Game Thread: #13/10 LSU (23-4, 10-3) @ Tennessee (16-9, 9-4 SEC) 2/25/24 12:00 pm EST ESPN

They set lots of screens for Jewel. She's just a streaky 3 shooter and doesn't finish at the rim as well against better teams.

I wish they'd look for 3s for Sara more in those situations.
I still believe in Spear because I know she has what it takes, i do trust Sara to make open 3’s, I wouldn’t mind getting her more shots in those situations.

I think the decision making is part of the talent gap. And decision making gets alot tougher when a big offensive option (JS) disappears and allows them to smother the best offensive option.

I see it differently. Kellie literally went to the portal and got a D2 point guard from Belmont in Destinee Wells, and many were considering her an upgrade at the PG spot who would be the eventual stater. When she committed, the common sentiment here was “this should solve the PG issues.” Brooklyn Miles was also a top-50 ranked recruit in the 2021 class…….

Also, Jordan Horston. As impactful as she was, her decision-making was questionable her entire career. She often lead the team in turnovers. But Kellie had to play her because she was valuable in so many other ways.

Also, Holly Warlick didn’t have an issue recruiting elite talent, but more times than not the product was poor and decision making// low IQ-play was a big part of that.

Just 11 turnovers. Rebounding almost even. We hold Reese, Morrow, and FJ to a combined 28 pts. An outstanding post D plan. How in the world do we lose this game? So frustrating. Just horrid shooting from start to finish, that's pretty much the story.

Poor JP. No one feels worse than her I know, except perhaps Jewel. We knew this would happen to JP at some point. She's been playing at the very top of her ceiling for a long time. Hate to hear people say she's selfish, doesn't care, whatever. She played very, very poorly today but no one plays harder. Last Sunday at this time Rickea was using her SEC network walk off interview to sing the praises of JP, how poised she stays etc. Yikes! Today not so much. Really took us out of any chance to complete the comeback. The big surprise to me was that she also couldn't guard freakin HVL. Who naturally had the game of her lifetime, will never shoot like that again.

Guess what? JP will be our starting pg the next game and the rest of the season. She's what we have. Not sure why Kaiya didn't play more but she didn't play very well when she was in and also couldn't guard HVL. I think JP just kind of paniced, plus as some have said, most of the shots she took were decent shoots. Except that quick 3 when we cut it to 1.

Poor Jewel. Got work to do to play against elite level teams. Honestly, when we're listing slowfooted players who can't guard? Count Jewel. I still think Jewel can be really good, but she needs a summer of intense training. And she can still be very good for us against certain teams this year.

Rickea shot poorly again, and once it was established we had no 3 pt presence, they just draped over her the fourth qtr. She had a good all round game, 9 rebs 2 asst and doubled her whole season block total w 2 blocks. The one on AR lifted my spirits, a little. We missed RJ in the post several times in the 4th after she had battled Morrow mightily for position. Thought RJ did a very good job on both Morrow and AR on D. Also sure RJ will be the first one to JP's side.

Sara is just so solid, had a very good game. We have to get her more shots, find her when she's open. Tess contributed, I didn't mind her minutes at all bc Jewel was giving nothing. Also thought Jill had good mins as did TK. AR struggled w TK's size. But dang TK's hands of stone . . .

I didn't think this was on KJH at all, except maybe leaving JP in too long but the game was already over. We plain and simple didn't hit shots. And didn't get Rickea enough shots. We have to go beat TAM.
try edia; she just might surprise us

Has KJH ever gotten a technical? I can't remember one, but would have loved to have seen one there. Also I think the ball off the ref in the first half might have been a miss too. The ref was out of bounds when it contacted her.

I feel like there was one last season but I can’t recall the situation. She’s too “poised” for that. I honestly hate that word at this point.

The word Poise will always make me think of period pads anyway. That was every other commercial when I was a kid. Dannon Activia yogurt, poise pads and brawny paper towels 😂

Even after Wells I one of the people that said we still need to find a starter, I didn’t like the idea of having 3 Pg’s that are 5’6 and smaller. Hopefully we can get what we need this portal period.

To be fair Belmont is D1. Gave Tennessee all they wanted in Knoxville 21/22 NCAAT

No, Belmont is D2 bc he said so. Remember, no facts, no truth.

Ya'll know what we need? More turnovers. We almost never win when we keep the t.o.s low. Only had 11 today.
My point still stands :)

JP came from a P5 conference; DW did not. DW was considered an upgrade at the PG spot.

Never argue that Powell missed many shots but name me a guard who can create on this roster the rest get there shots blocked and can never get around any one. Wynn sure she is an athlete but doesn't have much basketball skill at all. In CHRIST Alone
Edia has the mental & athletic ability

We all know what the problem is, now is the time to fix it and it’s all on DW to do it. If not never going to change.
Believe the SC game will speak volumes. CKH needs a competitive game for a moral win, a blowout only causes more noise for her to be let go.

Right. But we don't have her. We only have JP and whatever Kaiya can contribute.

It is true what someone said the other day, we haven't had a truly elite point guard in a long, long time. Many who coulda, shoulda, Evina, Annie Hayes, etc, etc,

Didn’t get to watch the game today. Obviously a missed opportunity coming off three consecutive games where the ladies played well. Today’s loss won’t significantly hurt our tournament chances. Should still be in, but a home loss to A&M followed by a backyard beat down courtesy of South Carolina would make things dicey.

Really just need to win the A&M game. Feels like making the tournament would be a near guarantee with a win over A&M barring a bad loss in the SEC tournament and some wild happenings around the country.

As far as CKH goes because it’s a hot topic after every loss…she’s the coach until she isn’t. While I haven’t seen anything that leads me to believe she is capable of getting us to a Final Four, the immediate outlook as of right now is this imo: as long as we make the tournament, CKH is likely the coach next season.

don't understand taking Darby out when she starts hitting; i know her defense is not the best but is about as good as the rest
Me either. Tess looked ready to go on a heater but got pulled. I also didn't understand the end of quarter management when Tess ended up guarding HVL.

They use the minute before the end of quarters and right before media timeouts to get starters who play big mins just a little extra rest. Rickea played 38 mins and that's exactly when her breaks came. They use Strickland, Tess, Strip, and others who can shoot 3s for that 55 seconds. They don't worry that much about defensive matchups.

Was Karo under the weather tonight? If not where was she 3 minutes total on the floor and we had a poor shooting night. 3 / 17 (33 mins), 6/18 (38 mins), 2/12 (30 mins), 2/7 (2/7 (27 mins). give karo and Edie time, both have shown can shoot. If players are not performing try something different. Karo has gave some strong performances when she gets playing time. We managed to stay close to a very tired team Until the end. Subs with this group is terrible. At one point she subbed Wynn for Key (?). Being a great point guard as a player does not make you a good coach. She was an awesome point but look at our continued weakness at point. A good point job is to work the ball for the best shot. This team seldom has more than 2 passes per possession. I think any good recruit will see this coaching staff is not their best option unless they want to play playground style ball.
