If not, we have alternatives. IMO the 4th qtr of the FSU game was huge for this team in showing them that.

I knew Coop would be good just from watching her practice a few times last year. But I didn't know she'd be this level of a go to. That is also huge for this team.
I get Coach's line-change philosophy, but I hate it when Cooper heads to the bench. Especially when she's knocked down 2 or 3 shots in a row.

Iowa is favored by 1.5. Vegas is expecting a nail biter.
Iowa has a couple of very good inside players. I would try to cut off the three don't let them get open looks out there. I don't think they can score enough inside to win. Their three point shooting hasn't been sensational, but they have shooters that can go off even if they are only 32 percent as a team through their first eight games.

Yeah, I find myself thinking, "Noooooo! Don't go!!!! Come back!!!!!" every time both Cooper AND Spencer head to the bench. lol

But I have to keep reminding myself that Kim knows even more than we do what Cooper is capable of, but still feels it's important to see this plan through. She has a progression in her mind, and knows when, or if, that needs to be changed up a bit. She has already made some quicker subs of one or two players at a time when it has been warranted, so I can see that she isn't totally inflexible on that.

We're just used to seeing the hot hand stay in until they go cold or are worn out. Even with the regular 2-minute subs, I doubt there will ever be a game Coop is on the bench at the end of a tight game unless they've fouled out or rolled an ankle earlier. Or Spencer. Or Spearman. And two of these three: Whitehorn, Spear and Latham. Or if we need a desperation 3 Kim might have Tess out there to either be a decoy or try to get a shot off.

I wonder if Kim was nervous sitting up there with all those other longtime, successful coaches. I can't imagine she wouldn't be at least a little bit nervous.

I also feel a little bit bad for her that she's heading into this next part of the schedule likely feeling less energetic and perhaps in a bit of discomfort because she's growing a human inside her body. That can certainly sap a woman's energy, even those who are stay-at-homers. Imagine being pregnant and about to have to start traveling and sleeping in strange beds and doing all the hard work of preparing for it all.

At 35 she's still young, but that's still not the 20s. A 35-year-old's body is a lot different than a 25-year-old's.

I wonder if her husband was able to travel with her on this trip?

I can't imagine the stress she's under with the magnitude of this job, though she seems well equipped for it. You're right, add a 1st time pregnancy - wow, that's a lot to deal with! Fortunately, support from family & staff will get her through.

We're getting to see some of the best players in the NCAA, early on. We watched Ta'Niya Latson go off for 38 points; part of that due to some careless handling and bad passing on offense, and missed assignments on defense; the bigger part of it, however, she's really good. And, she's 5'8!" What a performance!

There's a different style of great at Iowa: Lucy Olsen, just like Latson, is an All-American candidate who plays a brilliant game of basketball: three level scorer, savvy defender. And she's a terrific passer - long and rangy with the ability to skip or lob the ball into the post, and, she's expert with angles while on the move. Put another way: had Lucy gashed her knee a week later, we win by twenty-plus. She's the glue.

The good news is we have a longer, more athletic team than Iowa, so we can stay with their shooters. Their post players are tough, determined, and stout, but we should out rebound them, though not by much.

For the not-so-good news: overall, their experience and style could neutralize our athletic advantage, making them difficult to trap and confound. Nor should we expect a high number of turnovers with our press due their excellent spacing, they don't wait for the defense, and they keep the ball in flight. They do what they do very well.

Bottom line: This is a tough scout for Coach Caldwell. She must continue to work on us, while preparing for a very good opponent. I have no clue about the score, but expect it to get to the low-eighties.
Cheers.

What streaming services are folks watching the game tonight? I've got sling orange with the sports package. I get virtually every game i like to watch from there but it doesnt have fox. Is there any other streaming that may have fox sports for no cost. It sucks if I have to add sling blue for 1 game....

don't forget cooper is also rested and therefore able to have an advantage on the court. there is another side to the "keep her on the court" point of view. their system is designed for all out effort then rest then repeat. i think cooper is actually benefiting from this system. that said, in a close game with limited time on the clock, cooper needs to be on the court regardless of subs. she was against fsu.

Board is really losing its appeal. There were lots of new fans and now it seems they have been driven off by the status quo regulars and their bullying.

🧐
Pretty sure plenty of those “new fans” had drifted over from other VolNation forums. A number of earnest wbb that came in with CKC seem to be holding their own.

Many of the CKH only fans/ this system will never work fans. are probably still lurking 👀 waiting for a loss.

You’ve been around long enough to know how this works…

Since Caitlin can’t do a variety of different dunks, I’d put my money on Candace. She gets the ball first cause, age before beauty (well established playground rule).
Tell one thing don't like about cc/CP.
They both left only playing in Three NCAA tournaments.
Both had eligibility of one year that wasn't used.

Most of the live streaming services offer 7 day free trial. Don’t have to keep it. I love my YouTube live tv tho.

I agree with everything you said, Ivocd. Remember also, CKC's basic susbstitution scheme is similar to Pat's. She strives to give each player their playing minutes based on practice performance and other considerations.
