Game Thread: Lady Vols at No. 4/3 LSU; 7PM; ESPN2

Kellie said last week in an interview she made the schedule too tough. Said she wanted them to get punched, but not that much.

To be fair, she's also said they didn't have any idea it would be this hard or take this long to bring this team to its full potential. Obviously.
Both are on her. Those other teams didn’t think it was too tough to play Tennessee and win.

That Tennessee SOS is probably going to be one after tonights game. It really doesn't help you any. A win by LSU tonight will actually be their best win if they can pull it off. I think Arkansas was ranked when they played them the first time, but that has proven to be a ranking that didn't hold up. I can't say enough how well Mulkey has played this season. They may get beat by a six or seven seen in the NCAA at the end of the season, but she has got them there with a two seed without having to beat anyone ranked in the top ten and only one team that was ranked in the top 25. Her team thinks they are good whether they are really that great or not. Beating Tennessee won't prove anything either. We have a team that can be fairly good offensively, but can't defend anyone with any actual ability. If LSU loses to SC will go totally ignored as far as their seeding and ranking as they are supposed to lose that game. She knows how to schedule for success and no matter how it turns out recruits will just look at their record and think hey this is a team on the upswing and actually they are. Mulkey may wear the lavish outfits and act a little crazy, but she is a really smart coach.

LVs chances of winning against LSU.....

"You brought 2 too many."

and even trying to be egalitarian in how she distributes minutes to players.
THIS is the problem. I understand her motivations, and I have alot of sympathy for the situation, which is new and uncharted with the portal influx. But there's a stubborness by KJH in her reluctance to change when it obviously is not working that I do blame her for.

KJH impressively rebuilt the shattered LV culture she inherited. She did it as a player's coach who went out of her way to give everyone a chance (tho Lou Brown begged to differ). Then the portal happened and truthfully and understandably, she recruited over several of her favorite players. IMO she has really struggled to reconcile all of this and it's taken a toll on her and the team.

It will be really interesting to see who starts tonight. Hopefully the game stays interesting for a bit beyond that, but I'm not optimistic at all. in fact, for the first time in a long time, I find myself almost dreading the game. Hate this feeling, will eat a ton of crow happily if I'm wrong.

I think that post said it was Jon Harper.
IMO, it's very sexist and unfairly diminishing to KJH to assume she can't have a male, espec her spouse, workiing for her without him overpowering her. I've said before, Jon Harper should be getting feminist awards for working FOR his spouse for 20 yrs and is the best role model Jackson Harper (and the little girl) could possibly have. It's ok and normal for Mom to be boss and Dad to work for her.

Mulkey has coaching equity too. In year two, 20-0 and a few national titles comes across as knowing what you’re doing.

LSU finished ahead of Kellie's Lady Vols in the standings her FIRST season. That's what happens when your school is actually willing to devote money and resources to their women's basketball program...
This was a little surprising to me considering what football fanatics LSU fans are, but they certainly made the commitment to women's basketball there. Not saying we want here White likes to win and he has shown the willingness to pay whatever it takes. I think we'll need to see a turnaround as early as next season for something not to happen to change the situation as it is now.

And she had less to work with when she took over at LSU than Kellie had to work with at UT.
Maybe a little less but not as much as some may think. Reese and Williams are former five star players and this is Williams third team from SC to Missouri to LSU so she is an experienced player. Reese has an argument for best player in the country this season. Then she has F. Johnson at least one of the top three freshmen in the country and Carson and Morris are seniors and are better than any one or two guards we have. To me the only two players we have that are better are Horston and Jackson. Then we have some that are equal and some that are worse. What she has coming in next season to go what is coming back from this season makes them look like a team that will challenge SC for conference supremacy while we look to be sinking to the middle of the league.

Kellie has a clear sartorial pattern. She dresses up for home games and goes casual (usually wearing a LV pull over) for away games.

On this roadtrip, Kellie needs to bring the look and match Mulkey's trailer park fashion intensity blow for blow, rhinestone for rhinestone. And that response will probably need to be a black leather Catwoman suit with a rhinestone studded mask and sky high stilettos. That may be the only chance the LVs have to win.

I believe Kellie pointed out earlier, fans should not be commenting on players attire or looks.

I don’t care what Kellie looks like as long as she has a game plan, an actual offense and defense and she adjusts during the LSU game compared to what we saw vs UCON AND don't take timeouts HOME to Knoxville.

If people don’t get it, this team needs Quad 1 wins bad or they maybe watching the tournament at home come March.

I think the Lady Vols will win this game vs LSU, only if LSU doesn’t come out shooting 56% from the field all night .. ( like UConn did) 🙄I also agree about the subbing in and out with this team .. would like to see solid minutes from a solid starting 5 line-up.. this team has potential for sure .. just need to get back on track tonight with LSU.. not an easy task , but very doable..Good Luck Lady Vols.. 🧡🏀

Against our defense they may shoot 60 percent. UConn shot 70 percent for three quarters of the game and we've been know to not have the defense to stop teams when the game is on the line.

Yep that 20 & 0 record looks good to recruits. Like someone said VN over analyze things and know every little fact which is great amongst the community but if you play the number 1 schedule and lose all those games all the recruits see is the record. Their refrain is I'd rather to go to an upper tier team.

True, but she got the top 2023 before the season started.

Her downfall as LV coach, if it comes, is that she wants to run the team as a democracy, sharing power with assistants and even trying to be egalitarian in how she distributes minutes to players.

It is good to be collaborative but, at some point, the buck stops with the coach and you have to run with the players who give you the best chance to win.

I suppose that could be an issue but her constantly looking toward the assistants makes it appear she is looking for their input more now than last year.

Nonetheless, recruiting is far more likely to result in “downfall if it comes”.

If a move is made after this year or next. I do believe Danny will move away from the old guard influence when hiring. Seems the old guard is also holding back the NIL by being a separate entity by choice with the BoostHer Club. If we are losing recruits, that’s where you look first to why if it’s not the coaches.
