Ever wonder why recruits like this have their threads blow up and when we get a 4-5 star it’s crickets.

Well, it gives the Einstein’s an opportunity to be smarter than the coaches. We’re a 5-7 team that won some we shouldn’t have and lost some we shouldn’t have and we’re sitting on a top 20 class. The coaches are obviously after the best available right? I mean they’re the ones with their ass on the line.

Im excited about Means, always love these type of players if they put in the work!

Every time I see a kid getting bashed about his star ranking I envision him making the game winning play against one of our rivals.

I have heard it said that the recruiting sites are strictly retail...just for fans...and that there is an entirely different scouting structure out there for the schools. They may legitimately not have known what a retail site said, but what does it matter? His job is to find quality players, not read websites.

I'm sure (and hope) there are different scouting structures for real programs vs the retail sites, my only qualm is why the asst player personnel guy had to come out and fib about knowing about this kid's ranking on the retail sites. It's disingenuous to act like they didn't know the kid was rated where he is on the retail sites. With that said, you're right it really doesn't matter - I guess I just find it interesting that the player personnel staff must feel a little bit nervous about fan reaction for taking a guy rated low on the retail sites (enough so that he would come out publicly on twitter with a fib about not knowing about the guy's rating). If it were me in his shoes, and I felt the need to come out publicly about this situation, I would have said "The player personnel staff feels like we got a real steal with Means based on where the retail sites have him graded, as our scouting evaluation put him very very high on our board and we're thrilled we landed him." That's a much better narrative than pretending like you never look at the retail sites -- I think that makes them look lazy. JMO.

In any event, I'm real excited about this kid.

Yeah, I kept reading it and first assumed you meant Jennings.

One thing that I think negafans are missing about Means is the staff had him here, face to face. So when they say he's 6'2" and 215 running 4.4s it means a hell of a lot more than old data on a recruiting site with thousands of profiles being populated.


UT offered 480ish kids so they had a lot less players to evaluate than the recruiting sites, with dedicated funds & staff/coaches to do it with. I have listened to Hubbs & staff talk enough to realize coaches evaluations are a lot more thorough than any of the websites out there.

Nervous? That's not what I see. I see the guy either defending a kid that stargazers are bashing (Thanks guys. Classy.) or gloating that they found and signed a legit 4.43 guy that nobody else was in on.

He worked out for the coaches on 3 occasions. I'm sure they were coaching him. That gave them the opportunity to determine whether a) he can be coached, and b) whether he has potential. People will be stupid...just cause...but they took him on ESD because they wanted him. Pruitt has not shown a single inkling of give-a-d@mn about what fans think. Pretty sure that applies here.

I understand the negativity, and I understand full well BVS. However, what I will never understand is the tripping and falling over oneself to rush in here to crap all over the Vols, every chance they get; yet, they will do the same, trip and fall all over themselves, to rush in here to take up and prop up UGA or UF, or...anyone, it seems, that doesn't have a power T on the side of their helmet...that's what I will never understand. Just think, as a Vol fan, not being able to trash the dawgs or gators, without another Vol "fan" rushing to their defense. It's pathetic.

Def agree with you on the bolded part. As as I said, I'm real excited about this kid. And if we hit on another WR still on the board, then this kid has the athleticism to move over to defense too, if needed. A true ATH that can be molded.

6 3* players showing for this class and guys wanted to rip on this kid because some posters get carried away and have people believing we whiffed on so many 4 and 5 star players without trying to be realistic at all. Then when the rubber meets the road they disappear or lay low. I don't care who your screen name is.

Not all did that though. Some pushed back. But many insiders tried to shut them down. When the board went haywire as the first of ESD came and went and they saw it was mostly hype they can't come in now and put a plug in for the kid.

As I said we now have as of today 6 3* players showing for the 2019 class. Who is ripping on 3* Elijah Simmons who I love as a player among the other highly thought of 3* recruits. What happened to their 4 or 5* replacements. I still think some of those guys need to come in on this guys thread and make it right. They get a mob started then this is the type of thing that happens. Thankfully there are some serious and realistic minds out there still.

They can call out the stinky attitude of some of our players but theirs are even worse and then shows up in a players threads....GO VOLS !!!!!!

I don't hate this pick up, so don't take this as hating on Means. but he is an 82, all our other 3*s are 86s. he is not nationally ranked, all our others are. even at his position he is 216, all our other players are at worst number 68 at their position. This is a huge step in difference in rating between just saying all 3* are equal.

also those other 3* have been ours for a while, People were expecting a major surprise, or at least 4 star on one site. instead what we got was our lowest rated recruit by a large margin.

I think its fair for people to be disappointed. No fault of Means, I think the backlash against Means is just collateral damage.

Not that anyone is losing sleep over your skepticism, but he ran a 11.6 100m as a JV freshman at the Atlanta Games Invitational, which is just about a second over Olympic qualifying time in the event.

he camped here in the summer. i'm not going to tell you to get pumped cause of this kid. but they aren't taking this kid sight unseen. they know what they're getting.
