Game Thread: Lady Vols @ Auburn: Thurs Jan 4, 7:02 p.m. CT (8:02 Eastern) ; SECN+ Win 75-67

sorry folks
not raining on the parade
gonna take it to the couch and let the fans enjoy a very hard-worked for win

Coach Harper has a long way to go to impress this ol coach
But a win is a win and I am thrilled we got this one
Why do you keep watching in all honesty? You obviously can't stand her as a coach and critique her every move yet she is a d1 coach and I don't think you have been one. Not saying she's perfect but she sure can't do one thing right for you.

She is being played out of position. She is not strong enough to a low post. She is also under sized playing there. She needs to be on the wing where she can shot. You can tell she is frustrated playing where Kellie has her.
But she played that same position early in the season and did well. I wouldn't be surprised if she was sick.

She'll be frustrated because she's going to be getting fewer looks and fewer shots with Jackson back in action. She is someone we would
want to station at the 3 line if Jackson is playing inside, and if RJ is getting doubled, she should look for Puckett (and others) on the perimeter.

But if she’s on the wing she can’t beat a defender off the dribble or create her own shot. It’s catch and shoot like Tess.

As stated before you can support the girls but also hold this staff accountable. Most now watch for the girls, just happens the staff isn’t very good.

I am assuming that we are talking about Strip. Yep, Jackson likes to be in the paint and that does mean that Strip is going to displaced.

However, RJ looks more comfortable out on the perimeter (either shooting or driving to rim). And Strip is good on the perimeter--shooting and passing--so I could see them working well together in a fluid way with each varying their floor positions.

I think the bigger hit on Strip's minutes is going to be the resurgence of Key (a great problem to have). Strip seems like the ultimate team player so I have no doubt she will adjust as needed.

Of course, kellie never gets credit. If the LVs had a ten point lead and then got steamrolled in the 3rd quarter and lost the game, everyone would be yelling about how the opposition outcoached Kellie and made great halftime adjustments.

When the situation is reversed, it's "Kellie should have had them roaring from the tip" and the 2nd half turn around just magically happened because Kellie was likely cuddled into a fetal position during the break.

Earlier you asked what is "an agenda," Well, "an agenda" would include never giving credit to Kellie even when warranted and always spinning situations so that her every action is cast in a negative light.

Sure she gets credit, just not much to go around right now. Her faults seem to far outweigh the good in year 20. Not sure beating Liberty and Auburn is warranted as an “atta girl” when we should beat Liberty and Auburn. Now…win the games you’re supposed to win and the team did, only thing that matters. My view on a coach in over her head in games that matter shouldn’t skew your chance to protect.

She can catch and get to the goal. She is just undersized. Not physically strong enough to finish the shot most of the time. Especially against better teams. I want her to do well it's just what I see. I played a similar position when I played basketball.

I think we were talking about Sara.

I'd like to see both Strip and Jill play some 4 with the re-emergence of TK. Strip has turned out to be quite versitile and having all 3 of them really gives Kellie some match up options.

But losing to Liberty and Auburn would definitely have warranted an "aw sh*t". That's the "agenda".

No doubt.

I watched the replay and noticed that Jewel Spear was hurt in the 3rd qtr. She was clutching around her midsection.
She said something to Coach Harper standing near the team’s bench and the coach left her in for a bit probably to see if she could play through it.
It seemed to be bothering her.
Now it makes sense that she came out and didn’t go back into the game. She showed grit and toughness in her first SEC game. That’s big time!

I am not sure it was just luck. The LVs tracked back and made that a contested lay-up. But, it was one beauty of a pass from RJ (and a nice swisher from Tess that looked a lot like what she does in those practice drills, you know, when she is not "being coached" and it is "just practice."

Rickea is fast becoming Tamika Catchings 2.0.

....I did miss a few minutes of the game as I fainted immediately when Rickea went down but like Rickea I recovered to finish the game.
watch that point again, and really From there, she realized it was uo to her and when she slowed down, Jazzy goes into the same mode... "In The Zone".

Kea and now Jazzy,,are beginning to be able to command it happening

Kea is a generational player,,and she has the perfect platform:
If this team reaches the lofty expectations of its initial top 25 projection,,,#4
Candace moves a step back

Because in 1977 a lady coach went 28-5,,,pretty near to where I grew up (Chattanooga)...Because I met that same lady...Because that lady coach inspired me to coach exclusively girls...Because I give a damn

If Kellie succeeds, the girls succeed and the program succeeds
I do not root for her failure
bc that means the players don't succeed
I simply point out from own perspectives (just like everybody else on here does in their own way)

And I do so bc a care.

...Most now watch for the girls,...
Boom!
the players

as long as the focus is on the players, they are under a mircoscope
Look at the "fashion statement" by Mulkey
You think that isn't part of the plan...If the camera is on you then it's not on your team
Pat loved the camera (If she "really didn't,,give her an Emmy for performance)

Spear bump twice before she came. Saw her her midsection was hurting her good eyesight there.

All good until that last statement. CP3's- i.e., the two time NCAA champ and first team All-American- place in the LV pantheon is quite secure. She and Holdsclaw are the two prime contenders for greatest LV of all time.

RJ is an absolutely awesome player but let's respect the legacy.

if she us able to do this
what you have to consider is
could the other legends do it with this team?
(#4 finish)

This right here is my issue. I've been one to say this staff isn't perfect, but when they do well, they get zero credit. I've said this before. A large portion of this fanbase just will never like Kellie no matter how well she does. There's an agenda.

No agenda
just perception and insights
although, posters with agenda are present too

Beating teams you’re supposed to beat isn’t rewarded. By all means, you can praise beating Liberty and Auburn both teams nobody assumed would beat Tennessee (check the score predictions for personal reference). Believe she got credit when the team beat LSU last year. Are we still dipping into that for praise today?

Not even close. CPS led a 2005-2006 that played most the season without a PG, due to the transfer of SWG to Maryland and a broken arm for Alexis Hornbuckle, to an SEC conference title and an elite 8 finish. You know who filled in as the PG for much of that stretch --CP3 while leading the team in points, rebounds and blocks. In some ways, that was the most amazing team carrying performance since Holdsclaw almost single-handedly carried her team to an NCAA championship in her sophomore year (with a very talent challenged team).

Candace then led the team to back to back championships when UCONN and LSU were powerhouses.

Simply no comparison. Candace in her prime would be an upgrade over Rickea, which is no shame because Candace would be an upgrade over just about anyone who has played WCBB.

I always want to see our best players playing together, so I’d like to see Striplin playing when Tamari plays, not just as her sub. Last night, Striplin played 15 minutes and scored 7 points, Sara played 30 minutes and scored 2 points, Jillian 11 minutes with 0 points.

We had 3 players who made a 3 point shot, they were Rickea, Tess, and Striplin. Striplin has moves under the basket and can shoot away from the basket, so does Rickea, so neither is stuck under the basket.

If we “save” Striplin to only be Tamari’s sub, we lose all Striplin can do, and play another player who does not play as well under the basket, or cannot block out any better, or shoot from the perimeter any better.

When we play our toughest competition in the SEC, or in the tournaments, we need to get our best players in the game, not have them sit on the bench.

Great point. Right now, Strip is going better than Puckett or Hollingshead and should be the first choice for the 4 spot.

Rickea, Jasmine, Jewell, Karo, and Key could be a really good core line-up.

Yes, I was talking about Puckett, but it applies to Striplin as well: They're both going to see less of the ball now that RJ is back, and so the team will have to adjust and seek to be as cohesive as possible. That could be challenging. With RJ we're not a one-man band--but are close to it, and that can be problematic if players who might normally just shoot the ball start getting hesitant, thinking that RJ might be the better option. RJ will have to do her part by spotting and dishing to open players.

I would love to know the last time that a team took 30 more shots than its opponent, as Auburn did, and yet shot half as many free throws. THAT is crazy pair of stats.

Sara was actually leading the team on-court huddles and talking a lot on the court in the 2nd half at moments during the game.

To be honest, not trying to sound confrontational but I looked hard during the replay and never saw her looking frustrated or unhappy. She was working constantly down low to gain position in the post and the guards did attempt to find her more in the 2nd half.

I could see her probably just wanting back a few missed opportunities but other than that she had a focused demeanor it seemed to me.
