Game Thread: (13/10) Lady Vols 66 - Vanderbilt 52

Obvious that Rae Burrell's balance is off slightly. Not like she was last season injury still somewhat of a problem.

Much better game from her tonight though. She played within the concept of the team most of the game. Only had a play or two that she over played her hand. If her 3 ball had dropped as well as it normally does she would have had an outstanding game. She missed 2-3 wide open ones you know she wants back.

Good summary
She made more of the difference in a good way today

If Key played as big on offense as she does on defense she’d be “All-everything“. Yes, she gets mauled some, but too often brings the ball down, or just loses control of the ball.

if she’d just keep the ball high and turn and shoot off of her wrists she would average 20 a game. She has the length to shoot over most teams.

She won't listen to us fans. We've said this for 2 years straight at least.
Better yet, I bet she's been told that more than we can count.

Vandy is a hard team to play when the Refs don't call all the illegal things they do on the court. If they could shoot a lick they would be dangerous when they get a crew that doesn't call their moving screens , grabs, hold etc. She is teaching them the UConn way guess they have a manual of what how many times you can get away with doing the same illegal thing.

Horston had another double double. Simply a great player! Top three in SEC when looking at her entire game. However, the winning play goes to Pucket who made a three at a critical juncture in the second quarter. She scored two other possessions after Key left with two fouls. Pucket had a very good game and provided the play that was the gut punch for Vanderbilt.

She was doing that more early in the season and then last few games is bringing it down to shoot and here comes the hands of the smaller players. She is in a huge slump right now coaches don't seem to be helping her get out of it.

Just some speculation --- I have often wondered if TK has small and/or weak hands because she gets stripped a lot (not even mentioning bringing the ball down in the first place). Perhaps her project for the summer could be strengthening her hands and forearms.

She was better about that to start the season.

Georgia loss today means we can't finish any lower in the league than fifth. A win at Bama and an Ole Miss loss puts us in the top four in the league. We win 3 of next four were either second or third depending on how Florida finishes. We win all four were at least partly league champions no matter what anyone else does.

I don't believe complaining about officiating is productive. Teams that lose usually point to officials as the reason. Coach Fulmer (who I don't remember complaining), once said bad calls equal out over a long game.

However, one of the most egregious fouls I have seen called was the second foul on Dye, in the first quarter. She had an open lane to score and drove to the basket. Two Vanderbilt players tried to cut her off. Neither Vanderbilt player got in position to take a charge, they didn't even get in front of Dye. They reached and struck Dye on both arms and knocked her to the floor. Charge was the call. Incredible!

Dye was playing well. The bad call put Dye on the bench and changed the dynamic of the game. This call was part of the reason Pucket's play was so important.

Well today I have only one comment : the season is just about over and I thought by this time in the season there would be a vast improvement in turnovers .....but I was wrong .
