You said a mouthfull.... I'll be watching it again this afternoon as never see everything the first time with the pressure of live watching. Will be a lot more fun to watch the second time than it was the first especially that second half.
I'm blaming the coaching staff for a lot of what has happened with her since she has been here. She never got much opportunity and much development the first two seasons she was here. Most of her development came in the summer after her sophomore year. It took an injury for her to get in the lineup for any substantial play at all. I think we will see her get better everygame from here on out nothing like playing on the court to get better. They should've worked her at point guard from day one as a freshman glad she finally found a position.I said before when folks said Kaiya wouldn’t be able to do it, that y’all were wrong. I hope she keeps proving me right.
“Went all Joe Milton”! I love this!I thought about you when RJ's very first play of the game was the dreaded spin into a turnover move. And it happened for the exact reason it always does - she was going to town and slapping that dribble with all her might and it was going way high. Thankfully for all of us, that was a fleeting moment before the greatness happened.
Amid all her great plays, one RJ gem I loved was that overhead full court pass to Tess who swished the 3. That was the game clincher and partly due to pure luck. Auburn got a steal and an uncontested layup which they missed, RJ ripped off the rebound, wound up and went all Joe Milton on that pass. It was Tess' only 3 but she nailed it and that 5 pt swing was huge.
You can’t teach tall.I noticed this along with Jewel not seeing the floor much either.
Strip was subbed out for Tamari’s Defense. I don’t think it had anything to do with Strip. You can see Kellie going directly to her after the game and seemingly letting her know all was good.
In postgame Kellie said no posts “did anything” to see less minutes in the second half, they just needed Tamari in for defense.
Mulkey is becoming a flipping maniac yelling she flopped when Reese clearly had her around the throat. She will really show out when they play us.
That Kimmie Night @ PMAC was amazing.
I am not sure it was just luck. The LVs tracked back and made that a contested lay-up. But, it was one beauty of a pass from RJ (and a nice swisher from Tess that looked a lot like what she does in those practice drills, you know, when she is not "being coached" and it is "just practice."I thought about you when RJ's very first play of the game was the dreaded spin into a turnover move. read that to.Tigers see win streak end against Tennessee
After a dominant first half, Auburn women’s basketball struggled to carry momentum to the second half in the Tigers’ 75-67 loss to Tennessee in Neville Arena on Thursday night inwww.auburnvillager.com
Tigers hold their own vs. Lady Vols, prove their potential to make a splash in SEC
With Auburn having only played its first of 16 regular season conference games, there’s plenty of time for the Tigers to settle into the speed and intensity of SEC women’s basketball.www.al.com
Good to see that other journalists in the SEC hold our coach in higher regard than half of the posters on VolNation...
"Considering Harper won three national titles as a player at Tennessee under the legendary Pat Summitt, Harper’s compliments shouldn’t be taken for granted. She’s seen good basketball, played good basketball and is now coaching good basketball with the Lady Vols, who were projected to finish third in the SEC this season."
All credit to her, she made some big shots and great passes last night but she remains a work-in-progress.I said before when folks said Kaiya wouldn’t be able to do it, that y’all were wrong. I hope she keeps proving me right.
The TRUTH must be told and you my friend hit the nail square on the head.Everyone talking about how bad this game was for the lady vols, but Auburn hasn't given up more than 67 points all season and that was a a loss early on to California. In their last 8 games which were all wins, they hadn't given up more than 62. We scored 75. Auburn's opponents average 22.1 turnovers per game and they average 11.1 steals per game. We had 23 turnovers with a point guard (Wynn) playing her second game ever as the backup point guard having 7 of those turnovers. The turnovers weren't as bad as they could have been. Considering all of the factors that mattered in this game, it was a good first win in the SEC. I don't care what team it is, when you are on an 8-game win streak playing on your home court you're going to be tough to beat. Auburn is going to surprise some teams this year.
Catch 2.0 with Holdsclaw-like scoring ability. RJ on offense reminds me so much of Chamique, a human scoring machine.Rickea is fast becoming Tamika Catchings 2.0.
I did miss a few minutes of the game as I fainted immediately when Rickea went down but like Rickea I recovered to finish the game.
We're lucky to have six in the mix, and I think that's the difference w this year's team. Also Wells was supposed to be in that mix. Surely at least two of that crowd can chip in every game. Really want to see Jewel and Jill get going. Thought Jill had a couple of nice aggresive rebounds last night.Against Auburn, they had more points from Powell/Wynn combo than will probably be typical game in game out but I think they will need at least 15 ppg. from that tandem.
Out of Spears, Striplin, Pucket, Hollingshead, and T. Darby mix, I think at least two of those will need to be in double figures every game.
One of the toughest on court decisions to make for a pg. Everyone wants to get to the rim and JP despite her size has been doing it way more successfully recently. But yeah, sometimes its a what were they thinking moment. Sometimes the overdribbling comes fm lack of movement by other players.I worry about her (and Powell for that matter) over dribbling in the half court set. They were able to get to the rim several times against Auburn but teams will adjust to make that escape route less available.
Yep, she's going to get pressed to within an inch or her life. It's going to be nerve wracking, but let's see what she can do. Alot depends on her.Wynn is a double edged sword. On the plus side, she goes full speed and attacks the rim and on the downside she also goes full speed and turns the ball over. She is brand new to the position but has to fast track her ability to read game situations and how to modulate her tempo
