Game Thread: #19/21 Lady Vols vs. #22/20 Oklahoma, Sat 1:32PM, WSN network

I got my answer it was right there given by the Coach a few weeks ago and I just missed it. She has no restrictions, but she alone decides her pace of recovery. She is in charge of her own exercise program whatever she wants to do is totally up to her. I can understand why she would take it slow because of the mental part of it. I just hope she recovers completely back to the players she was. Finally I was not criticizing her was curious to where she might be trying to get this season. I'm sure she has a plan that will work for her and look forward to her being back to where she was over a season ago even if it doesn't happen this year.
If she is in charge of her fitness program, she may never play well enough to be a contributor to this team or be able to play in the league. Her future is in jeopardy if she does,t get into good physical condition. I hate this because she certainly has the physical numbers to be a great player.

Did u watch our OU game? We literally had a 8-0 run to start. She can wait and come off bench. We don’t need everyone tryna score 20 in the first quarter either
And 4 of those 8 points came from Destinee Wells assists getting the ball right where it needed to go.

Does Jon coach the bigs for Tennessee? Seems like a player like Hollingshead should be scoring more for the minutes she plays.
Nope coach joy does and she helped produce a couple All Americans at Florida State and Michigan. Does the Name Naz Hillman ring a bell? I think the kids name at Florida State was Gillespie. I would have to look it up

I think it's Jon and Joy. He more actively coaches them in games. Joy is very quiet on the bench. Both work w them in practice.

Good question. Going into year 5, I have yet to hear any clear definition of what his role on the coaching staff really is...

Watched the game, and these are my quick impressions:

---Striplin is a much better offensive player than Hollingshead. She's more aggressive, and uses her body well, and has a couple of moves. I was amazed in this game at how little Hollingshead provided offensively--basically nothing---given her talent. She spends a lot of her time setting picks outside, and then when in the paint, in the first half, rarely called for the ball and rarely got it. I don't think she had more than 1 shot in the first half. Not an aggressive offensive presence. In the fourth quarter she got good position in the paint a couple of times and we got the ball to her---she was fouled on one of the plays and missed her shot on another. I don't know why post players catch a pass six feet from the basket and then want to try and dribble past their defender in the hope of getting a 3-foot shot---and in doing so often lose the ball. It's dumb. Catch the ball and go up quickly and strongly--and shoot. No dribbling.

Striplin, had 8 points in limited minutes in the first half. She gott into foul trouble and didn't really provide much offensively the rest of the game. I don't think she fouled out, and so I was very surprised that Harper played Hollingshead played most of the 4th quarter when Striplin is the better offensive player. Maybe the coaches view Hollingshead as the better defender...

---Powell is demonstrably better than she was last year--quicker, more aggressive, more confident. Her shooting essentially won this game for us late. Wells didn't show me much for most of the game--but she had a couple of key baskets as well in the fourth. It's interesting that Harper played Powell and Wells together in for a large chunk of the 4th--and I believe Spear spent a large chunk of the 4th on the bench, which was weird. Harper's personnel decisions are quite unpredictable--but they worked out for a change.

---Puckett is playing confidently and aggressively, but she was very up and down in this game. Would make a shot or two, get a rebound, then miss two shots and commit a turnover, then get a rebound and make a nice shot...then another lose the ball and miss two shots. But overall, her play was a net positive, for sure, and she's been one of best players this season. Like Powell, she has improved her game.

---I thought the team's defense was better in this game. There were the usual lapses, we got out-fought for balls multiple times---but not a bad defensive effort on the whole.

Everyone knew what Dean Lockwood did.

Husband should have been an analyst/non bench role.

That's what I'm getting at. With every other coaching staff here, fans pretty much knew what all the assistants did. With Kellie, that knowledge is apparently a threat to national security...

Let me start off by saying this isn’t about Key, but I’ll say this, some players really want to be great and some people just play basketball because of other reasons. As for Key, I wish everyone will accept that nothing will change this season, all u guys can hope is if she decides to put in the work this off season, she will be ready to contribute more next season. Or maybe she won’t even be playing next season.

Top notch write up, nicely done

What are y’all talking about. It’s common LV knowledge that Jon and Joy coach posts. Only a secret from those who will not see. It’s been said on this site many many times including by me earlier today. Try harder.

These people. SMH. After a nice win over #22, the only thing they have got is "WHAHAHAAHA, I don't know the exact things each coach does every single practice!!!!!" Maybe if they hold their breath till they turn blue, Kellie will send them a detailed organizational chart.

I just love the determination we had. That will take any team far
It was an important game after the IU fiasco. The LV’s responded well. Striplin has improved a bunch this year as has Powell. Spear is starting to get comfortable on her new team. The key for Spear will be to maintain her offensive game once RJ returns and not to get caught relying on Rikea to carry the offense.

Well good on you for being the smartest one in the room, but it obviously isn't "common knowledge" or so many different fans wouldn't consistently be asking about it.

Assuming you're right and Jon is the post coach, that's not going to do much to quell the nepotism concerns....

Disappointed in your game on this one. Knowing that Jon coaches posts does not make anyone smartest in the room. Just minimally observant and minimally objective.

So funny that nepotism "concerns" only come up after a bad loss. Anyone who thinks one of the biggest problems with this team is Jon Harper, I just don't know what to tell you.

Tagged with a position is one thing. Joy coaching the same position means redundancy…she brings a strong recruiting background. Long story short, seems he’s being covered up with a title.

Again, Jon is so far down the list of this team's current problems its comical to keep dragging this nugget out..

It's hard to believe Hollingshed has only 4 block shots so far that is unacceptable. For a player with her skill set athleticism height and long wingspan she should have way more blockshots. Note the team only has 16,
And Tess has 3-4 of them...
