Game thread: #15 Lady Vols host Ole Miss, Sun., Feb 16, Noon ET. SECN

Yes. I'll take both.

Without rewatching, it may (or may not) be that she guarantees one less player collapsing on drives to the bucket because they respect her shooting 3s and are coached that way. But see below.

Obviously that stat doesn't tell the whole story. People are prone to misuse it as a easy, comprehensive, and "irrefutable" way to evaluate players. People aren't numbers. Numbers are helpful, but aren't omnicompetent. I'll take CKC evaluating the film.

Interesting post. What do you think?

I think you summed it up nicely. +/- is a nice stat but as you point out, it must be interpreted and is not irrefutable. It can put you on the path to finding value in players that aren't stuffing the traditional stat sheet. But it also can be relatively meaningless in small samples. In chunks of 5 or more games it becomes more meaningful.

I always like to look at it at the end of every game to see if my eyes or the traditional stats missed anything. But sometimes the +/- doesn't tell the full story.

What is going on? We had a really important win, and I see comments about Ole Miss players all being thugs, making fun of their lack of diversity, but this steals the cake about race baiting. It was the black lady ref who challenged the white male ref to get a review on two occasions to the benefit of the Lady Vols. There are plenty of sites for this kind of talk, but there is no place for it here.
Your looking at the wrong one here. She called a foul on the Tn player that got taken down by an elbow by the Miss. Players . But yeah the refs were terrible all around.

This was a vital win for the Lady Vols. The only reason that OM even kept it close was that they started rebounding so much better on offense in the 2nd half and the ridiculous officiating. Spencer and Jewel took over when we needed them to in the second half. They will be sorely missed next year even though I imagine we will be really good.
I couldn't be happier for Jewel. With the exception of one big game last year, Jewel could not hit the threes against the best defensive teams. If contrast, she does remarkably well in this type of game this year. Moreover, she has become an all-around scoring threat on offense with her remarkable improvement in being able to dribble and penetrate. She now creates her own points in so many ways! All of this coupled with her much better defense, she is having a marvelous senior year.

One of the poorest first half of officiating I have seen. Second was a little more even, but still I think the two men Refs need to be back in Officiating school.

Just finishing watching the first half. The different levels of contact called and not called was clear. Anytime they lost control of the ball they got a whistle, for us a play on. The instant and broad booing by the fans can’t be faked. Not to mention when they seriously bodied up and displaced our players and they got walk calls. They could bludgeon our posts and no calls. Knocked us down at least twice.

I just made an observation which your very offended by. Thats on you. But you cant say im wrong.
Not wrong but that was not an innocent observation. There was obviously a subcontext you were going for. Everyone heard your dog whistle. That is on you.
My apologies to those on here who hate this sort of discussion. I actually hate it too but silence can serve as assumed agreement or normalization. Done now.

for no other reason than my wondering how often a ref (or team of three) cover a single team I looked up the teams for a number of recent LV games: I was surprised at how infrequent. which leads to the question on how many referees are primarily SEC.

That’s all Lucy does is assume and then argue. She’s been blocked a long time ago. I would recommend the same

Were not going to get the double bye and that is no biggie. We just need to concentrate on winning the games we have left. I'm hoping for a fifth place finish we would go up against Oklahoma more than likely cause if they win out and we win out they will be the four seed. Playing one game before that game is not that serious and actually may be good as I've seen a lot of tournaments where a team with one game under their belt totally beat the team with the bye.

If we win out were going to be a four seed NCAA for sure and have a strong chance of getting in the 3 line. Long way to go and some hard games to play.

The main problem I had with the Refs yesterday is that they were letting Ole Miss get away with playing a physical style and not allowing up to do so. That was the main problem and the other was just some really bad judgement calls like the non charge call or the foul on what should've been a held ball. Refs have to get better in the women's game it is by far the worst officiated sport right now.
