'24 GA WR Mike Matthews (Tennessee)

He might turn out to be correct, but two years later lol

But here's the thing about JG, if Joe Milton balls out and is a first round draft pick, it means the man is a qb savant!

I guess all I'm really saying is I have zero doubt that jg would have been better under this coach. I think more than anything else, heupel understands more than almost anyone else in the game how to draw the most out of the most important position on the field. I think he's a genius.

Post snap reads and throwing on time are requisites for Heupel’s O. Not curious at all. Pretty sure it would have been worse except he probably wouldn’t have started

Questionable. See you are assuming because of who he played under. He received zero QB coaching his whole time at TN. You are making the mistake of thinking players can’t improve.

Pure and utter BS. I believe he had 3 or 4 QB coaches with success elsewhere with other QBs. He had a private QB coach while he was at UT. He went to Manning Academy. He had a couple of OC's with at least some success elsewhere. Few players have gotten more focused position coaching than JG.

I don't hate him and never did. I feel bad that he put in that much effort but couldn't get it right between his ears. There was something in his head that didn't click... and very little of it had to do with coaching. There just seemed to be something lacking in his ability to process and anticipate.

I'm not making the mistake of believing players cannot improve. That's you trying to build a straw man. Some can a lot. Most can some. A few don't improve much.

He improved physically. He put a ton of effort into the mental side. He improved some things but he had critical flaws that plagued him from the time he stepped on the field until he left.

Seems QBs with those type of issues somehow figure it out under Heupel. . .
Honestly. I think JG was somewhat unique in that regard. Some claim he didn't get "coaching". Who has ever gotten more? Maybe Heupel would have had the magic potion JG needed... but I suspect he would have been beaten out.

Even 2021 heupel thought Joe Milton was the better choice over Hooker. The man is a great coach, not infallible. But JG probably would have had his talents maximized under heupel
Didn't say he was infallible... and in fact I doubt he had whatever "magic" it would have taken to overcome JG's issues. They tried to simplify the O for him. He had 3 or 4 different QB coaches with reasonably good resumes. A couple or three OC's with reasonably good histories with QBs. He had a private coach for a while. He went to things like the Manning Academy MANY different coaches tried to help him through his issues.

As for Milton, he earned it in practice. Everyone given the chance to see practice said he won the job and most said it wasn't close. He started BGSU then got nicked up a little in the next game then Hooker got his shot. Milton was available the next week iirc. They were already considering a change or else he would have been back in.
