'24 GA WR Mike Matthews (Tennessee)

In practice Joe was the better player, but Hendon was a gamer. So technically he did choose right

This would make an enormous amount of sense if games were decided based on who performed better in practice and not in games. This is also what would have gotten pruitt fired if the infractions never came into play.

The fact of the matter is he had two flawed qbs who transferred for losing starting jobs due to performance issues and has seemed to maximize their potential, which is awesome and was also my point

I’m optimistic about Joe, I’d just like to see him use his freak size/ability and run over folks. To my untrained eye, he looks unsure of himself running sometimes. Like bro, you are huge and athletic af, lay him out!

With the lack of experience at #2 EARLY ON I would guess his runs will be restricted Except in critical down and distance situations in close games. Don’t see a lot of 1st down QB draws until Nico has some mileage on him.

I just don’t see how they could’ve thought Milton was better unless the pass rush was virtually non existent. Even if he’s perfect on his deep balls he doesn’t process things a quickly as Hooker did and isn’t as decisive. He at least wasn’t against Vanderbilt and Clemson. I personally think the Ole Miss game is still stuck in his head and he’s not as quick to take off and make a 5-6 yard run and waits just a little too long for someone to get open down field. I hope we call a lot of designed runs for him early and often this season to get him in the rhythm of running. He seemed very hesitant to do so against Vandy and Clemson when the first couple of reads weren’t there. He would scramble laterally just behind the LOS instead of getting down field and taking what the defense gave him. With a new OL this year he’s going to have to improvise more like Hooker did
Everyone that saw them practice thought Joe was the guy…. Hooker didn’t really start performing at an elite level until his 3rd game…. He really took off after that.

Likely because Heup did not want to have to go to Tayven Jackson so they may have told Joe to limit the runs if possible… all speculation but red jerseys in practice give Qbs a comfort level you can not get in a live game… even if pass rush is elite in practice he knows he won’t get hit and can play alot more stress free… if joe is comfortable and hitting throws there is not a Qb in the nation that can beat him out in a practice only setting… I believe the years under hendon helped him tremendously also this will be year 3 in the system he will have complete command and comfort and play lights out for us this season…

It be nice if Matthews would go ahead and commit to the good guys so the other receivers may follow or be more likely to follow and want to play with him
Staley will likely come off the board first this Friday. Then I expect fireworks throughout the whole month of July. I'm no insider. Just gut feeling and speculation.

I will defend Ol Peahead with my life.

He’s legit.
Timing is always the hardest to predict, it’s very fluid. Kids that don’t set specific dates can pop anytime or push back. In the end it’s about him being a Vol, and that is locked up. I still think it’s sooner than AP says. Kid is ready to go, decision made.
