Game Thread: (7) Lady Vols 86 - (RV) Arkansas 83

I was at the game, but could you TV viewers tell that Mike Neighbors spent more time talking to the officials than his team during timeouts? There was one extended TV timeout that he spent the entire time talking to two of the three officials. Meanwhile, his assistant coaches were talking to the players.

Seriously, this is what happened at almost EVERY timeout. 🙄

The wife and I were right behind the Hogs bench - the guy worked harder than any gymnast I've ever seen. Wild gestures and sprinting up and down (and way past) the coaching lane. Never said anything out of line though.

Heh - also noticed the refs escorting Kellie off the court and back to the sidelines a few times.

We've had this same Referee crew for the last two games now. They are not good for us hope we don't see them in Florida. Let the smaller players get away with way to many arm hack on Key and Horston. They should've lived at the line last night much more than they did.

Nothing says the Auburn game was an anomaly like a hard fought, come-from-behind, overtime victory against an unranked team at home.

Arkansas is very well-coached and has clearly improved more than Tennessee since their first meeting. The Lady Vols are fortunate the home and home schedule fell the way it did. They would not have won this game in Fayetteville like they did earlier...

LOL That's digging pretty deep when you credit the schedule-maker for bailing us out last night.

Maybe this Sunday the moon will be in the 7th house, and Jupiter will align with Mars.

Don't say that too much you don't want to be viewed as a homer or conspiracist.

Be that as it may I've watched way to much basketball in my life to know when a crew is not doing a great job. Key doesn't have that much trouble catching the ball if she is not being hit and she easily can go up for a shot unless arms are dragging her down.

All facts!

No, digging pretty deep is blaming a ridiculous referee conspiracy.

In this case, it's not always about who you play but when you play them. Arkansas clearly improved significantly since their first game against Tennessee, and I don't think it's a stretch at all for anyone who watched the game to say the Lady Vols likely lose that game if it's on the road--especially in light of their previous game.

That's not a credit or a blame to anyone, just sometimes things in the schedule fall your way and sometimes they don't. For example, it appears UConn will be a much tougher game than they would have been earlier in the season when the roster was depleted. If only Tennessee could have played them sooner...

Give it a rest Darth...

Actually you did credit Arkansas for being well-coached and better after the first meeting, and blamed the Lady Vols for being the opposite. The scheduling remarks were just more fluff in your swipe at the Lady Vols win. It's all part of your well-known schtick....played though it is.

It's reasonable to say Arky has improved more than we have since the first game. But the context is we started way ahead of the curve of what we were predicted to be, espec without Rae, and they started out worse than predicted. Our progress has gotten a little stuck the last couple of games and they're on fire. So we sort of met in middle. Except we won.

A great coach hires what he's/she's not.
I have to have coaches who can see patterns, I can't. I can draw a play up, yes, but I couldn't begin to tell you if everybody did their movements. My mind doesn't work in movement patterns,,,bodily patterns and movements, yes...computer paths, yes,,but movement patterns,,well, you should see me try to line-dance,,,pathetic... that said, I have to find people that have the skills I am deficient on.

This was CHW's demise (to me),,,she didn't want anyone who thought independently or possessed a strength or expertise that might over-shine her

This was a different crew than the Auburn game...that was Dee Kantner, Brian Enterline and Fatou Cissoko-Stephens. The crew for the Arkansas game was Felicia Grinter, Karen Preato, Brian Garland.

I sit courtside across from the visitor's bench and he said (yelled) plenty of out of line things to the refs. I didn't hear any profanity, but I'm surprised that he didn't get a technical on more than one occasion.

What is with ref’s letting defenses get up under an offensive player while holding, pushing, and physically abusing the player on offense ? And when a player takes a jump shot or drives to the goal the defender will move under the offensive player and then FLOP trying to draw a foul ????

Players are going to get hurt or hurt themselves playing like this ? 🤷‍♂️

Have watched the game twice now. Tamari was fouled on every shot attempt she made in the first half. Hacking her arms. The great photo they caught clearly shows Langerman hacking her arm and there was no call on that play.

There was another play that she “blocked” TK and it was an absolute foul.

That’s always my fear. For our post players as well. As I mentioned yesterday, when you undercut someone that is 6’8” that is a long way to fall. Big bodies fall hard. I worry about TK breaking an arm/wrist as much as she gets tripped and pushed down and has to catch herself.

Right you are. They're a better team and he's the better coach. That we're 2-0 against them is proof the scheduling was kind to us. Glad you pointed it out. It would have never occurred to me. Making excuses is hard.......

All of that is true for any kind of leader. It's leadership 101.
