Game Thread: (7/9) Lady Vols 62 - Alabama 44

I saw the same thing as Volfan2012 here

What's the difference in Eff and over/under?

Plus/Minus (PM): The PM stat is "Plus/Minus", and reflects how the team did while that player is on the court. If a player has a +5 PM, it means his team outscored the opponent by 5 points while he was on the court. If he has a -3, then the opposing team outscored his team by 3 points while he was on the court.

So it's not an apples to apples comparison.

Two different evaluations. If you’re blocking someone while your teammate scores, that would not show up in the eff ratings. If your team plays better when you’re in the game, that’s an important stat to know, and one I’m sure the Coaches look at.

Actually, I was pretty impressed with Tess tonight. 3 from 7 and all her misses were so close. Defensively, she was really solid, even against smaller, quicker players. Her positioning is generally really good. Even when she is not shooting, she is spreading the floor. Everyone on the team had some mental lapses so that a point of improvement before the next game.
I agree. Going into the game, I thought Bama’s guards would exploit Tess on the defensive end and her minutes would be severely limited. I was pleasantly surprised that she held her own and then delivered a couple of daggers from 3 on the offensive end.

Miles is one of those players who seemed to fly under the rating services radar but Kellie saw the potential. She is having a great freshman season. She plays with poise and confidence. And she can make plays on both sides of the ball.

She makes up for her small stature with guts and plenty of smarts. Amazing how a freshman can contribute if they know the game well when they get here.

One thing I've noticed about Miles is she has the best ball control while dribbling of anyone we've had since Bobbitt. Maybe it's because they both are so low to the floor, but both players can dribble FAST up the court without ever having to cheat their eyes downward at all to make sure the ball is still where it ought to be. Miles is supremely confident in her dribble, and has zero trouble getting the ball up the floor no matter how many quick defenders are trying to stop her. Having that skill is invaluable, and sometimes I find myself shaking my head in disbelief she's only a freshman and only a third of the way into the season. Yes, she's small, but I would be shocked if there weren't WNBA scouts already taking notice. Yes, I said it, and I truly believe she can, and will, have a pro career if she wants one.

Why would anyone challenge her consistency? What has she been inconsistent about?

I had to go back through the thread to see where I wrote just that.. because last night was tequila and work so I definitely could’ve half written a statement but I couldn’t find it but I do believe this is missing a chunk of what I actually posted in response to a poster calling out CoachJumper for his previous assessment of Miles(which I don’t/didn’t take as negative and don’t now.. my full response was:

“A challenge to her consistency(idk about the “pedigree” claims) is not saying she can’t or won’t be successful. I also remember it being a challenge to Kellie to get it out of her, and she has done that. The development and consistency of all these players goes to the staff just as much as it’s the players’ individual talent levels.

The confidence and level of play TK is playing at warms my heart considering where she was when she came in on both sides of the ball. She’s developing so well and playing smarter as well as is being managed better, the talent and potential had always been there. It’s both sides that play their parts in the development of players and teams.”

Gorgeous!!

I remember when she was at U.T. and the first time I saw her all dolled up. I thought then she was one of the prettiest young women in the college game. She's obviously got stunningly beautiful grown-up presence now. I'm surprised someone hasn't whisked her off to Paris to model their fashions.

Remember what Tameka Johnson out of LSU was able to do at 5-3 in the SEC and she was pretty good in the WNBA too. This is who Miles reminds me of...Tameka had a huge heart and desire to win and I think Brooklyn has those same characteristics and is capable of being a difference maker......Heck, she already has been with her defense, speed, court vision and want to.......

Johnson played for the LSU Lady Tigers from 2001 to 2005, graduating from the school in 2005. She broke LSU's career assist record. She was also teammates with Seimone Augustus.

  • AP All-American honorable mention (2004, 2003, 2002)
  • All-SEC First Team (2005, 2004)
  • All-SEC Third Team (2003)
  • SEC Tournament MVP (2003)
  • SEC All-Tournament Team (2003, 2002)

I tend to agree, Kamera has beautiful bone structure. Seems like such a kind soul as well. Was so proud of her last night. I really enjoyed the broadcast.

PG is emerging as a strength of the team. Jordan W. has found her shooting stroke and seems to be fully back from her ACL injuries. And Miles is fast tracking in her development. That combo is huge for the LVs because it also takes a lot of pressure off of Jordan Horston, who can focus more on what she does best--scoring and defending.

I remember Tameka. She was a great player, a point guards point guard.

No doubt, she is "easy on the eyes." She seemed a little nervous last night and sometimes struggled to get her thoughts out. But time and experiencd will sort that problem out.

Loved hearing coach talk about the tough love Brooklyn received from Coach Sam this summer. How she embraced it, and how it’s now paying off for her. Makes me so proud, those are the kind of young women I love to cheer for!

Also was really excited to hear how much Coach Sam contributed to her development. I know she was key for Louisville in the development of some of their more talented guards of the years. Coach Sam will be a huge asset for us. She seems inspiring and holds herself and her players to a high standard. That’s what this program needs!

Same for Coach Joy!

She openly admitted on Instagram that she was very nervous. I’m sure it’s hard to call the game when you’re so close to the program as well. She’s only been out two years. Some of her teammates were playing! I’m certain it would lose my train of thought watching the game and forgetting I’m on the call 😂😂

Actual attendence closer to 4,000-4,500.

Oh, yes, Dak. I remember Tameka Johnson extremely well because she torched us on numerous occasions. Tameka and Brooklynn handle the ball similarly, but Brooklynn will need to continue to develop her outside shooting game to have exactly all the weapons Johnson had.

She’ll eventually score more (I hope), but I think we’d all agree that for now we need her more for running point and defense than we do for scoring. If she ever does become a TJ-level scorer Tennessee will be adding some trophies to the case.
