Game Thread: (5/6) Lady Vols 63 - (13/13) Georgia 55

I’m vaccinated and boosted and have had it twice🤷🏾‍♀️. Just hope she’s okay.
I think the relevant part of the issue pertaining to basketball is that we will get her back quicker if she has been vaccinated and boosted. It goes through your system quicker and the protocol just calls for 5 days unless your symptoms are not improving. So, I hope she gets through quick for her sake as well as our sake.

We don’t even know that she herself has it. Wouldn’t get too carried away speculating. It’s possible she just had direct contact with someone who tested positive.

Wow, Horston just getting better and better! Has had an amazing season from the start. Now her TOs have been down the last few games to. Her shooting percentage has been creeping up. Her 3 point shooting has been better. And another rooster said it. If she’s on the floor one just feels better about this team’s performance. Today she had half of the teams assists, and I think she tries more than everyone else combined to get the ball to Key. She is always looking to make her team better. She is starting to look like a Tamika Catchings. Will she be the next Parker, Catchings or Holdsclaw? An electrifying player bringing some much needed excitement to the Lady Vols!!

Great win for Lady Vols. However, I have one pressing concern. Key continues to be plagued by foul trouble, thereby reducing her playing time. This hurts the LVs because she is the most valuable defensive player on a team whose forte is defense. I believe the Stanford loss was due to Key playing only 16 minutes. I wish this problem could be solved. I believe strongly that the LVs could win a NC if Key could average 30 minutes of playing time per game. Currently, she is averaging 24 minutes playing time per game.

Dye should get in touch with Coach Jumper for his details on the technique of shooting free throws. Some time ago he gave it on this forum.
Every youth I have given the information improved dramatically. I don't know his way of judging how to hit targets off the backboard after catching rebounds but he has said he is a good pool player and that takes angle judgment.

I play a little pool...:

These are games that separate good teams from special teams. The LVs had their share of adversity. This game showed that Tess matters, she spreads the floor with her outside threat and she is missed on the defensive end. But, without her, the LVs still found a way.

I chalk some of the first half turnovers to the break. Practice just can't replicate the game intensity of a quality opponent. A road at GA after a break was not ideal but the LVs found away.

Tamari in foul, Keyen going out with a worrisome looking knee injury was a bad situation but the LVs found a away. Emily Saunders was crucial in those 2:38 minutes. No points, no rebounds or assists but she stopped the "go to Staiti" lay-up drill. She bodied up well and forced Staiti to go outside where fortunately she was not hitting. It was brief for key spell before KEY could come back in.

Rae hit some big shots and plays but she still in "not in the groove", which bodes well.

Jordan made the plays (again) when the plays needed to be made. She hit some great shots but her real game changing came on defense, where she was freakin' off the charts. I have compared her to Lex Hornbuckle and I stand by that with the addendum that she has more offensive skill. She is becoming a major player.

When push comes to shove, this team's defensive acumen keeps them in the game when things are not going well.

She has been doing better in terms of not getting into foul trouble. This game was made much more difficult by TK's foul trouble. I agree with the announcer that the type of play that got her #4 needs rule change. And she made a totally unnecessary foul out on the perimeter against Staiti. Some her others were just bad luck. I suspect that Keyen may be out a while so Key's fouls now take on added significance.

Was glad to see Horston keep blocking Nicholson's shots when I heard all last summer about how great she was going to be for Georgia this season. Kept hearing how great a lot of players were going to be that have bombed out and well others that were not P5 making a huge difference this season.

Another myth that arose this summer was that this team would not be as good as last season because we lost Rennia Davis and wouldn't be able to replace what she brought to the team. I said this would be a better team because of the addition of Dye and the incoming freshman class. That Key and Horston would be much improved as juniors because that is what usually happens with most players. I think this has proven to be true regardless of what happens from here to the end of this season. You need talent but years in a system and the system your in are huge factors as well.
