Game Thread: (12/8) Lady Vols 64 - Alabama 74

Losing to both Auburn who still only has 1 SEC win so far, and now Bama who lost 8 of 10 before this game to bottom feeders Aubirn and Vandy. There is legit reasons to be concerned. Horston before the injury didn't even seem to know the LV had a game to play. That's not hating, Kellie has lost this team.
Seems that they are playing very differently on the road vs. at home. They looked a lot better against Mizzou a few games back. Either Abrams or Davis missed most of the last Bama-Tenn game, so it's hard to compare this to the previous matchup. But the defense is just not where it used to be, and it seems that the team isn't playing like a team anymore.

Suggesting Kellie fire Jon is just crazy. It’ll never happen so move on.
We can revisit at the end of the season. I'm sure there will be self reflections and evaluations of the staff. Right now he's 140K+ and not showing up on the court or in the recruiting cycles. I get he's trusted as he should and it would be a hard choice if it came to that. If we want to get back on top Coach may have to make some tough decisions or they could be made for her.

Kellie. Isn’t playing she’s coaching. She’s doing a heck of a job considering she is only in year 3. We barely had more than 20 wins in a season when Holly was coach. In my opinion she’s doing it with less rated talent. Also the lady vols actually play well together and like each other. Holly’s teams never got along. No real sense of camaraderie either. Our teams didn’t even compete in big games until Kellie took over. How quickly do we forget how much this team has progressed under Kellie Harper.
Lmao....Holly had seasons of 30, 29, 27, and 25 wins and got to 3 Elite Eights. She also could actually recruit. I wasnt a big fan of Warlick...but to act like Harper is a step up from her is idiotic.

Bama had maybe 50 fans at the game. It wasn’t anything remotely close to an intimidating road atmosphere. But you can bet Sunday will be.

So, you are saying the AD would tell the HC she has to fire her husband? Not happening. When you hire a husband/wife team it comes as a package deal and stays that way.

I wanted Holly fired at least 2 years before it happened, but had I known we were going to settle for Kellie, I would’ve said save the buyout money and just keep Holly.

She would still be here if her last three seasons hadn't been so horrible and all the culture problems she was having. I think the same goes for Harper she has to step it up next two or three seasons. She has improved where Holly was quite a bit in the last three seasons now up to her to get it to a different level from where it has progressed. Holly was 24 and 24 in the SEC her last three seasons. Kellie has went 29 and 13 thus far in her third season.

I think Kelley would have been a nice addition under Holly. I’m not a Holly fan myself but those numbers don’t lie. And the fact the best players are holdovers is telling.

AD has loyalty to the school, not the marriage. Under your terms of the contract and nepotism then both go if one goes. I see Kelley staying but I could be wrong. If your turnover is 1-2 a year and things aren’t changing it’s the ones staying. It takes care of itself eventually. Another reason to not hire family.

Rooster, you do realize that you're talking to people who never wanted Kellie here in the first place and wanted her gone immediately...so much so that they trash not just her but also the players and even Pat.

There are legitimate conversations to be had about reasonable expectations for any and all coaching staffs, but those legitimate conversations usually take place among objective observers.

Hmm Rick Barnes last three SEC seasons 30 and 19 NCAA one and done and no tourney. Kellie Harper last three SEC seasons 29 and 13 Ncaa 32 and no tourney. Guess we needed to save that five million on Barnes as well he has done a little worse than Kellie in the last three seasons and he has been established for 8 years. He does have the one SEC title Kellie has five seasons to match that. Plus no one is getting fired this season anyone believes that coach or Assistants not going to happen is laughable to bring it up. I am laughing right now that it has even been mentioned.

The bar is higher for a Lady Vols coach. In the men’s program, just making the tournament is usually good enough to keep your job. That’s not the case when you’re coaching the winningest program in women’s basketball. Holly made the tournament every year and got fired.

Evidently it is not since she has a four year contract not including this season. Looks like the University is well invested in her and expect she will get another extension for finishing in the top four of the SEC this season. We'll see who is right when all is said and done. AD has a lot more patience than some fans.

Danny White fired our women’s golf coach last year. He won’t give Kellie a long leash if she doesn’t earn it.

Many of us failed to realize the value of Green, and now perhaps the loss of Horston. We can be upset with the coaches or bad mouth the players, however, it is time to show compassion and to realize the season is not headed in the direction we had hoped for. KJH should immediately be hitting the portal and Jr. college for players who have the ability to be impact players for next year. Right now the team seems to be a hot mess trending towards a dumpster fire. However, we should still back the ladies and the coaches.

She has earned it in the first three seasons only one SEC coach that has a better record over three seasons than Kellie has and that is Dawn Staley. I'm going to be laughing when she gets a raise and extension after this season. Having to deal with injuries to key players and still finishing in the top four is going to be considered a terrific job by both the AD and most intelligent fans.

She already got an extension last year. She won’t be getting another one.

It is mind boggling that an 18-1 team can fall off of a cliff like this. These four defeats since the 19th game have been blowouts vs both a national power and SEC also-rans. All have been away games. This is not the MO of a solidly contstructed 18-1 team. How to explain it?

I think Kellie simply did a masterful job of hiding her team's weaknesses through the first 19 games, then opposing coaches started exploiting and exposing weaknesses: 1) lack of overall team speed and quickness, 2) poor shooting and poor FT shooting, 3) lack of a true PG of SEC quality, and 4) guards that cannot defend 1 on 1.

The injury bug has also hit us, and hard, but I don't think that's the explanation for imploding like this. It was very troubling to see the team not focused or ready to play last night, when there is so much to play for. Kellie is the one who said that. It's not a good sign, and it is on Kellie to prepare her team better than that. I can only assign the lack of focus and readiness on the coach. I can think of no other reason. She needs to resolve whatever is going on there.

But now we're exposed, and we're without Jordy. I don't see a good ending to the season. I'll still be rooting hard for them. I hope I'm wrong in my pessimism for the rest of the year.

My thoughts are already going to next season, when Pissott will arrive. Hopefully, Kellie will shore up weaknesses through the portal and we can get back on track.

Ive been reading through the comments and my opinion on whats going on with this team isnt so much a chemistry issue. Its a lack of talent issue. Talent doesnt always come with star ratings or player rankings. Talent doesnt always tell the basketball IQ. Point guard is a major issue. Walker has one game where she looks good but then has 5 bad games in a row. Miles is a freshman and plays like it. Darby is a great shooter but lacks the athletic ability to go find her own shot other than a set three. Horston is the big mystery. I noticed last night early on she wasnt going to have a good game. She turned the ball over and barely jogged back on defense. The girl missed the layup and she could have easily made up for the turnover by rebounding the ball but she wasnt there to do it. Barely had crossed half court. Praying her injury isnt major or season ending. Rae is starting to look better. But a ways to go to be a WNBA player. She still tends to play a step to fast. Key im sorry but she is 6'6 but plays 5'6. She has got to quit bringing the ball down to her waist on those spin moves to the basket. The loss of Green was huge. But if they dont get some recruiting wins this is going to be the norm in Knoxville. The game last night i thought was a trap game. Should have been an easy 15 point win. But no energy to start the game. Playing in front of a pickup city park crowd doesnt help. The turnovers are the major issue with this team and have been for many years now. Holly never got them corrected. I love the Lady Vols but they have either got to get the turnovers corrected or the season has ended. If they stay within 20 of SC i will be shocked.
