Watched the game, and these are my quick impressions:
---Striplin is a much better offensive player than Hollingshead. She's more aggressive, and uses her body well, and has a couple of moves. I was amazed in this game at how little Hollingshead provided offensively--basically nothing---given her talent. She spends a lot of her time setting picks outside, and then when in the paint, in the first half, rarely called for the ball and rarely got it. I don't think she had more than 1 shot in the first half. Not an aggressive offensive presence. In the fourth quarter she got good position in the paint a couple of times and we got the ball to her---she was fouled on one of the plays and missed her shot on another. I don't know why post players catch a pass six feet from the basket and then want to try and dribble past their defender in the hope of getting a 3-foot shot---and in doing so often lose the ball. It's dumb. Catch the ball and go up quickly and strongly--and shoot. No dribbling.
Striplin, had 8 points in limited minutes in the first half. She gott into foul trouble and didn't really provide much offensively the rest of the game. I don't think she fouled out, and so I was very surprised that Harper played Hollingshead played most of the 4th quarter when Striplin is the better offensive player. Maybe the coaches view Hollingshead as the better defender...
---Powell is demonstrably better than she was last year--quicker, more aggressive, more confident. Her shooting essentially won this game for us late. Wells didn't show me much for most of the game--but she had a couple of key baskets as well in the fourth. It's interesting that Harper played Powell and Wells together in for a large chunk of the 4th--and I believe Spear spent a large chunk of the 4th on the bench, which was weird. Harper's personnel decisions are quite unpredictable--but they worked out for a change.
---Puckett is playing confidently and aggressively, but she was very up and down in this game. Would make a shot or two, get a rebound, then miss two shots and commit a turnover, then get a rebound and make a nice shot...then another lose the ball and miss two shots. But overall, her play was a net positive, for sure, and she's been one of best players this season. Like Powell, she has improved her game.
---I thought the team's defense was better in this game. There were the usual lapses, we got out-fought for balls multiple times---but not a bad defensive effort on the whole.
