No need to guard Russell at the high post because she has no jump shot. They'll just swarm on Graves in the paint. At the high post, Graves can use her speed to drive to the basket.

Tennessee will need Russell to play big against Oregon State. Otherwise, Ruth Hamblin will eat her for lunch.

That will be a huge loss. Jasmine Jones is more athletic and will be more effective playing at the high post than the wing, but Bashaara is so tough and a very smart basketball player. It's a shame that the has been playing so lackluster her senior year.

Graves has always been her best at the 5 and Russell isn't tough enough for the 5.

Yeah, I think it has more to do with Warlick and the coaches than any other part of the team. It's hard for me to believe that all of our players are recruiting busts.

Have not seen earlier posts,but watching this team play is not conducive to making anyone relax. They are pretty bad right now. Reynolds is a complete liability both on offense and defense. Russell seems to be playing with boxing gloves on and cannot move on defense. Deshields and Cooper move into traffic rather than away from it,and neither is shooting well. Jackson is not as touted. Dunbar played but was very gimpy on her leg. Graves and Carter saved the LVs tonight,but looks like this may be a four loss team before Christmas. They sure have a long way to go.

Graves would be at her best at the 5 if Tennessee had a 4 with a jump shot. Izzy or Cierra allowed her to play the low post on offense at times because they could consistently knock down the 15 footer or drive to the basket, so defenses had to respect that. Russell can't do either. She would either get in Bashaara's way since she has to be in the paint to score, or defenses would just ignore her if she's out of the paint.

I agree Russell isn't tough enough for the 5. Zero offensive rebounds against an undersized team, while Bashaara grabbed 11...pathetic! She really isn't a very good player right now and needs a lot of work to be a focal point of the offense.

I wonder if other NCAA coaches are using these poorly coached games against us in recruiting. Maybe that's why recruiting has feel off so bad. Truly disheartening to say the least.

Team play is non existent ......that is on the head coach.Without a half court offense both Cooper and Deshields tried to take it on themselves to create some offense and failed miserably.Mercedes Russell is the biggest disappointment of all ,As one poster put it she is soft and I guess that is why she is pulled out to the free throw line or 3 point line most of game,She has hands of stone and is a lamb under the basket on both ends and at the present we would be better off with her sitting on the bench.The best description of this team's play as a team is that it is non-existent.We might as well gird our loins for the worst season in Lady Vol history.

You have a good point. Russell has poor footwork, not aggressive as she needs to be, watches the game way too much, allows others to push her around, allows smaller players to dominate her, has trouble blocking out, do not seem to be very strong as she needs to be, and misses way too many easy shots. A lot of this falls on Dean's shoulders, with proper coaching, many of these issues can be corrected.
