...

It's okay to not be excited...because you see Bama and UGA and all their stars and think thats what need get where they are. And it's true...but the deeper truth is that they get a higher ratio of obviously talented players. Obviously talented. The ones coaches and internet ranking scouts easily agree on.
And are Therefor ranked high.

They're getting the right 5 star and 4 stars.
And schools like West Virgina have an identity and recruits to their need schematically.

Ever wonder why recruits like this have their threads blow up and when we get a 4-5 star it’s crickets.

Well, it gives the Einstein’s an opportunity to be smarter than the coaches. We’re a 5-7 team that won some we shouldn’t have and lost some we shouldn’t have and we’re sitting on a top 20 class. The coaches are obviously after the best available right? I mean they’re the ones with their ass on the line.

Im excited about Means, always love these type of players if they put in the work!

Guys look, in this class we got some upgrades and building blocks. There is definitely going to be improvement overall. It appears to me that Pruitt is recruiting players that he can use at multiple positions. He doesn't know exactly where they will all fit in yet but it's his job to make it a cohesive unit.

The guy is doing his best to get the best that he can here. I think we will be pleasantly surprised next season. Huge improvement was already made in the "injury" department. From reports I heard on this forum he had a culture to change and maybe some resistance.

Some things I was disappointed in this past season. I am as tough on Pruitt as anyone. He made mistakes this season as a head coach as should have been expected and he also learned from them. The guy was probably as heart broke as we were that his team was unable to win and get in a bowl game but as we heard reported some of the players felt it did not benefit them to get extra practices and go to a meager bowl game.

There are head winds Pruitt and staff have had to fight through this season and the recruiting season isn't over yet. GO VOLS !!!!!!!!

Nah man, South Carolina was the only game we loss that we had a chance in, all the other games were straight up beat downs

All this hand wringing over JM makes no difference at all. Barring any unforseen circumstances he will be part of this team. I don't give a sh!t about how many stars he has. All I care about is if he is a 'warrior', can he get seperation and can he catch.. If he can check those boxes we're good...

I have heard it said that the recruiting sites are strictly retail...just for fans...and that there is an entirely different scouting structure out there for the schools. They may legitimately not have known what a retail site said, but what does it matter? His job is to find quality players, not read websites.

Still love the kid myself. Top 200 in GA, good size came to Knoxville and impressed at camp when other prospects wouldn't even make the trip. Ran a sub 12 second 100m outdoors in 2017. Which is fast for a damn HS Junior. Fastest 100m in GA by a HS is 10.19 by Tyreek Hill. His profile says 4.6, but it's been reported he ran 4.4 in person. CDJ is a fantastic WR coach, so I ain't worried at all.


He's a solid 3 star kid who is hungry and wants to be here...all that matters now is what he does at UT.

He's smaller than one WR that played meaningful snaps last year (Jennings) and has 4.4 speed. I know we've all been burned with the diamond-in-the-rough bit, but those kids being meaningful contributors is contingent on development. The last staff failed at that, so of course selling lowly rated kids as hidden gems never panned out. The guys on this staff are teachers. I actually feel just fine about handing this kid off to Coach YAC. He's going to be fine.

Tillman will probably see the field a good bit this year, too. He and Means are almost exactly the same size. I'm just not worried about the WR room.

Is he a reach because you know this for a fact or because 247/Rivals/etc say he is a 3 star. Are these the same guys who ranked Khalil Mack, TY Hilton, Aaron Rogers, Mike Evans and Antonio Brown to name a few (to save you the work all of these players were 3 and 2 stars)? Not saying Means is going to be an NFL all-star but no one knows. 26 3 stars were on the NFL Pro Bowl roster so again we will see how it works out.

6 3* players showing for this class and guys wanted to rip on this kid because some posters get carried away and have people believing we whiffed on so many 4 and 5 star players without trying to be realistic at all. Then when the rubber meets the road they disappear or lay low. I don't care who your screen name is.

Not all did that though. Some pushed back. But many insiders tried to shut them down. When the board went haywire as the first of ESD came and went and they saw it was mostly hype they can't come in now and put a plug in for the kid.

As I said we now have as of today 6 3* players showing for the 2019 class. Who is ripping on 3* Elijah Simmons who I love as a player among the other highly thought of 3* recruits. What happened to their 4 or 5* replacements. I still think some of those guys need to come in on this guys thread and make it right. They get a mob started then this is the type of thing that happens. Thankfully there are some serious and realistic minds out there still.

They can call out the stinky attitude of some of our players but theirs are even worse and then shows up in a players threads....GO VOLS !!!!!!
